This is my second box. I bought a box of these 10yrs ago and they just ran out.I work with steel. There is not much that's noisier than hammering steel or running an angle grinder. I am *religious* about using earplugs even for vacuuming. I put these in the moment I walk into the shop.I am 61yrs old and I have no significant hearing loss at all! Many of my buddies are seriously deaf by now. No I am not gloating. I am telling you USE HEARING PROTECTION ALWAYS when working with tools. Wear them on airplane flights, wear them when ever you use a hammer, wear them when vacuuming, wear them when your relatives come to visit. Watching my friends give up their musical instruments, unable to follow a conversation in a noisy restaurant and unable to talk to the their grandkids, unable to follow their favorite TV shows or movies, just makes me want to cry. Hearing loss is incremental and irreversible. Hearing aids are not like glasses. They cost thousands of dollars and they suck. Try talking to someone who's hearing is severely damaged and you will understand how isolated and lonely this injury will make you.I toss these in the laundry at the end of the day. They can be reused forever. The only reason I have to buy a new box is that over the years I lose them.Learn to insert them properly. Poorly inserted plugs are worthless. Roll them up tight, reach over the top of your head and pull on the top of your ear. With just the right amount of tugging the ear canal will straighten out enough to slip them in deep where they will expand and fill the ear canal. Yes I have occaisonaly got one stuck so deep I had to use tweezers to pull it out. That's nothing compared to hearing damage.These come in different sizes. Don't buy a 200 pack until you know what fits. Some people will need different sizes for each ear.Please guys (the guys are the worst - it's a testosterone thing) take care of yourselves.

Great earplugs for a very nice price
I sleep next to a extremely noisy snorer -- she snores so loud it can be heard loud and clear in every room of the otherwise quiet house. So one can imagine what it must be like to try to fall asleep mere inches away. I bought these earplugs, and have no regrets. instead of stuffing my head into a pillow every night to try to soften the noise I pop these in.I absolutely love these earplugs -- they're definitely a lifesaver, but there are a few things to consider about these:1. The noise reduction is great but not perfect. These are rated at about 33db, meaning that, if inserted properly, they should reduce any incoming noise by 33 decibels. Loud snoring at such close proximity can register well over 70 decibels, which, for a frame of reference, is the level of sound a vacuum cleaner makes. Do the math. any earplugs (not just these) don't eliminate all sound; they just reduce it. Wearing earplugs DOES make a huge difference, however.2. Dare I say there's a learning curve to these earplugs? If you don't have experience wearing earplugs, then it might take several days of use to get comfortable inserting these into your ear. Not having the earplugs as far in as they should be can reduce their effectiveness and make the whole point of wearing earplugs pointless. Be warned, though: you ARE inserting a foreign object into your ear, so take caution when using these. shoving it in too far can damage your eardrum. I find that they work best when there's only a few millimeters sticking out (just enough to grab the earplug to remove it), seeing as the bell-shaped end is there to improve the seal. When removing these, make sure to also twist as you slowly remove the earplugs. This is because there is an airtight seal when they're all the way in and the seal needs to be broken gradually. I popped my ears a few times by making the mistake of pulling them straight out and too quickly.3. From my experience, each pair's only good for one or two uses. I have naturally oily skin and waxy ears, so needless to say after sever hours of sleeping the earplugs tend to come out with a little...residue. I've found that the foam these are made of are also near-impossible to clean as well. I've also noticed that they never seem to be quite as effective after the first use, presumably from the foam be permanently misshapen from being in the ear for a prolonged period of time. At the time of writing this review, the current price of a box of 200 earplugs just over 20 dollars, so they come to about a dime a pair. At this price I'd rather have a fresh pair each night anyway.All things considered, these earplugs are a great deal. have some very small shortcomings, which are inherent in basically any foam earplugs, so I suppose the point is irrelevant. I've still given this a five-star rating because for 20 bucks, I'm still using up earplugs from the box I bought last year, and sleeping soundly because of it. I'd recommend these to anyone in a heartbeat.

Excellent earplugs, better than 3m Tekk, better than a good pair of earmuffs
These are rated only 1 DB in noise reduction better than 3m Tekk.I've given these two decent tests -- Mowing my lawn (takes about an hour)- Chainsawing (much louder) - for about 3 hoursThese are rated at 33 NRR, the 3m tek's are rated at 32 NRR. The different is fairly trivial.I've have to say - these seem to block out noise decently better than the 3m Tekk's, not sure what it is, but things are just that much quieter. As far as the fit and comfort go - I can't say I have any complaints. I think the comfort is about the same as the Tekk's, but the fit in my ear canal seems better ( better shape I'd say ).After several hours of chainsawing, the wear did not seem to hurt my ear canals or anything. I like the better protection than what I had before. I'll be buying these again.-----UPDATE: After further use of these, I have a quick update.I bought a pair of 3M Peltor X-Series Over-the-Head Earmuffs, NRR 27 dB to wear in conjunction with the earplugs for further noise reduction.This gives me another way to compare. Compared to these (very good) earmuffs, the noise reduction is still noticeably superior on the Howard Leight earplugs (you should probably expect it since the NRR of earmuffs is 27). Just another perspective to compare with. I feel it is not uncommon for manufacturers to give numbers which don't really stack up to reality, so this is why I make this comparison.

Awesome ear plugs
I ordered a 200-ct case of these ear plugs, and they work perfectly and are nice and thick. Apparently I have freakishly large ear canals, and so most other earplugs won't seal my ears properly.Hearos work well for me if I put them in backwards, with the fat end next to my eardrum, but they still don't work any better than the Howard Leights do and Hearos are almost three times as expensive. The Howard Leights block out sound as well or better than any other earplug I've tried, and I've tried at least five different brands before.These earplugs work so well that I actually got depressed for the first couple of days I used them. It was so quiet that I started to think what a bummer it must be for someone to be hearing-impaired, and not be able to simply remove the earplugs and hear better the way I can. But I got over that and now I wear them as much as I can, and enjoy the quiet.When someone is speaking to me with my ear plugs in, I have to be looking directly at them in order to understand what they're saying. The loud, diesel-engined public transit buses that pass by me now only give a little "whoosh". And I have to be more careful when crossing the street, to make sure there aren't speeding cars whipping around the curves waiting to clobber me. I usually can't hear them now until they are within sight, so I just quickly look both ways and then RUN across the street. Homeless guys ask me for change, and I just hear them mumble, point to my ears, and keep walking.These earplugs, like all earplugs, are mostly designed to block out mid-range sounds such as voices. Really low-pitched sounds, which vibrate through the body, can't be blocked out very effectively. This is no reflection on the quality of the earplugs. Really high-pitched sounds, such as police sirens, also come through fairly clearly. This is good since I like to drive with my earplugs in and I don't have to worry about getting T-boned by a police car or fire truck.I plan to use these earplugs as much as I can for the rest of my life, and these plugs are cheap enough for me to do that even if I break out a new pair every day. (They can be reused, but there is some risk of ear infection when they get dirty, and they tend to lose flexibility after just a few uses. Then they can't create as effective of a seal in the ear.)The only downside I can see is if someone had really small ear canals, in which case the plugs would probably cause too much pressure within the ear canals. As I said before, I don't have to worry about that. But if you do have that problem, Mack's earplugs would probably work better since they are fairly skinny.Another minor gripe is that the earplugs stick way out of my ears after I insert them, so at first they would get knocked out when I rolled my head while sleeping. I fixed this problem by simply cutting off the back 1/3 of the plug with a pair of scissors, so the ends of the plugs don't stick out past my ears. I can toss and turn all night, and the plugs stay sealed in my ears.These plugs, to me, would be worth the money if they cost five times as much. I would pay the extra if I had to, but luckily I don't have to since the Howard Leights are bargain-priced. Each pair even comes in an individual bag, so I can give them to my friends to try without getting them dirty. I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone else's ear infection.

My go-to for earplugs
I have a spouse who snores, and I am a light sleeper. Early on in our marriage I discovered these, and 25+ years later still use them.I tried a bunch of different earplugs, and these are by far the best.The key to using them effectively is to roll the body of the earplug so that it's narrower, insert it into your ear, and keep your finger positioned against the flat end while the earplug expands to fit your ear canal. Make sure that the lip at at the flat end completely seals against your ear.They are reusable. I wear the plugs most nights, and switch them out when they're getting gross -- usually once or twice a week.The only negative I'll say is that it seems there is a bit of manufacturing variation. A given pair of earplugs that I take out of the box will either work super well, or one or both plugs won't work as well. I tend to just toss them in the garbage when that happens -- maybe 10-15% of the time.Comfort-wise, I think it's quite wearer-specific. I do find that if I wear them every night for more than a week my ears are a little sore in the morning, and when that happens will skip wearing them a night or two.Overall am satisfied, and glad I found them.

First, I haven't actually received my order from Amazon yet as I haven't ordered this item from Amazon before - I've always ordered through other companies (never cross my mind to see if Amazon carried it, silly me) ... BUT I have been using this exact product for many MANY years.My husband snores like a chainsaw that needs a tuneup. I have tried almost every brand available in the USA, and every NRR level - finally found the Howard Leight MAX NRR 33 ear plugs and have never bought anything else since. I've been using this specific earplug for at least 5 years now. Every night without exception - this item works so well at cutting noise that even if I'm not near my snoring husband I can't sleep without them! I've never been a light sleeper, but these plugs are so great it's conditioned me to be very sensitive to noises, any kind, no matter how quiet. I take these with me everywhere I go.The only issue I've ever experienced is when I have to use them more than twice in a 24-hour period - if I take a nap earlier in the day (or am traveling and use them on a flight) I find that my ears are sensitive to the rubber (or whatever material they're made out of) and they get a little sore. Just using them once a day/night I've never experienced any issue. If I know I need to use them more than once in a 24-hour period I put just a tiny drop of lotion (I use Eucerin) on them before inserting and it prevents any abrasion on the skin in my ears. I also find that I can reuse the plugs many times before having to dispose of them.I REALLY recommend this product for noise reduction - whether sleeping or working or playing with loud stuff - it really works and is very inexpensive for the benefits you receive. They're also about $10 cheaper from Amazon than any other retailer, anywhere, for the same exact item.

My nightly ear plug for many years
Quite a long time ago, I bought a large box of these, and only now am I starting to run out, so I just bought another. And that's after sharing many of them with friends and relatives. They come in individually-sealed packs of two, so I'd often bring a bunch with me on trips, and if I happened to be sharing a room (or a tent) with someone else, I'd offer them a pair, because I have been known to snore. A bit. ;-)One pair tends to last me a few weeks, although you could certainly replace them more often, knowing how many of these you get in the box.They are not only comfortable to wear, but they seal the ear opening very well. I put them in pretty far, but have never had a problem getting them out again -- just a pinch between the fingers will usually be good enough to pull them out in the morning. My method is to roll the small end between my fingers to squeeze it a bit, then hold it by the "bell" end and insert into the ear. I may even pull back on my earlobe a bit while putting it in, just to open up the ear canal a bit more.Sound blocking is as good as or better than any other earplugs I've tried.Like I said, these are my go-to, and they have been for many years.

I tried them for the first time last night, coincidentally it was a day where we were having a lot of workers in and out of the house early into the day when we both are sleeping, they were going to be drilling, hammering, knocking, stumbling, laughing, etc. All this coupled with my wife and her inhuman noise of destruction.It took me a while to realize what was happening when I woke up, first of all my wife was gone, I am a very light sleeper so normally if she gets out of the bed that’s enough for me to wake up, I was also confused because there were no workers, no sound, no one. So I said “oh well, I guess I lucked out and nobody came today” and when I pulled my earplug off all hell broke loose! Drills, hammers, talking, my wife on the phone on the other room, etc.This things shut me off from the world to the point where now I am a bit hesitant to use them, I literally felt like being unplugged from The Matrix.Thank you Honeywell for saving my sanity (and marriage, just kidding, not sure)

Comfortable, Effective
Each pair is sealed inside a small plastic bag, and they come in a cardboard box. The box has a "door" and can be used as a simple dispenser. They look identical to the "Super Leight" plugs and have the same rating, so I think they are just re-branded.They are relatively comfortable, and I can wear them for several hours without any significant discomfort. I can use them through a 3 hour concert, or several hours in the garage when using power tools. Removal is easy thanks to the flange, it gives just enough extra material to grab.As with most foam plugs, they take about 5 minutes for them to reach peak NRR. They seem to be on par with other plugs and devices that offer a low 30 db rating.

Reduction is not as thorough as previous generation
Headline: Prior version was superior. The current formulation no longer provides enough reduction in real world use.Details: I am on my third box of these. I use them primarily for motorcycling, but also for loud concerts and occasionally for sleeping.If you don't ride, know that when motorcycling, the need for plugs is all about reducing wind noise, not motor noise (although that's important, too). Wind howling past your helmet is a a steady-state low- and mid-frequency rumble, hours of which will really wear you out,I get three to four motorcycling days out of a pair; a box of 200 lasts 18-24 months. The prior gen are the best plugs I've ever found - ride all day with no hearing fatigue.With this latest box, it's clear the foam formulation is different. The plugs have nowhere near the low-frequency reduction they used to, and are now virtually useless for motorcycling. They're also useless at concerts, where they reduce the mids and highs but leave the lows relative unfiltered, so you end up hearing RRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMRMRMBMMBMBMBMBMB all concert long.Really disappointing. But unless I read reviews noting that Honeywell has gone back to the old formula, this is my last box, and it won't even get used because the plugs themselves are ineffective for my needs.If you're looking for plugs to block night sounds for sleeping, or for study concentration or other lower-volume situations, they will work fine, though IMO they actually provide too much reduction for sleeping.Honeywell - please return this product to its previous formula!

These are high quality plugs but it really is about fit so sample until you find good ones.The louder it is the more it matters.these are one of the few brands I can truly get a good seal to mow with as my mower sounds like a wood chipper.
