FAQ

What is Tractel's Phoenix series?
The Tractel Phoenix series is a range of shock-absorbing lanyards dual-certified to both ANSI Z359.13 and European EN 355. The dual certification makes Phoenix lanyards suitable for multinational contractors whose workers operate on job sites regulated under different standards in North America and Europe.
What is EN 355 and how does it differ from ANSI Z359.13?
EN 355 is the European standard for energy absorbing lanyards, equivalent to the North American ANSI Z359.13. Both limit maximum arrest force to approximately 900 lbf / 6 kN. Key differences: EN 355 is required for CE marking in EU countries; ANSI Z359.13 is required for OSHA compliance in the United States. Dual-certified lanyards like the Tractel C026H meet both.
What is a double-leg shock absorbing lanyard?
A double-leg lanyard has two separate webbing legs and a shared shock absorber. Each leg has its own anchor hook, allowing 100% tie-off. During a fall on either leg, the single shared shock pack deploys to absorb energy. This is the standard twin-leg configuration for continuous work at height.
When is a shock absorbing lanyard required?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502(d)(16) requires that lanyards and vertical lifelines used as part of a personal fall arrest system limit the maximum arrest force on a worker to 1,800 lb. A shock absorbing lanyard achieves this by deploying an energy pack that extends up to 3.5 ft, reducing peak arrest force to 900 lbf or less.
Can a shock absorbing lanyard be reused after a fall?
No. Once a shock absorbing lanyard has arrested a fall, the energy pack has deployed and the lanyard must be removed from service immediately. Both ANSI Z359.13 and OSHA require that any component involved in a fall arrest be retired. Tag or mark the lanyard "RETIRED β€” DO NOT USE" and replace it before returning to work at height.
