EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5WC Safety Review β€” Champion Gel Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 26 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded single-use foam plug at NRR 26 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

Champion Gel Corded Earplugs Overview

The Champion Gel Corded Earplugs are corded single-use foam ear plugs from Champion, rated NRR 26 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Champion Gel belong to the corded ear plugs range. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 26 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 26 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~85 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~90 dBA after derating Add earmuffs
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~80 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Champion Gel?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 26 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare Ear Seals, Reusable, CEP001-R. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Champion Gel reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Helpful Hearing-Protection Guides

Champion Gel Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the Champion Gel?

The Champion Gel are rated NRR 26 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the Champion Gel corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the Champion Gel reusable or single-use?

They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy).

How do I insert the Champion Gel?

To fit them, roll them down between your fingers, pull the ear up and back, and insert β€” they expand to seal the canal. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the Champion Gel?

They are single-use foam β€” replace rather than wash once soiled or no longer expanding.

Are the Champion Gel metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the Champion Gel?

They are one size fits most.

What noise levels suit NRR 26?

NRR 26 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the Champion Gel NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 26 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic Champion hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the Champion Gel in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

Better than band ear plugs, does not hurt after extended use
Best earplugs I have found yet. I use them on my tractor and with the gas blower. They stay in and work as good as my huge hearing protectors from the range I was using. Haven't tried on the range yet but will probably be good. I have found all the band type plugs hurt my ears after having in for a while - not these.

Work well
I like these a lot. They work well and keep the noise down a lot when I am shooting. I put them in and forget about them. They stay in really well. These are more convenient than the ear muff style, work just as well and work a lot better with my shooting glasses. I also feel less bulky when I wear these, which to me is a plus. The cord is a nice convenience. If I step out of the shooting area to the lobby or outside I can easily pop them out and let them hang around my neck where they are ready to be put back in. So much better than having to worry about where to keep them. The case it comes with is also nice. It provides a clean place to store them between range visits.

Just what you need at the range.
Can't ask for more! These are great for the range. Comfortable enough for extended use and the cord allows you to drape them around your neck when not in use. Now, these are not going to block as much sound as the big over-ear protection options, but it blocks plenty to make firing my .556 AR at the indoor range comfortable and those big ear muffs get in the way when trying to look down those iron sites. Durable, washable, I've got nothing bad to say about them. You won't be dissappointed!

Not as described.
I've ordered this product 3 times and each time I have received foam instead of the 'Soft silicone gel for a comfortable fit' product described. The photo shows it to be gel, however it is not. The foam product is still a fine product and for that reason I give it at least a star, but it is not as described.Note: I have used the actual silicone product and they are my favorite earplugs. If you can actually find those, I do recommend those with 5 stars.

Comfortable, just remember to twist them in!
They work ok; They dont reduce noise as well as my foam earplugs. they’re definitely much more comfortable, however.Edit: ok, I guess i never realized that you kinda need to twist these in to get a good seal, instead of just inserting like normal ear plugs! They actually seem to work BETTER than my foam plugs!

Sanity saver
Little noises really bother me and I can discretely have these ear plugs around my neck and just put them in when things start getting on my nerves. It's been much nicer than getting annoyed with people and things going on around my house. I can put them in just far enough to muffle the noise, but still hear what I need to hear. I highly recommend this for anyone who has the same problem with sounds that I do.

Great Ear Protection!!!
I have used several different in ear things when I go out shooting. The Champion Gel were by far the best. They fit good and werent uncomfortable after 2 hrs in my ear. The only complient I have is I wish the cord connecting them was abit longer. In fact I will be ordering more of these in the future so I always have a backup pair.

Nice comfortable ear plugs for the range
I really like these ear plugs for the range. They are more comfortable than the two other brands I have so I can wear them all day at the range under electronic ear protectors without any irritation. When there is a cease fire for a target change I can take off the electronic muffs for the change and keep these in, so if I don't get the electronic muffs on when shooting re-commences, there is still protection. I wouldn't wear just these alone but in combination with good electronic muffs it's a good combo. The price is right too.

Good for what they are.
These are a good option for the range or out in the field. They don't block out all noises which is nice and they seem to stay put in your ears just fine with no real movement. At this point, I think I should have gone cordless as the cord gets in the way or caught on my collar at times.
