It is compatible with Ring Alarm.
Works fine with Ring base station, but initially when I tried to "add device" and then scan the QR code, the app couldn't find it, and the only smoke detector I could select was the Kidde one. But if, instead of scanning right away, you select one of the "other options" at the bottom of the screen, it is listed there and you can scan and connect.Glad to have the 10 year battery life AND z wave compatibility! This replaced previous generation device that stopped working after about 3 years years, but to be fair, it was located in my garage in New England, so it endured extreme temperatures. I was happy that this one fit into the existing mounting bracket.

A downgrade from the model this unit replaced
This would be fine if this worked as advertised. It states that this is a Z-wave connected device. My Z-wave hub (Smartthings) can see it as a Z-wave device. However, it would not connect properly to the hub. When the device made a connection where the Smartthings app required the PIN (basically the first 6 numbers of a long string of numbers on the device used to connect it to a hub), the process would hang and not do anything and the app would hang until you closed the app. No matter how long I waited for the process to finish, the device never would show up in the app.Other times when I try to connect the device to the hub, it would connect but "insecurely." While there may be some reason to be alarmed (pun not intended) by the wording, it also meant that not all functionality worked. Not that there is a whole lot of functionality, but it would just show up as a Z-wave sensor. When I opened the device status in the app, the app would briefly pop up a warning that the device isn't reporting all status. It had various statuses in the app that presumably would never report anything (eg humidity). Obviously, I would not expect the device to ever report many of the different statuses, many of which were not relevant. And while I could have assumed the smoke and CO2 sensors would function properly when the device is connected "insecurely," however I was not going to assume that. I could also assume this would still function like a standard smoke/CO2 detector, but why pay extra when non-smart detectors cost so much less?Because I could not get this device to connect properly, I have returned it and bought a standard smoke/CO2 detector. I am replacing an old one that was in a little used room, so I can get a "dumb" detector for that room. In the future, I probably won't buy any more "smart" smoke/CO2 detectors. There are "smart" "alarm listeners" that probably aren't as informative than having the devices reporting status directly, but if a alarm is sounding the smart (pun intended) thing to do is evacuate and then assess the situation. Standard alarms are enough. Sure, it would be nice to be alerted of rising CO2 levels before evacuation is necessary, but hopefully the alarm never needs to sound anyways.

Only lasts 10years then you have to replace it
Works OK. Paired easily to HomeAssistant with a ZWave adapter. Like the fact that it won't do the end of life chirp and battery will last 10years (life of the detector). I can't hear the stupid end of life chirp and it drives my poor dog nuts. Took me a while to find the culprit and my dog was shaking for over a day afterwards.

Z-Wave Verification Failure
The FirstAlert Model SMC0410 will not connect to my Z-Wave Hub. It communicates initially and the Hub recognizes the device and the app swithes to the "Verify Your Device" page to enter the 5 digit code, it already had the subsequent 35 values. After entering the code, the "processing" rotating circle appeared. After re-initiating the the FirstAlert by holding the button for 2 seconds, it flashes green for a couple of seconds, the app keeps spinning, verification never completes and it eventually failed with the 34-501 code. The subsequent Exclusion worked, indicating that the Hub and FirstAlert were indeed communicating, but the Verification Process does not work. I do not recommend spending extra for this z-wave version of this fire alarm.

Good product. Confusing setup - here's the answer.
I'm using this with a Ring Alarm system. I had an old detector that I was replacing with this one. Remove the old one in the Ring app first.I had a hard time getting this one to pair with my Ring app. I would start the device add and it would stop before the detector was paired. It would tell me to add the device to it's base and push the test button. This would result in multiple alarm rings right in my ears (my ears are still ringing). Here are 2 things to try if you are struggling with adding this device to your ring devices. The second one (resetting the device to factory settings) fixed my issue. I did this reset (holding the test button for 15-30 secs) and then was able to add the device to my Ring system.1. Perform a "Z-Wave Exclusion" (Crucial Step)Even if the device is new, it may have residual data from factory testing that prevents it from pairing.Open the Ring App, go to the Menu, tap Devices, tap Alarm Base Station, and tap Base Station.Tap Advanced Options, then tap Z-Wave.Tap Remove Z-Wave Device. The app will say "Listening for a device...".On the SMCO410, press and hold the test button while you slide it into the mounting bracket (or insert batteries while holding the button).The app should indicate that a device was removed.Ring CommunityRing Community+42. Factory Reset the SMCO410If exclusion did not work, factory reset the detector:With the batteries installed, press and hold the test button for 15–30 seconds.Release the button after the green LED blinks three times and you hear 3 chirps.Wait a few seconds for it to enter standby mode before trying to add it again.

Works with Homeseer, fits existing base on ceiling
Install was easy for me, including the zwave setup on my Homeseer system. VERY IMPORTANT: The device is turned on by the base, mine had 3 clicks. You know it is turned on when the smoke detector chirps. Once it is turned on, it can not be turned off, and, it is an perfect fit for the older first alert zwave smoke alarm base that is already mounted to my ceiling. So replacement of the old alarm was super easy. I put this one in my kitchen because it advertises less nuisance alarms and the old alarm sounded every time I cooked a pizza, so far this hasn't had a false alarm with a pizza cooking, so it does seem more accurate, but we haven't had it long.This connects with zwave mesh. When it first turns on it automatically starts hunting for a hub. So the process of connecting it to my hub was: 1) Get the zwave 40 digit code into my hub, check it 3 or 4 times to make sure it is accurate. 2) Get Homeseer to start searching for a new Zwave mesh (not long range) device. 3) Connect the alarm to the base (keep turning until the alarm chirps). 4) Wait, keep waiting, be patient, and it connected first try.This alarm has better reporting to the hub then the old zwave first alert which never really worked well for me. Zwave setup instructions that came with the device are not very good and the website listed in the instructions just kept redirecting me back to the first alert main website. Other then that I am very happy with this alarm.

Update: operator error. The detector has to be attached to the mounting plate. I should have read the instruction better. All units work great!!Ordered two units. First one worked great. Paired well with ring. Second one was dead and after further inspection it looks like an older unit as the LEDs are not marked. It’s a shame is it’s a great value with both smoke and carbon monoxide plus ring integration. I’m concerned about battery life but it has a 10 year warranty so hopefully the can be replaced.

More false alarms, can't pull or replace batteries, so they charge you more
This is my frist and last of the new SMCO410. It false positives much more easily than the older model, and worse - the silence only lasts 60 seconds not 10 minutes like on the old. AND they jacked up the price (after discontinuing the cheaper model, of course).I just lived through an ordeal where it went off in the middle of the night, and I had to get up dozens of times for 3 hours to silence it. I tried blowing it, moving it to another room, putting it NEXT to the older First Alert Z-Wave (that still works and wasn't triggering). The thing was gaslighting me. Because it was outside of Support's hours, my only recourse was to either SMASH IT, or put it in a blanket, inside a box, in a another box, in the trunk of my car... and I could STILL hear it.I had previously been running the older Z-Wave model that integrated with Ring but had lower sensitivity (still triggered when we burned toast though). I didn't have to run compressed air on the old one every 30 days. This new one triggers when a tree blows in the wind. I am so angry.I guess I will need to get a dumb non-Ring model now, since First Alert wants to lock us into products with short lifecycles and a proclivity to false positive. I'm not sure it'll even last the 10 years given how many times it has alarmed. Do not recommend.

It IS SmartThings Compatible... but... it's not easy...
Out of the box, this smoke alarm would NOT connect to SmartThings, no matter what I tried. The instructions are a joke so it took searching and trying... so here's the process:1. You have to put the alarm on it's mount. Note that the mount has changed from the previous battery version, so plan ahead.2. You have to run Z-Wave Exclude first, and put the detector into inclusion mode to get it to reset. ***Putting it into INCLUSION requires holding the test button until there are TWO beeps. Not one, not three... TWO beeps.*** You will know it's in inclusion mode because the green lights flash quickly a few times.3. After doing an exclusion, add the device via it's QR code. You'll need to put the alarm back into INCLUSION mode again now.After figuring that out and jumping around on one leg chanting to the smarthome gods, this Smoke Detector was fully connected and identified as a smoke detector in SmartThings.I took stars away because the instructions are awful and because I had to get ladder to swap out the mounting ring. WHY did they change this!?!?!?!The description is nice.

Ordered two. One arrived defective
Ordered two of these. The first one synced to my hubitat C8-Pro hub perfectly. The second one would not sync after 30 minutes of tying after factory resetting it like ten times. In addition, the second one started doing the 3 chirps which indicates a faulty unit.Called the support number. After a couple questions and the fact they could hear the 3 chirps over the phone, they are sending me a new unit in the mail and they are paying shipping. Just have to wait for it to arrive.Edit: New unit arrived in the mail and it synced right up to my hubitat. So I received a faulty unit which First Alert resolved for me for free with a new unit shipped to my door.
