3m secure click full face reusable respirator ff-800 β€” what the listing actually specifies

3M Secure Click FF-800 Full Face Respirator β€” Quad-Flow Breathing, Push-Button Seal Check, Integrated Eye Protection

An air-purifying respirator filters air, it does not supply any. Under 29 CFR 1910.134 no air-purifying respirator may be worn in an atmosphere that is IDLH or oxygen-deficient (below 19.5% oxygen). Those conditions require a supplied-air respirator or an SCBA, and no filter or cartridge rating changes that.

The 3M Secure Click FF-800 is the right call if you want combined eye and lung protection in one mask and you’re not locked into a legacy cartridge inventory. It runs on D-series Secure Click cartridges only β€” a proprietary click-engagement system that audibly confirms the cartridge is seated before you walk onto the job. Add the world’s first quad-flow cartridge design (four airflow paths instead of the standard two), a one-touch push-button seal check, and a built-in speaking diaphragm, and this is a materially better mask to live in for a full shift than the older 6000-series bayonet respirators. Available in FF-801 (Small), FF-802 (Medium), FF-803 (Large) β€” D-series cartridges sold separately.

Read the full 3M Secure Click Full Face Reusable Respirator FF-800 Series review β†’

The 3M Secure Click FF-800 is a NIOSH-approved full-face air-purifying respirator rated APF 50, built on the D-series Secure Click platform. Per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, it qualifies as both respiratory and eye protection in one unit at an assigned protection factor of 50 β€” high enough for most industrial chemical and particulate hazards without stepping up to supplied-air.

What Makes the FF-800 Different

  • Quad-flow cartridge system β€” two dual-flow D-series cartridges combine to create four separate airflow paths. Lower breathing resistance than standard two-path bayonet designs, which matters across an 8-hour shift.
  • Push-button seal check β€” one touch on the button conducts a negative-pressure check before you enter the hazard zone. Faster and more consistent than the palm-over-valve method used on older full-face masks.
  • Secure Click connection β€” cartridges click and lock; you hear and feel the engagement. No more second-guessing bayonet alignment with gloves on.
  • Built-in speaking diaphragm β€” communicate with supervisors and crew without breaking seal. This is uncommon on full-face respirators at this price point.
  • Silicone face seal β€” softer and more durable than thermoplastic elastomers; holds shape better over extended wear cycles.
  • Large ANSI Z87.1-2015 polycarbonate lens β€” wide field of view, anti-fog treated. Eliminates the need for separate safety glasses in most chemical environments.
  • Six-strap adjustable harness β€” secure fit without over-tightening; faster donning and doffing than four-strap designs.

Which Size to Order: FF-801, FF-802, or FF-803?

If you’re ordering for yourself and you’re unsure of your size, order the FF-802 Medium β€” it fits the majority of adult faces. Use 3M’s published panel-test sizing guide (face length chin-to-nose-bridge, face width cheekbone-to-cheekbone) to narrow it down, then confirm with an OSHA-required fit test before first use. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 mandates fit testing for all tight-fitting respirators.

Use Cases β€” When the FF-800 Is the Right Pick

Spray painting and automotive refinishing

Pair the FF-800 with the 3M D80921 OV/P100 cartridge: covers solvent vapor and overspray particulate in one D-series unit, no separate safety goggles required.

Lead paint abatement and asbestos-adjacent work

Use the 3M D3091 P100 filter for straight particulate hazards. APF 50 meets the minimum respiratory protection requirement for most lead paint abatement scenarios under OSHA’s Lead in Construction standard (29 CFR 1926.62).

Multi-gas chemical environments

The 3M D80926 multi-gas/vapor P100 gives you the broadest single-cartridge coverage in the lineup β€” OV + acid gas + ammonia + P100 in one unit.

3M Secure Click FF-800 Compatible Cartridges

The FF-800 accepts only D-series Secure Click cartridges. The table below covers the full lineup β€” pick the one that matches your hazard. Not compatible with 3M 6000-series (6001, 60926), 7000-series, or any bayonet-mount cartridge. The same D-series cartridges also fit the 3M HF-800SD β€” one cartridge inventory covers both masks.

SKU Type Order If You’re Doing…
D3091 P100 Particulate Grinding, welding, lead abatement, dust
D3097 P100 + Nuisance OV Relief Dusty work with low-level background solvent odor
D3078 P95 Particulate Oil-based aerosol environments, economy particulate option
D8001 Organic Vapor Solvent degreasing, adhesives, fuel handling β€” no particulate
D8003 OV + Acid Gas Chlorine, HCl, acid gas + solvent co-exposure
D8006 Multi-Gas & Vapor OV + acid gas + ammonia β€” no P100 particulate component
D80921 OV + P100 Combo Spray painting, automotive refinishing β€” most popular pairing
D80923 OV/AG + P100 Combo Isocyanate coatings, acid-catalyzed systems

FF-800 vs. Other 3M Full Face Options

FF-800 vs. 3M 6800/6900/6700 (6000 series): The 6000 series uses the standard bayonet mount and accepts any bayonet cartridge β€” the right choice if your facility already stocks 60926 or 6001 cartridges. The FF-800 is the right choice if you’re starting fresh and want better breathing (quad-flow), faster cartridge changes, and a built-in seal check. Full comparison in the FF-800 review. See all 3M full face options β†’

FF-800 vs. HF-800SD: Choose the FF-800 for integrated eye + respiratory protection (APF 50). Choose the 3M HF-800SD if you wear prescription glasses, need a lighter mask, or if APF 10 is sufficient for your exposure level. Compare all full face respirators β†’

FAQ β€” Buying and Ordering the 3M FF-800

Which size should I order β€” FF-801, FF-802, or FF-803?

Order FF-802 Medium if you’re unsure β€” it covers the majority of adult faces. Measure chin-to-nose-bridge (face length) and cheekbone-to-cheekbone (face width), match to 3M’s panel sizing chart, and confirm with an OSHA-required fit test before first use. When in doubt between two sizes, go up.

Do cartridges come with the FF-800, or do I need to add them?

Cartridges are sold separately. Add at least one pair of D-series cartridges before ordering β€” the mask is non-functional without them. For most industrial work, add the D80921 OV/P100 combo. For dust-only work, the D3091 P100 filter is the lower-cost option.

What cartridge should I order for spray painting?

The D80921 OV/P100 is the standard pairing for spray painting β€” it covers both the solvent vapor and the paint overspray particulate. Step up to the D80923 for isocyanate-based coatings that add an acid gas component.

What cartridge do I need for the widest multi-gas coverage?

The D80926 multi-gas/vapor P100: organic vapor, acid gas, ammonia/methylamine, and P100 particulate in a single D-series unit. Best for multi-chemical process environments where the exposure profile changes across a shift.

Can I use a gas cartridge and a particulate filter at the same time?

No β€” each port takes one D-series accessory. Stack isn’t possible. If you need both, order a combination cartridge like the D80921 or D80926, which integrates both media.

Will these cartridges also fit my 3M 6800?

No. D-series Secure Click cartridges only fit FF-800 and HF-800SD series masks. The 3M 6800 uses bayonet-mount cartridges (6001, 60926, etc.). The two systems are completely incompatible. If your crew already runs 6800s and stocks bayonet cartridges, a switch to the FF-800 means replacing your entire cartridge inventory.

How does the push-button seal check work?

Press the button on the mask before entering a hazard zone. It closes the exhalation valve so you can take a gentle breath in β€” if the mask collapses slightly and holds, the seal is good. If air leaks in around the seal, tighten the harness or adjust the mask position before proceeding. Faster and more repeatable than the old palm-over-valve method.

How do I measure my face to pick a size?

Measure face length (tip of chin to bridge of nose) and face width (widest cheekbone-to-cheekbone). Match both to 3M’s FF-800 panel sizing chart. If you’re borderline between two sizes, size up β€” a slightly large facepiece is easier to seal than one that’s too small. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 requires a fit test before first use regardless.

Can I order multiple sizes for a crew?

Yes. Add each size as a separate line item. A typical crew distribution before fit testing runs roughly 10% Small / 70% Medium / 20% Large β€” adjust after completing individual fit testing under OSHA 1910.134. For orders of 10+ units, contact WC Safety for quantity pricing.

Are D-series cartridges sold in pairs?

Yes β€” combination and gas cartridges (D80921, D80926, D8001, D8003, D8006, D80923) come in pairs; one pair = one complete mask change-out. Particulate filters (D3091, D3078, D3097) also come in pairs. Calculate order quantity as: workers Γ— expected change-outs per period per 3M’s service life guidance for your contaminant.

What replacement parts can I order?

Available replacement parts: inhalation and exhalation valve assemblies, six-strap harness assembly, lens scratch protector, headband ratchet. The silicone facepiece is not a serviceable replacement part β€” if it’s torn or chemically degraded, replace the full mask. Confirm specific part numbers with your 3M distributor or the FF-800 Technical Data Sheet.

Can the lens be replaced without replacing the whole mask?

Yes β€” inner and outer lenses are available as separate replacement components, specific to each size (FF-801/802/803). Confirm the correct part number with your 3M distributor. Lens replacement must follow 3M’s instructions; an improperly seated lens breaks the airtight seal and voids the APF 50 rating.

[{"q":"What protection factor can I plan on?","a":"Ten. OSHA 1910.134 Table 1 assigns an APF of 10 to every filtering facepiece respirator regardless of whether it is rated 95, 99 or 100, so the maximum use concentration is ten times the exposure limit. If you need better than that, the answer is a different class of respirator, not a better disposable."},{"q":"Does it protect against gases, vapours or solvents?","a":"No. A particulate filter does nothing about gases or vapours. Those need a chemical cartridge on a half-mask or full-face facepiece, and a nuisance-level organic-vapour layer on a disposable is a comfort feature, not a rated filter."},{"q":"What does an exhalation valve change, and what does it not?","a":"A valve lowers breathing resistance and heat on exhale, which matters over a full shift. It does NOT raise the protection the wearer receives, and it provides no source control - a valved respirator vents the wearer's unfiltered breath, so where the point is to protect other people or a sterile field the unvalved version is the correct choice. Whether a given model has one is on its own listing."},{"q":"Do I need a fit test before using it?","a":"For occupational use, yes. 29 CFR 1910.134(f) requires a fit test before first use and at least annually after that, on the specific make, model and size that will be worn - a different size is a different respirator as far as the seal is concerned. Separately, Appendix B-1 requires a user seal check on every donning."},{"q":"Does facial hair stop it working?","a":"Yes. Hair crossing the sealing surface prevents a seal, and 1910.134 requires the seal area to be clean-shaven on any tight-fitting respirator. No strap tension compensates for it."},{"q":"How long can one be worn before it is discarded?","a":"Discard it when breathing resistance has risen noticeably, when the facepiece is soiled, damaged or deformed, when the straps have lost tension, or when a seal check can no longer be passed. Straps and the nose foam usually fail before the filter loads up."},{"q":"Can it be washed or reused between shifts?","a":"No. Washing destroys the filter media and the seal. A disposable filtering facepiece is discarded, not cleaned."},{"q":"What is the difference between a respirator, a surgical N95 and a surgical mask?","a":"A NIOSH-approved respirator is tested for filtration and fit and carries an assigned protection factor. A SURGICAL N95 is both NIOSH-approved and FDA-cleared for fluid resistance, so it does both jobs. A plain surgical or cloth mask is neither - no protection factor, no NIOSH approval. The approval is printed on the device; read it there rather than inferring it from the shape."},{"q":"Can it be used in a confined space or an unknown atmosphere?","a":"No. No air-purifying respirator may be used in an IDLH or oxygen-deficient atmosphere under 1910.134. Those conditions require supplied air or an SCBA, and no filter rating changes that."},{"q":"How should it be stored between uses?","a":"Clean, dry and uncrushed, away from contaminated air. A respirator stored loose in a toolbox or a pocket deforms, and a deformed facepiece will not pass a seal check even if the filter is untouched."},{"q":"Where do the specifications on this page come from?","a":"From the manufacturer's published designation for this model, from 42 CFR 84 for the filter class and from OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 for the protection factor. Breathing is wonderful
After suffering multiple breathing problems not wearing a mask from sanding mesquite lumber. My doctor insisted that I wear some sort of protective mask. Even though I was outside during the sanding and routing of said wood. I spent about a month off and on using antibiotics. I love this mask, full faced with a very clear face shield. Comfortable and easy to put on and remove when done. Breathing was very easy I didn’t labor or had to work hard to enjoy clean air. You have a choice to the type of filters that you can use for different applications very versatile. It also came with its own bag for storing β€œsweet”. It feels solid in my hands and on my face. Straps allow for a perfect fit sealing all the way around my face. Allowing me to wear glasses while using is a plus. Pricey but well worth the money.

This thing ROCKS!
I've ben using 3-M filter masks for decades, for spray paint, exotic toxins, etc. always good stuff, but...I recently opted up for a full face mask. Large-ish $$$, yes. Like money is the most important thing in your battle against cancer toxins...?Well, I've been missing out all this time. First use, first day... Wow. I've been stupid.First use, just a small rattlecan paint job. NO fumes. NO need to press mask closer to face. NO fogging. NO restricted breathing. No heat. And the new click in filters: YaY!I know. its only been one day, one use. As noted in another positive review of this product....I dont need to escape this thing. Its comfy, I can see perfectly, (works with glasses), the filters rock. WHY TAKE IT OFF? (My girlfriend might think it a bit odd...)This is next level, and if you go there, you won't go back.PS: trying to figure out the part codes for the tear-off sheets, so as to keep a pristine view on the frontside...3-M can have too much information, and often, a learning curve to figure out what's what...

Excellent
Excellent quality and fit. I purchased the medium size. I use the 3M P100 filtration click-fit that protects me from toxic vapor when melting metals. Easy on/off, comfortable, light weight. I sweat, but the face lens stays clear. If you want a full face piece that resists sweat I suggest getting a positive pressure system.

Fit where the 6800 series failed, Pro Tip for sealing within
I couldn't get the medium 6800 series to seal around my temples and the small was child-sized. Huge leap between them.I did manage to get this sealed and with less force/tightness than I tried with the 6800.Pro Tip: First pull the back headpiece down so it's in position, then treat the mask kinda like a tire. While holding the back support piece in place, pick up the slack on the top straps, don't TIGHTEN. Continue holding the back support piece in place and pick up the slack on the bottom straps. Continue holding the support in place and pick up the slack on the middle straps. This should get the mask largely in position so that you can tighten it effectively. Tighten the top straps, then the bottom then the middle. I personally had to tighten the top straps until my chin was very snugly being pulled into the bottom of the silicon mask seal.Once I had the bottom and top in place and TIGHT i began to tighten the middle straps.I have a dip in at my temples, and masks ALWAYS have trouble sealing there.

Expensive and worth the splurge if you value comfort and safety
I bought this for resin 3D printing. Safety is important to me, but I tend to value ease and comfort over it. When I'm working on something that requires a lot of concentration, the last thing I want is to be hindered by cumbersome safety equipment. I knew I would not use safety goggles due to the hinderance of vision and fogging issue caused by using a separate respirator. Having construction experience, I know how uncomfortable cheap and hot respirators can get. This thing is an absolute dream - the Ferrari of respirators. It's the first time I actually thoroughly enjoy wearing PPE. I don't know if it could get anymore comfortable. Breathing in it feels completely natural (there's a slight rubbery pop after each exhale that I actually really enjoy). It stays cool inside, no trapped breath. It is extremely fast to put on and take off. Lastly, and the part I love the most - the lens is so clear and big that I cannot even tell that I'm wearing anything. Between that and the comfort, it's pure safety without hinderance. If you are a person that needs safety, but knows that you'll rip your equipment off out of frustration, I strongly urge you to splurge on this. You'll enjoy putting it on and kind of look forward to it as crazy as that sounds. 3M hit this one out of the park.

Purchased this mask after an epic fail of the Dràger mask. I thoroughly read the great reviews and was super excited about the purchase. The mask looks amazing and the speak feature is top tier. Unfortunately, the not so great news, at least for me, is that the paint fumes still seeped through. 😩
