EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5WC Safety Review β€” SAS EP6 Large Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 24 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded single-use foam plug at NRR 24 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

SAS EP6 Large Corded Earplugs Overview

The SAS EP6 Large Corded Earplugs are corded single-use foam ear plugs from SAS, rated NRR 24 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The SAS EP6 Large belong to the corded ear plugs range. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 24 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 24 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~87 dBA after derating Add earmuffs
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~92 dBA after derating Add earmuffs
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~82 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the SAS EP6 Large?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 24 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare EP6 Medium, 6101-B, Whisper+. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The SAS EP6 Large reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Helpful Hearing-Protection Guides

SAS EP6 Large Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the SAS EP6 Large?

The SAS EP6 Large are rated NRR 24 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the SAS EP6 Large corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the SAS EP6 Large reusable or single-use?

They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy).

How do I insert the SAS EP6 Large?

To fit them, roll them down between your fingers, pull the ear up and back, and insert β€” they expand to seal the canal. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the SAS EP6 Large?

They are single-use foam β€” replace rather than wash once soiled or no longer expanding.

Are the SAS EP6 Large metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the SAS EP6 Large?

They are one size fits most.

What noise levels suit NRR 24?

NRR 24 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the SAS EP6 Large NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 24 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic SAS hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the SAS EP6 Large in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

Excellent hearing protection for shooting sports.
I wear these for shooting at an indoor range. they do an excellent job. i recommend that they are worn under ear muffs if compensated or high caliber guns are near. outside they work well without additional protection as long as they are seated correctly.

These work great for me; I shoot frequently. Perfect when carrying a concealed weapon. Fortunately I got the correct size to begin with and like the way that they stay in place. There are two ways to wear this product: one for at the range and one for if you are carrying a concealed weapon. Recommended.

I don't recommend them mainly due to the pain they cause me. I might just have wired ears though....
These are good at blocking wind and pipe noise on motorcycle rides and at the gun range, but the hard plastic piece tends to rub my ear causing pain that lasts a few hours after a long ride. Once these wear out I'll use the foam ones. Also, these are not meant to last for a long time. There was something in the packaging that provides a time frame for use. Something like X total hours before you need to replace them. I can't find that on their website or on Amazon but if you're expecting them to last a year or two you might want to double check with the company before ordering them. How long they should last is totally subjective so I'm not saying the time frame they provide is good or bad. It's much less than I expected, but maybe my expectations were unrealistic. Also, regarding the discomfort I feel. Could just be my ears. At this price it may be worth it for you to give them a try. If you have no discomfort you'll probably love them.
