Honeywell North 75852P100L β Mercury Vapor + Chlorine + P100 Combination Cartridge, NIOSH 42 CFR 84
The Honeywell North 75852P100L is the only Honeywell North cartridge with NIOSH 42 CFR 84 mercury vapor approval β providing simultaneous protection against mercury vapor, chlorine gas (Clβ), and 99.97% P100 particulate filtration, sold as a pair. In mercury-exposure environments, the 75852P100L is not optional β no other North cartridge covers elemental mercury vapor. For environments where mercury vapor is not documented, the 75SCP100L provides the broadest general-purpose multi-contaminant coverage. Compatible with all North 7700, 5500, 5400, and 7600 series facepieces.

Key Features
- The only North mercury cartridge: The 75852P100L is irreplaceable for mercury vapor applications β no other cartridge in the Honeywell North line has NIOSH mercury vapor approval. Mercury sorbent (typically iodine-impregnated activated carbon) is specifically required for elemental Hg capture and is not present in standard OV cartridges
- Chlorine coverage included: Clβ is covered simultaneously with mercury β appropriate for chlor-alkali operations where both elemental mercury and chlorine are process hazards in the same environment
- Integrated P100: 99.97% particle filtration covers mercury oxide particulate, catalyst dust, and other aerosols generated alongside vapor-phase mercury in industrial processes
- Sold as a pair: Two cartridges per package for both cartridge positions on a North facepiece
Applications β When to Use the 75852P100L
The 75852P100L is required in any environment where elemental mercury vapor exposure is documented:
- Chlor-alkali manufacturing: Mercury-cell chlor-alkali plants generate both Hgβ° vapor and Clβ β both covered by this cartridge's NIOSH approval
- Fluorescent lamp and mercury-vapor lamp recycling: OSHA 1910.1000 Table Z-2 mercury PEL is 0.1 mg/mΒ³ ceiling β recycling operations that shatter lamps release Hg vapor; P100 covers mercury-containing particulate from lamp phosphor
- Laboratory environments: Research labs using liquid mercury, mercury compounds, or mercury thermometers β breakage and cleanup require mercury-specific air purification
- Dental and healthcare: Dental amalgam preparation and finishing in facilities that have not fully transitioned to mercury-free materials
- Mining (mercury ore): Cinnabar ore processing and artisanal gold mining operations using mercury amalgamation
- HVAC and instrument repair: Servicing mercury-containing switches, relays, thermostats, and gauges in industrial equipment
Important: Standard OV cartridges (including 7581P100L, 7583P100L, 75SCP100L) do NOT protect against elemental mercury vapor β the sorbent chemistry is different. Only the 75852P100L is NIOSH-approved for Hgβ°.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a special cartridge for mercury?
Elemental mercury vapor (Hgβ°) is not captured by standard activated carbon OV sorbents. Mercury vapor requires a chemically impregnated sorbent (typically iodine-impregnated activated carbon) that reacts specifically with Hgβ°. Standard OV cartridges will allow mercury vapor to pass through. The 75852P100L contains the correct sorbent chemistry and is the only North cartridge NIOSH-approved for mercury vapor.
Does the 75852P100L also cover organic vapors?
The 75852P100L's NIOSH approval covers mercury vapor, chlorine, and P100. It does not carry a separate OV NIOSH approval. If organic vapor co-exposure is documented alongside mercury, consult your industrial hygienist β the correct solution may be an SCBA or supplied-air respirator, since combining mercury sorbent with full OV sorbent in a half-mask creates an extremely high-breathing-resistance cartridge that may exceed safe inhalation resistance limits.
Which respirators does the 75852P100L fit?
All North bayonet facepieces: North 770030 series (S/M/L), North 550030 series (S/M/L), North 54001 and 54001S, North 760008A and 760008AS.
What is the OSHA PEL for mercury?
OSHA 1910.1000 Table Z-2 ceiling limit: 0.1 mg/mΒ³ for elemental mercury vapor. NIOSH REL: 0.05 mg/mΒ³ (TWA). ACGIH TLV: 0.025 mg/mΒ³ (TWA). At APF 10 (half-mask), the 75852P100L is appropriate for exposures up to 1.0 mg/mΒ³. At APF 50 (full-face), up to 5.0 mg/mΒ³. Above IDLH (10 mg/mΒ³), supplied-air is required.
Can the 75852P100L be used for mercury spill cleanup?
Yes β for small-scale spills where Hg vapor concentrations are below IDLH and within the APF of the selected facepiece. For large spills with high ambient vapor concentrations, SCBA is appropriate. In any case, quantitative air monitoring should be performed before selecting the appropriate respiratory protection level.
How do I know when the mercury sorbent is exhausted?
Mercury vapor has essentially no sensory warning at hazardous concentrations β do not rely on odor. OSHA 1910.134(d)(3)(iii) requires a written change schedule based on exposure data and sorbent capacity. Mercury sorbent service life varies with temperature and Hg concentration β a qualified industrial hygienist must establish the change frequency.
Is fit testing required?
Yes β OSHA 1910.134(f)(2). Annual fit testing for the facepiece before operational use.
What APF does the 75852P100L provide on a full-face respirator?
APF 50 on the North 54001 or North 760008A. For mercury vapor environments where concentrations approach or exceed 1.0 mg/mΒ³ (10Γ OSHA PEL), upgrade to a full-face respirator for APF 50 coverage.
