- Cut level for the actual hazard
- ANSI/ISEA 105 cut levels run A1 to A9. Handling cardboard and pallets is a different problem from handling sheet metal or glass.
- Grip coating and conditions
- Coatings behave differently wet, oily and dry. A coating that grips dry cardboard can be useless on oily steel.
- Impact protection
- Back-of-hand impact protection is separately rated under ANSI/ISEA 138. It addresses crushing and pinch injuries that cut resistance does nothing for.
- Dexterity trade-off
- Higher cut levels usually mean thicker, stiffer gloves. A glove too clumsy for the task gets removed, which protects nobody.
