Great respirator for those who have trouble achieving a fit.
I ordered my first mask at the behest of 3M's Hawaii Technical Rep, because I had an employee who did not achieve a good fit while wearing a 6000 series respirator or an FF series respirator. Namely, the issue was a poor fit at the temples. When I described the issue to the rep, he was knowledgable and concise.The mask was very pricey to pick up locally (about double the price I saw on Amazon), but it's a great value either way. These masks possess DIN ports, which makes them much more versatile than those masks which only possess bayonet filter holders. You can upgrade these to use a much wider variety of filter cartridges. Similarly, these can even be converted into a PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) by attaching a PowerFlow to the front.In terms of actual usage, I heard great things from the employee regarding the comfort of this mask. User acceptability increased for PPE, which is always a good thing. This mask is just about fully silicone, and as such is pretty snug without being too hard. The field of view is smaller than what you get from the other masks I mentioned above, but this didn't seem to be a problem in normal usage.

This respirator is fantastic! I am of average adult male size, and so the medium fits me perfectly. Remember, the sizing has to do NOT with the size of your face per se, but with the size of your face RELATIVE to the AVERAGE adult face. So, if your face is LARGER than the average adult’s face, then you’d want to order the large respirator. If your face is SMALLER than most adult faces, then you want the small respirator. If your face is AVERAGE compared to other adults, then the MEDIUM respirator is for you.One of the best features about this respirator is the silicone seal. Most other respirators use rubber, not silicone. Silicone is superior. It is supple, meaning it does not hurt my face even when worn for hours at a time, and it provides an airtight seal on my full-bearded face. I realize that some municipal departments frown on beards and respirators, while others require those with beards to use petroleum jelly on their beard to create a seal, but I’m living proof that an airtight seal can be obtained with this respirator, without any petroleum jelly, on a full-bearded face. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if my whiskers actually help to maintain the seal, while shaved stubble would hinder a seal. At any rate, I have no desire to argue about it, because all I know is this respirator works perfectly for me.I should also mention that the “Arsenal GB5080L SCBA Mask Bag” fits this medium respirator, with two P100 filters attached, perfectly. I used this mask while fuming arts and crafts furniture with industrial ammonia. I have a full beard and was worried that there would be leaks for the gas to penetrate but it fits very snugly. The mask did such a good job at filtering the ammonia that I forgot that I was using it to breath in the the tent so I took it off early as I exited the tent. Big mistake! I found out just how strong that chemical was and had to quickly exit the area.

Expired surplus, poor customer service from 'Safety NW'
We purchased four of these, from 'Safety NW', in different sizes, at different times in 2014. In each case, the sticker on the 3M container showing the date of manufacture has been removed. Theses stickers were simply torn off so it is easy to see the missing layer of cardboard where the sticker used to be. On one of the four boxes a very small sticker remained and indicated a date of 1997. Yes, that is 17 years old (we double checked to be sure). The boxes arrived having been clearly opened and then (re)taped closed. It appears that the items may have been used (albeit lightly). The seller, Safety NW, does not return emails to us when asked about these issues. The only positive is that it appears to be a genuine 3M product.Not recommended unless you are looking for expired and somewhat used items.The seller should be disclosing the actual condition of these items (resealed boxes, expired surplus, defacing/removing the manufacturers date of production sticker, etc). Bad show.

What protection factor can I plan on?
Ten. OSHA 1910.134 Table 1 assigns an APF of 10 to every filtering facepiece respirator regardless of whether it is rated 95, 99 or 100, so the maximum use concentration is ten times the exposure limit. If you need better than that, the answer is a different class of respirator, not a better disposable.
Does it protect against gases, vapours or solvents?
No. A particulate filter does nothing about gases or vapours. Those need a chemical cartridge on a half-mask or full-face facepiece, and a nuisance-level organic-vapour layer on a disposable is a comfort feature, not a rated filter.
