It is a gas/vapor cartridge only — there is no particulate filter inside, and it does not protect against organic solvent vapor or ammonia. If dust or mist is also in the air, pair it with a 3M 5N11 or 5P71 prefilter behind a 501 retainer, or move to the all-in-one 3M 60922 (acid gas + P100). If organic solvent vapor is also part of the job, the combination 3M 6003 covers both classes, and the 3M 60923 adds P100 to that same mix.

Where it fits

Identify the contaminant before choosing any cartridge — ideally through an industrial-hygiene assessment. Reach for the 6002 in water and wastewater chlorination and leak checks; pool-chemical rooms and bleaching processes releasing chlorine and sulfur dioxide vapor; and acid handling and transfer where HCl and HF vapor are the confirmed hazard. For particulate-only work, use a P100 filter instead; for acid gas with dust present, the 3M 60922 is the lower-hassle option. If organic solvents are part of the same task, step to a combination cartridge from the combination cartridges collection.
