EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.6/5 WC Safety Review — 3M Secure Click D9093 P100 Hard Case Filter

Best For: P100 particulate protection — fine dusts, silica, lead, asbestos, oil-based mists, and metalworking aerosols — on 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators where storage durability matters.

Not For: Gases or vapors of any kind, 3M bayonet respirators (6000/6500/7500/7800S/FF-400), or oxygen-deficient/IDLH atmospheres. The hard case adds no chemical protection.

Bottom Line: The D9093 is the right call when your Secure Click program needs maximum particulate efficiency and the rigid polycarbonate case keeps filters intact between shifts; for the same P100 protection in a soft housing, compare the D3091, and for the hydrogen-fluoride variant choose the D9093C.

3M Secure Click D9093 Overview

The 3M Secure Click D9093 is a NIOSH-approved P100 particulate filter in a rigid polycarbonate hard case, capturing ≥99.97% of oil and non-oil airborne particles on 3M Secure Click HF-800 half-facepiece and FF-800 full-facepiece respirators. It is sold as one pair (two filters). The D9093 is a particulate filter only — it provides no gas or vapor protection — and connects exclusively via the Secure Click push-and-lock bayonet, not the standard 3M bayonet used on 6000, 7500, or 7800S respirators.

Choose the D9093 when your Secure Click program runs in environments with silica, lead, asbestos, fine metalworking mist, or any hazard where P100 efficiency and durable filter housing are required. For broader context on selecting the right protection class, see the P100 vs N95 guide, the respirator filter types explainer, and the full 3M filter and cartridge guide. Browse all compatible options in the 3M filters and cartridges collection.

Where the D9093 Fits in Respirator Selection

Confirm two things before ordering: that you own a 3M Secure Click HF-800 or FF-800 respirator (not a bayonet mask), and that your hazard is particulate — not gas or vapor. From there, the D9093 is the hard-case P100 option on this platform.

  • Secure Click + P100 particulate (silica, lead, asbestos, fine mist) → the D9093 (hard case) or the soft-housing D3091. See the best respirator for silica dust guide for substance-specific guidance.
  • Secure Click + P100 + hydrogen fluoride → the D9093C (hard case with HF rating).
  • Secure Click + P100 + nuisance acid gas relief → the D9093CB (bulk case of 144) or the soft D3096.
  • Secure Click + P95 (lower-cost particulate) → the D3071 or D3078.
  • Gas or vapor exposure also present → a combination cartridge such as the D80921 (OV/P100) — a filter alone will not protect against vapors. Use the how to choose a respirator cartridge guide to confirm.
  • Standard 3M bayonet respirator → the D9093 will not fit; use the 3M 2091 (P100) for bayonet platforms instead.

Who Should Buy the 3M Secure Click D9093?

Buy the D9093 if you run a 3M HF-800 or FF-800 Secure Click respirator, your hazard is P100-class particulate (silica, lead, asbestos, fine metalworking mist, or high-hazard dust), and you want the rigid hard case to protect filters during transport and storage between shifts.

Choose a different filter if:

  • You want P100 at a lower price point and soft housing is acceptable → the D3091.
  • Your environment includes hydrogen fluoride → the D9093C hard-case HF variant.
  • You want P100 + nuisance acid gas relief → the D3096 or bulk D9093CB.
  • You need P100 plus organic vapor or acid gas in one cartridge → the D80921 or D80923.
  • You run a bayonet respirator → a bayonet-mount P100 filter such as the 3M 2091.
  • P95 is sufficient and cost matters → the D3071.

What Does the D9093 Protect Against?

Hazard D9093 Fit Buyer Guidance
Non-oil dust and dry particulate ✅ P100 Captures ≥99.97% of airborne particles per NIOSH
Oil-based mists and aerosols ✅ P-rated "P" designation = oil-proof; handles coolant mist, metalworking fluid aerosol
Silica (crystalline quartz) ✅ P100 P100 is the accepted control for silica dust per OSHA silica standard
Lead dust and fume ✅ P100 P100 meets the OSHA lead standard (1926.62 / 1910.1025) particulate requirement
Asbestos fiber ✅ P100 P100 is the minimum NIOSH-recommended class for asbestos work
Welding fume (particulate component) ✅ P100 Captures metal fume particles; see welding fume guide for full selection
Organic vapor, acid gas, ammonia ❌ None Use a Secure Click combination cartridge for gas or vapor exposure
Hydrogen fluoride ❌ None Choose the D9093C for HF environments

What the D9093 Does NOT Protect Against

  • Organic vapor
  • Acid gas
  • Ammonia / methylamine
  • Formaldehyde
  • Hydrogen fluoride
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Mercury vapor
  • Oxygen deficiency
  • Unknown atmospheres
  • IDLH conditions

Safety note: The D9093 is a particulate filter only and adds no gas or vapor protection and no oxygen. It fits only the 3M Secure Click platform — do not attempt to mount it on standard bayonet respirators. Oxygen-deficient, unknown-contaminant, and IDLH atmospheres require supplied-air or SCBA equipment specified by a qualified safety professional; this filter is not appropriate for those conditions. When gases are also present alongside particulate, use a combination cartridge such as the D80921 OV/P100.

Best Applications for the D9093

Silica, Lead, and Asbestos Work

The D9093 delivers P100 efficiency (≥99.97%) for high-hazard particulate work where regulatory standards specifically require the P100 class — silica dust in construction and mining, lead in demolition and battery recycling, and asbestos abatement. The rigid hard case protects filter media from physical damage when stored in tool belts or work bags between tasks. For full selection guidance by substance, see best respirator for silica dust and browse the P100 respirator filters collection.

Metalworking and Oil-Based Mist Environments

Because the D9093 is P-rated (oil-proof), it handles oil-based metalworking fluid aerosols and coolant mists that N-series or R-series filters are not designed for. Its P100 class exceeds the P95 minimum in most machining and grinding programs, giving additional protection margin. Compare the rating logic in the respirator filter types guide.

Welding Fume (Particulate Component)

The D9093 captures the metallic particle fraction of welding fume at P100. When the welding process also generates significant gases (ozone, CO, NO₂), a combination cartridge rather than a standalone filter is required — consult the best respirator for welding fumes guide for a complete analysis.

Programs Requiring Durable Filter Storage

For field programs where filters are shared across shifts or stored in shared equipment lockers, the D9093's polycarbonate hard case prevents the filter media from being crushed, contaminated, or damaged. Crews using 3M Secure Click FF-800 or HF-800 platforms can find compatible respirators in the 3M full-face respirators collection.

D3097 P100 Soft Nuisance OV relief P100 + nuisance organic vapor, soft housing
D3071 P95 Soft Lower cost, P100 not required by task

D9093 vs D3091

Both are Secure Click P100 particulate filters that fit HF-800 and FF-800 respirators. The key difference is housing: the D9093 uses a rigid polycarbonate hard case that resists crushing and contamination during storage, while the D3091 uses a lighter soft housing that typically lists at a lower price. Choose the D9093 when filter durability or shared-equipment storage is a program requirement; choose the D3091 when you store filters in original packaging and want to minimize per-filter cost.

D9093 vs D9093C

Both are hard-case P100 Secure Click filters. The D9093C adds hydrogen fluoride protection — buy the D9093C if your environment includes HF or HF-generating processes such as semiconductor fabrication, glass etching, or certain aluminum smelting operations. The D9093 is the correct choice when HF is not present and you only need P100 particulate protection.

D9093 vs D9093CB

The D9093CB is the bulk version — sold as a case of 144 — and adds nuisance-level acid gas relief. If you buy at high volume and your environment has low-level acid gas odor, the D9093CB addresses both concerns. Buy the D9093 when you need a single pair and nuisance relief is not required.

3M Secure Click D9093 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 3M Secure Click D9093 filter used for?

The D9093 is used for P100 particulate protection — silica, lead, asbestos, fine metalworking mist, oil-based aerosols, and high-hazard dusts — on 3M Secure Click HF-800 and FF-800 respirators. The rigid hard case keeps the filter media protected during storage and transport between uses.

Does the D9093 fit 3M bayonet respirators like the 6500 or 7500?

No. The D9093 uses the Secure Click push-and-lock mount, which is not compatible with the standard 3M bayonet connection found on the 6000, 6500QL, 7500, 7800S, or FF-400 series. For those respirators, use a bayonet-mount P100 filter such as the 3M 2091.

Is the D9093 a P95 or P100 filter?

The D9093 is P100, the highest NIOSH particulate efficiency class, capturing at least 99.97% of airborne particles including oil-based aerosols. P100 is the required class for silica, lead, and asbestos under OSHA substance-specific standards.

What is the difference between the D9093 and D9093C?

The D9093 is a standard P100 hard-case filter with no gas protection. The D9093C adds hydrogen fluoride resistance — choose it for semiconductor fabrication, glass etching, or other processes where HF is present. If HF is not a hazard in your environment, the D9093 is the correct choice.

Can I use the D9093 on an FF-800 full-face respirator?

Yes. The D9093 is designed for both the HF-800 half facepiece and the FF-800 full facepiece — both use the Secure Click push-and-lock connection. On the FF-800 the assigned protection factor increases to 50 (versus 10 on the HF-800).

Does the D9093 hard case add any chemical protection?

No. The hard case is a polycarbonate housing that protects the physical filter media from damage during storage and handling. It does not add any gas or chemical filtration capability. The D9093 remains a particulate-only filter regardless of the housing type.

How many filters come in a box of D9093?

The D9093 is sold as one pair — two filters. For bulk purchasing, the D9093CB is available as a case of 144 (though it also includes nuisance acid gas relief; confirm your hazard requirements before substituting).

Is the D9093 approved for silica dust?

Yes. The D9093 is NIOSH-approved at P100 efficiency under 42 CFR Part 84 Subpart K (TC-21C). P100 is the class specified under OSHA's silica standard for respirator use in high-exposure silica environments on Secure Click respirators.

Should I buy the D9093 or the D9093CB?

Buy the D9093 when you need one pair and have no nuisance-level acid gas concern. Buy the D9093CB when you purchase at high volume and your environment includes nuisance-level acid gas odors — it ships as a bulk case of 144 and adds acid gas relief to the hard-case P100 design.

Does the D9093 protect against welding fume?

The D9093 captures the metallic particulate fraction of welding fume at P100 efficiency. When the welding process also generates gaseous byproducts — ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide — a combination cartridge is required rather than a standalone filter. Consult the welding fume guide to confirm your full hazard profile before selecting.

When should I replace the D9093 filter?

Replace the D9093 when it is damaged, soiled, physically crushed, or difficult to breathe through. There is no timed replacement schedule for particulate filters under NIOSH or OSHA — the end-of-service-life is determined by breathing resistance and physical condition, or per your written respiratory protection program.

Is the D9093 good for asbestos abatement?

P100 is the NIOSH-recommended minimum efficiency class for asbestos fiber, and the D9093 meets that requirement on Secure Click respirators. Asbestos abatement work also has specific training, medical evaluation, and written program requirements under OSHA 1926.1101 — filter selection is one component of a complete respiratory protection program.
