EDITORIAL REVIEW β€” GVS Elipse SPR483 Multigas Replacement Filters, S/M and M/L

Assessed on the standards the product is actually certified to and on how the format fits a working shift, by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor.

The GVS SPR483 is a NIOSH-approved multigas replacement filter for the GVS Elipse low-profile half-face respirator, providing chemical vapor protection against multiple gas classes in GVS's Elipse Integra filter format β€” without a P100 particulate layer. The SPR483 fits both Small/Medium and Medium/Large Elipse facepiece sizes at per pair β€” the lowest-cost option in the Elipse multigas filter lineup. For the complete filter and cartridge selection, see the respirator filters and cartridges collection.

gvs elipse spr483 multigas replacement filters β€” what the listing actually specifies

Construction and Filtration

An air-purifying respirator filters air, it does not supply any. Under 29 CFR 1910.134 no air-purifying respirator may be worn in an atmosphere that is IDLH or oxygen-deficient (below 19.5% oxygen). Those conditions require a supplied-air respirator or an SCBA, and no filter or cartridge rating changes that.

The SPR483 uses activated carbon sorbent media formulated for multigas chemical vapor protection β€” covering a broader range of hazard classes than standard single-category OV or OV/AG cartridges. The specific compounds covered and their concentration limits are defined in GVS's NIOSH approval documentation; verify this against the site chemical inventory before deployment. The SPR483 does not include a P100 particulate filter layer; it provides chemical vapor protection only and does not filter particulate aerosols. For Elipse users requiring simultaneous P100 particulate protection alongside multigas coverage, the SPR486 (P100 + Multigas) is the correct specification. The filter body maintains the Elipse's low-profile geometry and fits both S/M and M/L Elipse facepiece sizes.

Compliance and Ratings

The GVS SPR483 is NIOSH-approved under 42 CFR Part 84 for the chemical hazard classes within its multigas approval scope. The SPR483 contains no P100 or particulate filter media and provides no protection against dust, mist, or aerosols at any particulate efficiency class. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 service life documentation requirements apply β€” change-out schedules must be established from GVS's published service life data for the specific compounds present. Fit testing, medical evaluation, and a written respiratory protection program are required before Elipse deployment. IN_STOCK_SCARCE at time of import β€” verify current availability before ordering for scheduled operations.

Performance Assessment

The SPR483 occupies the chemical-vapor-only position in the Elipse Integra multigas lineup. The absence of P100 media reduces breathing resistance relative to the SPR486, relevant in high-exertion work where chemical vapor is the sole hazard and particulate is absent or controlled by engineering means. At, the per pair savings versus the SPR486 is warranted only when particulate exposure is genuinely absent β€” specifying the SPR483 in a particulate environment omits required filtration. For OV-specific applications, the SPR468 (OV/P100, includes P100 at a comparable price. The IN_STOCK_SCARCE status warrants supply continuity planning for programs depending on SPR483 specifically.

Strengths

Limitations

  • IN_STOCK_SCARCE β€” limited availability at time of import; verify stock before ordering
  • No particulate filtration β€” chemical vapor only; environments with concurrent particulate hazard require the SPR486 (P100 + Multigas)
  • Compound coverage verification required β€” confirm specific compounds and concentration limits in GVS's NIOSH approval documentation before deployment
  • Elipse platform only β€” not interchangeable with 3M Secure Click or Gerson respirator platforms
  • Sold per pair β€” one purchase = two filter cartridges for one respirator

Recommended Use Cases

The GVS Elipse SPR483 is appropriate for Elipse users in environments where multigas chemical vapor protection is required and no concurrent particulate aerosol exposure is present: chemical processing environments with mixed gas-phase hazards where engineering controls manage particulate; laboratory and confined-space entry with multigas chemical vapor in the absence of dust or aerosol generation. When particulate is co-present with the multigas hazard, the SPR486 is the required specification. For OV/AG/P100 on the Elipse platform, see the SPR474. For the complete filter selection, see the respirator filters and cartridges collection.

Verdict

The GVS Elipse SPR483 delivers multigas chemical vapor protection for the Elipse platform at per pair β€” no particulate filtration, lowest cost in the Elipse multigas lineup. Specify where multigas chemical vapor is the confirmed sole hazard and no particulate co-exposure exists. For P100 alongside multigas, see the SPR486. IN_STOCK_SCARCE β€” verify availability. For the complete filter and cartridge selection, see the respirator filters and cartridges collection.

What separates the models in this category is set out in 3m 2091 vs 2097 filter, 3m 2091 vs honeywell north 7580p100, 3m 6000 vs 6500 respirator.

Easy breathing
Not cheap, but you get filters and new check valves. Read the instructions closely and examine the new filters before trying to remove the old filters from the respirator. Relatively easy once you figure how to pull the strap tab from the filter.

best half face respirator system going
even better than the half faced respirator is having the filters come in regularly so you won’t be tempted to use them past their prime. I have tried MSA filters, 3M, and others and consistently I find the GVS the most durable and comfortable.

They work but they are NOT a drop in fit for the GVS P100 respirator.
They work but they are NOT a drop in fit for the GVS P100 respirator. The respirator that includes p100 filters only uses a strap system that is integral to the filters, and the inhale valves are glued in place. You'll need to carefully remove the inhale valves (the OV cartridges have them built in) and cut up the strap mounts to get it to work, and it probably doesn't actually meet standards. GVS wants you to buy a completely separate respirator even though they use the same body.

Customer service could be a LOT better!!!
I bought one of these April 10, 2021 I liked it because it fit my face and kept most if not all odors from me.This is VERY important because I am very allergic to all smell fragrances and odors. When I go out I wear one of these, IT also gave me plenty of air flow. I bought numerous replacements filters. One day the strap broke ok it was older so I went to buy a new on on amazon. The company no longer sold them on Amazon.I emailed the company Feb 8th and asked if I could buy new straps for this mask. They replied Feb 9th and said if they would send me ne straps free of charge.I thought cool, I sent the picture on March 9th because life happens. and waited and waited, no reply. I sent another email March 21st no reply.I really don't care that they don't want to send a new strap. They should not make promise they do not intend to keep'The other problem is finding a new mask and degassing it. ALL new mask have an odor, ironic I know.
