EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.6/5WC Safety Review β€” Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded reusable flanged hearing protection at NRR 26 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded reusable flanged plug at NRR 26 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit Corded Earplugs Overview

The Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit Corded Earplugs are corded reusable flanged ear plugs from Peltor, rated NRR 26 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit belong to the corded ear plugs range. They are reusable and washable across many shifts; for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 26 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 26 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~85 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~90 dBA after derating Add earmuffs
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~80 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit?

Buy them if you want reusable flanged hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 26 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare Next Tri-Flange, Gel, Ear Seals. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit?

The Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit are rated NRR 26 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit reusable or single-use?

They are reusable and washable across many shifts.

How do I insert the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit?

To fit them, push the pre-molded flanges gently into the canal until sealed; no rolling needed. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit?

Yes β€” rinse the flanges with mild soap and water, dry, and reuse.

Are the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit?

They are pre-sized flanges (check sizing if offered).

What noise levels suit NRR 26?

NRR 26 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 26 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic Peltor hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Fit in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

I can't hear you...
Great product.I bought this for 2 reasons:1. To reduce noise during air travel.2. For hearing protection while shooting. It succeeds in both, and is a big improvement over the various solutions I had been using. While flying, I like noise protection to reduce the ambient airplane noise (not to mention the noise of chatty passengers) while I am reading. I fly a lot, but do not like using any type of electronic noise reduction for many reasons, including the restriction on using electronic devices below 10,000 feet. My solution up to this point was an expensive set of Israeli-made SilentEar earplugs that were supposedly really good, but just would not stay put in my ears despite trying several sizes. This product fits my ears *perfectly* and results in a quieter environment, so will be coming with me on all future flights. While shooting, I have been using various brands of ear muff style hearing protection, including ones from Stanley, Beretta and Browning. Besides being bulky, nearby gunfire still sounded LOUD. But with these, the sound is now tolerable, and I don't have to fill up 1/4 of my range bag with big bulky ear muffs. You get 3 sets in this package, which is nice and very good value. The only cautionary note I will add is that in each set I got, the yellow cord connecting the two ears was tied in such a tight knot that I almost could not get it apart. For a moment I actually considered *cutting* the knot, thinking that it was not part of the cord, but quickly realized that doing so would cut the cord between the 2 earpieces. You can untie the little knots - if you have patience. [Update: For some time now, they have come tied with knots that are much easier to untie, unlike the earlier version, thus no longer an issue.]I like them! Sorry, what was that you said???UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER:It puzzles me why a few people have had such trouble with these and think they don't work. Unlike what a few others have reported, these work really well for me at the range, and in fact when I have tried wearing ear muffs over the top of these I really can't detect any further reduction in sound. For anyone who has had trouble or think they don't work, be sure that you have inserted them properly and completely. As the instructions indicate, you have to pull out on your ear lobe with one hand while inserting them into your ear with the other - you can't just push them in with one hand because they won't go in far enough to fully seal the ear canal. When properly inserted, you *will* notice the difference - a feeling that I can best describe as being "cut off" from the world. If you don't feel that, they are not inserted properly and you will NOT get anywhere close to the level of sound reduction that these can provide.Anyway, these work just great for me, and I am about to order more.UPDATE, several years later:I keep buying more, because I am concerned about my hearing, and these help a lot. If you don't do anything around noise, you won't need these, but most of us do.My latest use, which perhaps negates my original title a bit, is to wear while out on my side-by-side ATV, which is quite noisy. I keep several pairs of these in the vehicle, to wear myself, for my spouse to wear, and for guests. While they greatly suppress the noise of the ATV, my spouse and I actually *can* easily hear each other while wearing these. Seems perfect.I've seen a lot of silly comments by others here, who say that:* They are uncomfortable. True, you won't want to wear them all day. That would be true of any hearing protection.* The state of California says that they are "known to be carcinogenic." Perhaps true if you eat them, but half of the things I have purchased lately have come with such a warning. I live in the real world, not California.* They don't work. Well, they do for most people - especially if you insert them correctly.

I recomend this
I finally took them to the range the other day and was really happy with the results. I love how they are attached so it's harder to lose one, my issue is they only send one bag to hold them when there could be 3 different people using them. Not sure about any of you but I don't want my ear pieces covered in other people's ear wax. Good thing I'm artsy cause I'll just make another 2 bags but this time it will be slightly bigger and with a zipper; no slightly useless pull string and crap fabric. The ear pieces themselves were amazing. They cut out sounds perfectly. My rifle is very loud but with these in my ears, it was as if I had ear muffs on. I couldn't hear my boyfriend too much with them in so I kept taking one out and putting it back in. My issue is I'm pretty sure one ear is shaped differently or something cause I had an issue inserting in one ear but not the other. Probably a personal issue but it's ok cause once they we're in, no falling out, no noise leaking in, and they were fairly comfortable. The issue I see people having is you need to make sure you really put it in your ear. If you don't you will hear everything. Trust me these work if you use them correctly. I had forgotten to put one back in, fired and realized my mistake instantly cause one ear was ringing while the other was not. All and all they worked better than expected and if I lose one, cause they only come in a tiny stupid bag, I'll definitely order it again.Side note: I would add a picture cause I like doing that for other people but the picture it gives is what it is.

I prefer these over the foam plugs
Pros:1. Comfortable fit without being itchy2. Cord is lightweight, durable3. Works as expected to cut down the intensity of noiseCons:1. The cord transmits rubbing noises of the cord to the earplugI use these ear plugs mostly when I'm in the garage running my woodworking tools and/or the shopvac, but also at the range. Like every other ear plug or earmuffs I've ever tried, this isn't "soundproof" as in you won't hear anything, but it just cuts down the intensity of the sound. Putting them on is the equivalent of being able to just turn down the noise and everything being muffled. These triple flanged earplugs have a 26 dB NRR. These plus ear muffs at the range equals excellent hearing protection. And unlike the foam plugs, which inevitably start to itch my ear canal, I haven't noticed that kind of irritation with these, even after extended wear in the shop or the range. I also haven't noticed any fatigue either. Ear canals aren't sore or irritated afterwards. The cord is nice because when I'm in the shop, I just take out the plugs and let them dangle around my neck and know exactly where they are. Unlike taking off the ear muffs and trying to find a clean place for them. It's also easy to store them by hanging by the cord on a hook. And the soft rubbery material is pretty easy to wipe off and keep clean between uses. The only down side would be if you're using these plugs for silence, such as for studying, the cord will transmit any sound from rubbing against your shirt, etc, and would probably drive you crazy in a quiet environment. In the shop or the range, I don't notice it so much due to all the racket.

My Go-To for the Gun Range!
As someone who spends time at the gun range, reliable hearing protection is non-negotiable. I recently picked up the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Reusable Ear Plugs, and they have quickly become my absolute favorite for dependable noise reduction. What immediately impressed me is how well these ear plugs stay in my ears. The tri-flange design creates a secure and comfortable seal, even during extended shooting sessions. I've tried other earplugs that constantly shift or fall out, but these remain firmly in place, giving me peace of mind that my hearing is protected. Most importantly, they do an incredible job of blocking out super loud noises. The sharp crack of gunfire is significantly muffled, allowing me to focus on my shooting without discomfort or concern for my hearing.Being reusable is a huge plus, making them an economical and environmentally friendly choice. They're easy to clean and maintain, ready for my next trip to the range. If you're looking for hearing protection that's dependable, stays put, and effectively blocks out extreme noise for activities like shooting, the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Reusable Ear Plugs are an excellent investment. Highly recommended for range enthusiasts!

Having trouble getting these to work and cancel out the noise at the gym
I bought these to wear at the gym because I get so tired of people talking loudly on their phone next to me as I use the treadmill or stationary bike. However, maybe it is me that I don't know how to insert them but they really don't seem to be helping cut the conversation going on next to me. They are very nice -- nicely made and it is really cool they come with a little black pouch which makes it easy to carry them in my gym bag. I'm going to continue working with them to try to figure out how to use them effectively; it is very possible this is "user error".

Good Hearing Protectors
Great at lowering the volume of everything. They aren't perfect, as they do muffle the sound a lot, but for the price they are nice. They are quite fun because they glow in the dark, but are not very strong because only after a couple weeks of use, one of the strings detached from the actual plug. Overall, great though.
