Lanyards and Lifelines — the Master Connector Shelf
Lanyards and lifelines — which connector arrests your fall?
Short answer: this is the site’s master connector shelf — 90 live listings from 14 vendors led by 3M (19), FallTech (13) and Guardian (11): 53 shock-absorbing and twin-leg lanyards, 30 self-retracting lifelines (cross-listed on the dedicated self-retracting lifelines shelf), and 7 vertical lifelines and rope grabs. Ranked picks live in the lanyard buyer’s guide, and clearance math in the equipment guide.
Editor's pick — FallTech 8260YLE leading-edge dual lanyard
A Class 2/leading-edge-rated twin-leg — the connector for foot-level tie-off over steel and deck edges, where ordinary lanyards are not rated to survive. Read the full listing.VIEW THE LISTING → CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON →

Honest shelf notes
Thirteen listings below currently show no price and read unavailable — they are marked rather than hidden; verify the live listing before planning around any of them. One Guardian listing (01285) titles itself both a positioning and a shock-absorbing lanyard — true work-positioning lanyards are non-shock by design, so read its spec sheet before treating it as either. An earlier version of this page claimed complete MSA horizontal lifeline system kits; no such kits exist in this collection and the claim is gone.
How do you choose between a lanyard and an SRL?
Clearance decides. A shock-absorbing lanyard needs roughly 18–19 feet of clearance below the anchor once deceleration distance, harness stretch and worker height stack up; an overhead-anchored SRL can arrest a fall in as little as a few feet. Measure clearance before choosing the connector, not after. Twin-leg (Y) versions of either keep you tied off 100% of the time while transitioning anchors. Rope grabs on vertical lifelines remain the roofing standard where a 50-foot rope follows the worker up the slope — the full system logic is in the ABCDs of fall protection.
Our methodology
We pulled every live record on this shelf, split the catalog by connector class, marked all thirteen dead listings instead of hiding them, and removed a stocking claim about horizontal-lifeline kits that do not exist here. Fall-protection duties come from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 (construction) and OSHA 1910.140 (general industry), with fall-injury context from NIOSH falls prevention. We do not drop-test equipment and hold no safety certification.
Why trust this page
WC Safety is an independent review site with no products of its own — nothing here is stocked, warehoused or shipped by us. Purchase links go to Amazon and earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you; no manufacturer pays for placement. This page was rebuilt after an audit found its earlier copy described a vendor’s product lines this shelf does not carry — in fall protection, copy that oversells a catalog is a safety defect, so every claim below is tied to the live listings.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a lanyard and a lifeline?
A lanyard is a fixed-length connector (usually 6 ft) between harness and anchor with an energy absorber; a lifeline is a longer line — vertical rope or retractable cable/web — that the connection travels along or retracts into.
When do I need a twin-leg lanyard?
Whenever you move between anchor points at height — one leg stays connected while the other moves, keeping tie-off continuous.
How much clearance does a shock-absorbing lanyard need?
A shock-absorbing lanyard needs roughly 18–19 feet of clearance below the anchor once deceleration distance, harness stretch and worker height stack up; an overhead-anchored SRL can arrest a fall in as little as a few feet. Measure clearance before choosing the connector, not after.
What does leading-edge (Class 2) rated mean?
Rated for tie-off at foot level where the line may load over an edge in a fall — reinforced line and a heavier energy absorber. Standard connectors are not rated for that geometry.
Can I tie a knot in a lanyard to shorten it?
Never — knots cut webbing strength roughly in half and void the rating. Use an adjustable model or a shorter lanyard.
What is a rope grab?
A trailing device that travels along a vertical lifeline and locks under fall loading — the roofing standard paired with a 50-foot rope and a ridge anchor. It must match the rope diameter stamped on it.
Why are some listings marked unavailable?
Thirteen records on this shelf currently carry no price and read unavailable. We mark them in the lists above rather than quietly linking them — check the live listing before specifying one.
Are SRLs listed here the same as on the SRL shelf?
Yes — all self-retracting lifelines are cross-listed on both this master shelf and the dedicated self-retracting lifelines collection. Same records, two homes.
What standard governs shock-absorbing lanyards?
ANSI Z359.13 covers energy-absorbing lanyards; OSHA 1926.502 sets the legal duty, including the 1,800-pound maximum arresting force on the body with a full-body harness.
When must a lanyard be retired?
Immediately after any arrested fall or a deployed absorber, on any competent-person inspection failure, and per the manufacturer’s service-life policy.
Do these connectors include the harness?
No — connectors only. Complete bundles live on the fall protection kits shelf, and anchors on fall protection anchor points.
Which vendors dominate this shelf?
3M (19 listings including DBI-SALA and Protecta), FallTech (13), Guardian (11) and Honeywell (8), with Safewaze, Petzl, Elk River, Werner, MSA, Peakworks, KwikSafety and Tractel filling out the 14.
