3M V-Series Supplied-Air Valve Assemblies Overview

The 3M V-Series supplied-air valve assemblies are air control devices that regulate the breathing air between a Grade D compressed-air supply and a compatible 3M supplied-air head top. The V-100 Vortex cooling assembly cools the compressed air by up to 50Β°F (28Β°C), the V-200 Vortemp heating assembly warms it, and the V-300 air regulating valve only adjusts airflow.

As the 3M V-100 vortex cooling valve, the 3M V-200 heating valve, and the 3M V-300 air regulating valve, this 3M supplied air control device line lets you temper and set the airflow. Each 3M Versaflo airline valve delivers a continuous 6 to 15 cfm (170 to 425 lpm), so the compressor and hose must supply enough volume and pressure.

These are components, not a complete respirator: you also need a Grade D breathing-air source and a compatible 3M head top, such as a 3M Versaflo hood or the 3M Versaflo M-407 helmet, plus a supply hose. For a full airline unit, see the Allegro supplied-air systems, and browse the range in respiratory protection.

What These Valves Are For

Need Valve Buyer guidance
Cool air in hot work V-100 Vortex Cools the supply by up to 50Β°F; uses extra air.
Warm air in cold work V-200 Vortemp Heats the supplied air for cold environments.
Airflow control only V-300 Sets airflow; does not heat or cool.
Spray work V-100PSK Cooling valve paint-spray kit version.
A ready-to-use respirator Not this alone Add a Grade D air source and a head top.

A supplied-air valve is only part of a respirator. These air control devices regulate airflow and temperature but do not filter or purify the supply, so the air source must be Grade D breathable air delivered at the correct pressure, with intakes kept away from carbon monoxide and monitored. To breathe, you must add a Grade D source, a supply hose, and a compatible 3M head top; the valve alone is not a respirator. Because the system runs continuous-flow supplied air, it is not for IDLH or oxygen-deficient atmospheres, which require a pressure-demand supplied-air respirator with an auxiliary escape bottle or a self-contained SCBA. The V-300 controls flow only and does not warm or cool. Set the pressure for your device, hose length, and head top, verify airflow before use, and run the system within a written program under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134. Learn more in our OSHA 1910.134 respiratory protection guide and the 3M respiratory protection guide.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • V-100 cools the supply by up to 50Β°F
  • V-200 heats the air for cold work
  • V-300 sets airflow to a comfortable level
  • Continuous 6-15 cfm (170-425 lpm) airflow
  • Work with compatible 3M supplied-air head tops
Cons
  • Component only; needs a source and head top
  • Do not filter or purify the air supply
  • V-300 does not heat or cool
  • Continuous flow; not for emergency atmospheres

How They Compare

Pick the valve by the job condition:

Valve Function Temperature Best for
V-100 Vortex (this listing) Cooling + flow Cools up to 50Β°F Hot environments
V-200 Vortemp Heating + flow Warms the air Cold environments
V-300 regulating Flow only No change Simple airflow control

Choose the V-100 to cool the air, the V-200 to warm it, or the V-300 for flow control alone, then pair a compatible head top such as a 3M Versaflo hood or the Versaflo M-405 helmet. Frequently Asked Questions

What are the 3M V-Series supplied-air valve assemblies?

They are air control devices that sit between a Grade D compressed-air supply and a 3M supplied-air head top and regulate the breathing air. The V-100 cools the air, the V-200 heats it, and the V-300 only adjusts airflow.

What is the difference between the V-100, V-200, and V-300?

The V-100 Vortex cooling assembly cools the supplied air by up to 50Β°F, the V-200 Vortemp heating assembly warms it, and the V-300 air regulating valve only sets airflow and does not heat or cool. Choose the valve by whether you need cooling, heating, or flow control alone.

How much does the V-100 cool the air?

The V-100 uses a vortex tube to cool the incoming compressed air by as much as 50Β°F (28Β°C), which helps in hot work. Cooling this way uses additional compressed air, so confirm your supply can deliver the required volume and pressure.

Does the V-300 cool or heat the air?

No. The V-300 is strictly an air regulating valve; it lets the worker set airflow to a comfortable level but does not warm or cool the supplied air. If you need temperature control, choose the V-100 for cooling or the V-200 for heating.

What airflow do they provide?

Each device provides a continuous airflow of about 6 to 15 cfm (170 to 425 lpm). Your air supply piping, fittings, and compressor must deliver enough volume and pressure for the specific device, hose length, and head top you use.

Is a valve a complete respirator?

No. The valve is one component of a 3M supplied-air respirator. To assemble a working respirator you also need a Grade D breathing-air source, a supply hose, and a compatible 3M head top such as a hood, helmet, or facepiece, all sold separately.

What air quality does the supply need?

The air supply must be Grade D breathable air as defined by OSHA, delivered at the correct pressure. Position intakes away from contaminants and carbon monoxide sources, and monitor the air, since the valve does not filter or purify the supply.

Which head tops do they work with?

They connect to compatible 3M supplied-air head tops, including 3M Versaflo hoods, helmets, and facepieces set up for airline use. Confirm the exact head-top and hose compatibility on the 3M documentation before assembling a system.

Can I use them in an oxygen-poor or emergency atmosphere?

No. These run continuous-flow supplied air, which is not for oxygen-poor or immediately dangerous atmospheres. Those require a pressure-demand supplied-air respirator with escape or a self-contained air-tank apparatus, and you must confirm the environment first.

What is the V-100PSK?

The V-100PSK is a cooling valve paint-spray kit version of the V-100, configured for spray work. Confirm the exact kit contents and the correct configuration for your task on the 3M documentation before ordering.

Do I need a written respiratory program?

Yes. Supplied-air respirators are used within a written respiratory protection program under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, including training, medical evaluation, air-quality checks, and maintenance. Follow the 3M manual for assembly, use, and inspection.

How do I maintain the valve?

Inspect the valve, fittings, and hose connections before each use, verify airflow to the head top, keep the air supply clean and monitored, and service the device per the 3M schedule. Follow the 3M manual for pressure settings and part numbers.
