3M Combination Cartridge FF-800 hard case HF HF-800 Hydrogen Fluoride NIOSH Approved
EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5 WC Safety Review β€” 3M Secure Click D9093C P100 + Hydrogen Fluoride Filter, Hard Case

Best For: P100 particulate protection plus aerosol-phase hydrogen fluoride (HF aerosol) in semiconductor, glass etching, and fluorochemical processing environments β€” on 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators.

Not For: Vapor-phase hydrogen fluoride (HF gas), organic vapor, general acid gas, ammonia, CO, or any gas/vapor hazard; 3M bayonet respirators (6000/6500/7500/7800S/FF-400); oxygen-deficient or IDLH atmospheres.

Bottom Line: The D9093C is the correct hard-case P100 + HF-aerosol filter for Secure Click users in HF aerosol environments β€” but confirm your hazard is aerosol-phase, not vapor-phase, before ordering. If you need a soft-shell P95 + HF filter, the D3076HF is the alternative; for plain P100 hard-case without HF coverage, compare the D9093.

3M Secure Click D9093C Overview

The 3M Secure Click D9093C is a NIOSH-approved P100 particulate filter with aerosol-phase hydrogen fluoride (HF aerosol) protection, housed in a rigid polycarbonate hard case, and sold as a pair for 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators. It captures β‰₯99.97% of oil and non-oil airborne particles and provides additional filtration for HF aerosol β€” the liquid droplet form of hydrogen fluoride found in semiconductor fabrication, glass etching, and certain fluorochemical processing operations.

The D9093C fits only the 3M Secure Click platform via the push-and-lock audible-click mount β€” it is not compatible with any 3M bayonet respirator. It is a filter, not a cartridge: it stops particles (and HF aerosol), but it does not capture vapor-phase HF, organic vapor, or any other gas. For the full P100 filter lineup, browse the P100 respirator filters collection and the 3M filters and cartridges collection. To understand how P100 compares to lower classes, read P100 vs N95 β€” which do you need, or consult the 3M filter and cartridge guide.

Where the D9093C Fits in Respirator Selection

The D9093C occupies a narrow but critical niche: Secure Click users facing HF aerosol + fine particulate who also want the mechanical protection of a hard-case housing. Before buying, confirm three things:

  • Respirator platform β€” you must be running a Secure Click HF-800 or FF-800. If you use a bayonet mask (3M 6000, 6500QL, 7500, 7800S, FF-400), this filter will not attach.
  • HF form factor β€” the D9093C covers HF aerosol only, not vapor-phase HF. If your industrial hygiene assessment identifies vapor-phase HF, a cartridge with HF vapor protection is required β€” consult the how to choose a respirator cartridge guide and your qualified industrial hygienist.
  • Hard-case vs soft-shell preference β€” the hard-case housing protects the filter media from physical damage and contamination in tool-dense environments. If a soft-shell P95+HF filter is adequate for your exposure level, the lower-cost D3076HF (P95 + HF) is the alternative.

For a broader decision framework, respirator filter types explained covers the difference between filters and cartridges and when each applies.

Who Should Buy the 3M Secure Click D9093C?

Buy the D9093C if you run a 3M Secure Click HF-800 or FF-800 respirator and your hazard assessment identifies HF aerosol and fine particulate β€” typical of semiconductor wet-etch bays, glass etching lines, and fluorochemical milling β€” and you want the physical protection of a rigid hard-case filter housing.

Choose a different product if:

  • Your HF exposure is vapor-phase β†’ the D9093C does not cover vapor-phase HF. Work with your industrial hygienist to select the appropriate cartridge.
  • You need P95 (not P100) + HF aerosol on Secure Click β†’ the soft-shell D3076HF.
  • You need plain P100 hard-case (no HF requirement) β†’ the D9093 at a lower price point.
  • You need P100 hard-case + nuisance acid gas relief β†’ the D9093CB.
  • You need soft P100 + nuisance acid gas relief β†’ the D3096.
  • You use a 3M bayonet respirator β†’ Secure Click filters do not fit bayonet mounts. See the full 3M filters and cartridges collection for bayonet-compatible options.

What Does the D9093C Protect Against?

Hazard D9093C Fit Buyer Guidance
Non-oil particulate (dust, fume, mist) βœ… P100 Captures β‰₯99.97% of airborne particles β€” highest NIOSH filter class
Oil-based aerosols and mists βœ… P-rated "P" = oil-proof; handles metalworking mist and oil aerosols that N/R-rated filters are not rated for
HF aerosol (liquid-phase hydrogen fluoride) βœ… HF aerosol Specific to aerosol/droplet form β€” semiconductor etch, glass etching, fluorochemical milling
Vapor-phase HF (HF gas) ❌ NOT covered Requires a cartridge rated for vapor-phase HF β€” consult your industrial hygienist
Organic vapor / acid gas / ammonia / CO ❌ NOT covered A Secure Click cartridge (not filter) is required for gas or vapor protection

What the D9093C Does NOT Protect Against

  • Vapor-phase hydrogen fluoride
  • Organic vapor
  • Acid gas (vapor)
  • Ammonia
  • Formaldehyde
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Oxygen deficiency
  • IDLH atmospheres
  • Unknown atmospheres

Safety: The D9093C is a P100 + HF-aerosol filter; it does not protect against vapor-phase HF, gases, or vapors, and no filter adds oxygen. It fits only the 3M Secure Click platform β€” do not attempt to mount it on bayonet respirators. Oxygen-deficient, unknown, and IDLH atmospheres require supplied air, SCBA, or another solution specified by a qualified safety professional. HF is an extreme hazard: exposure controls, medical surveillance, and emergency planning must follow your facility's written respiratory protection program and applicable OSHA and industrial hygiene standards.

Best Applications for the D9093C

Semiconductor Fabrication and Wet-Etch Operations

Semiconductor fabs using hydrofluoric acid in wet-bench or spray-tool processes generate HF aerosol alongside fine particulate. The D9093C's P100 + HF-aerosol rating covers both in a hard-case housing that resists physical damage from tool-dense fab environments. Verify with your industrial hygienist that HF aerosol β€” not vapor-phase HF β€” is the dominant exposure form before specifying this filter. Browse compatible respirators in the 3M full-face respirators collection.

Glass Etching and Frosting

Glass etching with HF-based pastes or solutions produces HF aerosol and glass particulate simultaneously. The D9093C handles the combined particulate + HF aerosol hazard profile at P100 efficiency, making it a fit for decorative glass, architectural glass, and optical lens operations where both hazard types coexist.

Fluorochemical Processing and Milling

Certain fluoropolymer milling and fluorochemical processing operations generate fine fluorine-containing particulate and HF aerosol as a byproduct. The hard-case housing offers added physical protection in mechanically demanding settings. For general P100 particulate without the HF requirement, the standard D9093 hard-case filter covers the same particulate class at a lower cost.

High-Volume Secure Click Programs Requiring HF Coverage

For facilities standardized on the Secure Click HF-800/FF-800 platform that have a documented HF aerosol hazard, the D9093C provides a consistent, program-wide filter specification. The hard-case housing is particularly valued in cleanroom and fab environments where filter damage or contamination is a quality concern. Explore the full P100 filters collection for all platform options.

D9093C vs Other 3M Secure Click Hard-Case and P100 Filters

Filter Class HF Coverage Housing Choose If
D9093C P100 HF aerosol βœ… Hard case P100 + HF aerosol, hard-case protection
D9093 P100 None Hard case Hard-case P100, no HF requirement, lower cost
D9093CB P100 + Nuisance acid gas Hard case Hard-case P100 + nuisance acid gas relief (not HF-specific)
D3076HF P95 HF aerosol βœ… Soft shell P95 + HF aerosol, soft shell, lower cost
D3091 P100 None Soft shell Standard P100 particulate, soft shell, no HF requirement
D3096 P100 + Nuisance acid gas Soft shell Soft P100 + nuisance acid gas relief

D9093C vs D9093 (Plain P100 Hard Case)

The D9093 and D9093C are both Secure Click P100 hard-case filters. The sole difference is that the D9093C adds HF aerosol coverage, which comes at a price premium. If your site has no documented HF aerosol exposure, the D9093 gives you identical P100 particulate protection at a lower cost. Buy the D9093C only when HF aerosol is a confirmed hazard in your air monitoring or industrial hygiene assessment.

D9093C vs D3076HF (P95 + HF Soft Shell)

Both the D9093C and the D3076HF cover HF aerosol on the Secure Click platform, but they differ on two dimensions. First, efficiency: the D9093C is P100 (β‰₯99.97%); the D3076HF is P95 (β‰₯95%) β€” for high-hazard substances such as silica, lead, or where your industrial hygienist specifies P100, the D9093C is required. Second, housing: the D9093C's hard case resists physical damage; the D3076HF is a conventional soft-shell filter that is lighter and less bulky. For lighter-duty HF aerosol work where P95 is the specified class, the D3076HF is a cost-effective choice.

D9093C vs D9093CB (Hard Case + Nuisance Acid Gas)

The D9093CB is a P100 hard-case filter with nuisance-level acid gas relief, while the D9093C is specifically rated for HF aerosol. These address different sub-hazards: the D9093C is the specification for documented HF aerosol environments; the D9093CB is appropriate where a broad nuisance acid gas layer (not specifically HF) is the secondary concern. Do not substitute one for the other without confirming the specific hazard with your industrial hygienist.

3M Secure Click D9093C Quick Answers

What is the 3M Secure Click D9093C?

The 3M Secure Click D9093C is a NIOSH-approved P100 particulate filter with aerosol-phase hydrogen fluoride (HF aerosol) protection, housed in a rigid polycarbonate hard case, and sold as a pair. It mounts on 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators via an audible push-and-lock click mechanism.

Does the D9093C protect against vapor-phase HF?

No. The D9093C covers HF in aerosol (liquid droplet) form only. Vapor-phase hydrogen fluoride requires a cartridge rated for HF vapor β€” a filter cannot capture gas-phase molecules. If your air monitoring identifies vapor-phase HF, consult a qualified industrial hygienist for the correct cartridge selection.

What respirators does the D9093C fit?

The D9093C fits only 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators. It is not compatible with any 3M bayonet respirator, including the 6000, 6500QL, 7500, 7800S, or FF-400 series.

Why choose a hard-case filter over a soft-shell filter?

The rigid polycarbonate housing on the D9093C protects the filter media from crushing, puncturing, and surface contamination in tool-dense environments such as semiconductor fabs and industrial process lines. Soft-shell filters offer lighter weight and lower profile; hard-case filters trade those benefits for durability and contamination resistance.

Is the D9093C P100 or P95?

The D9093C is P100, capturing at least 99.97% of airborne particles β€” the highest NIOSH particulate filter class. It is also P-rated (oil-proof), meaning it handles oil-based aerosols that N-series and R-series filters are not rated for.

What is the difference between the D9093C and the D9093?

The D9093C adds HF aerosol coverage to the base D9093 P100 hard-case filter. Both are Secure Click P100 hard-case filters; the D9093C is the correct specification when hydrogen fluoride aerosol is a confirmed workplace hazard. If HF aerosol is not present, the lower-cost D9093 provides the same P100 particulate protection.

How many filters come in a D9093C pack?

The D9093C is sold as a pair β€” two filters per pack, one for each side of the respirator.

3M Secure Click D9093C Frequently Asked Questions

What industries use the 3M Secure Click D9093C?

The D9093C is specified primarily in semiconductor fabrication (HF wet-etch), glass etching and frosting, optical lens manufacturing, and fluorochemical or fluoropolymer processing β€” any setting where HF aerosol and fine particulate coexist and a hard-case P100 filter on a Secure Click respirator is the specified protection.

Can I use the D9093C on a 3M 6000 series respirator?

No. The 3M 6000 series uses a bayonet mount that is physically incompatible with the Secure Click push-and-lock system. Attempting to force-fit a Secure Click filter onto a bayonet respirator will result in an unsealed connection. The D9093C fits only the HF-800 and FF-800 Secure Click respirators.

Is the D9093C approved for vapor-phase hydrogen fluoride?

No. The D9093C is rated for HF aerosol (liquid-droplet phase) only. Vapor-phase HF molecules pass through a particulate filter. If your air monitoring identifies vapor-phase HF as the exposure form, a cartridge rated for HF vapor is required β€” confirm with a qualified industrial hygienist.

How does P100 compare to P95 for HF aerosol work?

P100 captures β‰₯99.97% of airborne particles; P95 captures β‰₯95%. For highly toxic substances where the occupational exposure limit is very low β€” as is the case with hydrogen fluoride β€” P100 provides a greater assigned protection factor. The D3076HF offers P95 + HF aerosol; the D9093C offers P100 + HF aerosol. Your industrial hygienist and written respiratory protection program should specify the required class.

Does the D9093C protect against silica dust?

Yes, for particulate silica. The D9093C is P100, the filter class most commonly specified for crystalline silica, lead, asbestos, and other high-hazard respirable particulates. The added HF aerosol coverage does not diminish its P100 particulate performance. See the best respirator for silica dust guide for broader selection guidance.

What is the difference between the D9093C and the D9093CB?

The D9093C provides P100 + HF aerosol coverage in a hard case. The D9093CB provides P100 + nuisance acid gas relief in a hard case β€” the acid gas relief is a broad nuisance-level layer, not a HF-specific rating. These are different hazard specifications and should not be substituted for each other without confirming the exact hazard with an industrial hygienist.

How often should I replace the D9093C?

Replace the D9093C when it is damaged, soiled, or breathing resistance increases noticeably, or according to the change-out schedule in your employer's written respiratory protection program. A particulate filter has no reliable odor or taste indicator; follow a time- or condition-based schedule set by your program administrator.

Can the D9093C be used with both half-face and full-face Secure Click respirators?

Yes. The Secure Click push-and-lock mount is the same on both the HF-800 half facepiece and the FF-800 full facepiece. The D9093C fits either respirator in the Secure Click platform.

Is the D9093C sold as a single filter or a pair?

The D9093C is sold as a pair β€” two filters are included in the package, one for each side of the respirator. Confirm the current pack format on the product listing before ordering.

Does the hard case on the D9093C affect breathability?

The hard-case housing encases the same P100 filter media as other Secure Click P100 filters. Breathability is determined by the filter media, not the outer housing. The hard case adds some bulk and weight but does not meaningfully increase breathing resistance compared to an equivalent soft-shell P100 filter.

What welding fume applications suit the D9093C?

The D9093C is not a typical welding-fume filter β€” its HF aerosol layer is for HF-specific environments. For standard welding fume, a plain P100 filter such as the D3091 is the lower-cost, more appropriate specification. See the best respirator for welding fumes guide for selection detail.

Arrived damaged and incomplete.
Item came in an intact Amazon envelope, however the inside package was damaged, product was damaged, and only 1 out of the pair was there. I don't believe 3M would send in such terrible packaging, given how important respirator filters are. We'll see how Amazon stands by their return and if the full set I ordered comes.
