EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.3/5 β€” WC Safety Review of the Jackson Hellraiser IR 5.0, a green-lens Shade 5 gas-welding safety glass with an ANSI Z87.1+ impact base.
Editorial assessment by the WC Safety Editorial Team, based on published Jackson Safety specifications and category fit. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Jackson Hellraiser IR 5.0 (Jackson Safety 20545) is an ANSI Z87.1+ welding safety glass with a built-in IR/Shade 5.0 filter β€” a green 5.0 lens in a black frame β€” designed for oxy-acetylene cutting, brazing, and medium gas welding. The shaded lens blocks the bright light and IR of gas processes while the impact-rated polycarbonate base shields against sparks, slag, and debris β€” the Hellraiser take on the gas-welding glass.

Why the Jackson Hellraiser IR 5.0 works for gas processes

Gas cutting and brazing throw off a bright, IR-heavy glare that clear safety glasses do nothing about β€” and a full arc helmet is overkill and too dark for the task. This green-lens Shade 5.0 glass sits in that gap: a built-in IR/Shade 5.0 filter to tame the light, on an impact-rated polycarbonate base that still stops sparks and slag. As welding safety glasses go, the Jackson Safety Hellraiser brings a black-frame, green-lens style to the category. The safety glasses buyer's guide covers how lens filters and impact ratings work together, and the when-do-you-need-safety-glasses guide covers matching eyewear to the job.

Safety first: Shade 5.0 is for lower-radiation gas work β€” oxy-acetylene cutting, brazing, medium gas welding. It is not a substitute for a welding helmet during arc welding (MIG/TIG/stick), which produces far more radiation and requires a much darker helmet shade; many welders wear these under a helmet as secondary protection. And as a shaded impact glass it is not a sealed goggle β€” it is not rated against a chemical splash hazard, fine dust, or vapor, which require sealed goggles or a face shield. Match the shade to the process with the hazard-assessment guide.

What the Jackson Hellraiser IR 5.0 listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI Z87.1+ high-impact rating with a built-in IR/Shade 5.0 filter; a green 5.0 lens in a black frame; an impact-rated polycarbonate base; Jackson Safety part 3013860, model 20545. These are true shade 5 welding glasses and genuine ir 5 welding glasses β€” purpose-built gas welding safety glasses rather than clear impact eyewear.

How Shade 5.0 gas glasses compare to arc gear and other options

Shade 5.0 glasses cover gas cutting and brazing; the moment you strike an arc you need a helmet, not glasses. Among Shade 5.0 peers, compare the Bolle Safety Shade 5.0, the Miller Electric Shade 5.0, and the mirrored-lens Hobart 770726. For lighter Shade 3 tasks or flip-up designs, see the Pyramex SB7950SF Shade 3, the Sellstrom Shade 5 flip-up, the 3M Shade 3 flip-up, and the Lincoln Electric StarLite IR. Brand lines like 3M and Pyramex also carry welding-shade options.

Choosing the right protection for your task

For clear vision when you are not cutting, keep a clear-lens pair on hand, and for fogging in the shop the anti-fog collection and anti-fog guide help; the clear-vs-smoke guide explains tint choices, and foam-sealed styles live in the foam-lined collection. Where the hazard is splash, dust, or vapor rather than light, step to sealed safety goggles, and the eye protection collection covers the full category.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

Shade 5.0 glasses suit fabrication, HVAC brazing, plumbing, and maintenance crews doing gas cutting β€” the manufacturing, construction, and mechanics guides rank frames by task, and the best safety glasses 2026 roundup places welding-shade options in the wider field. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account β€” volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

Works great for CNC plasma table
Was looking for something that allowed me to watch the cut and provide me with protection. These work great

No more red lights.
Love them I had a pair a while back but could not for the life of me find a good replacement until now. Great for welding or cutting. Don drive if you can't judge distance because you will not see tail lights brake lights or stop lights.

Comfortable, don't wear while driving.
Lightweight and seal pretty well around my face. No splash light from the sides. But oh man was wearing them while riding with a friend driving. Couldn't see any break or stop lights, or really anything red. Which isn't bad for work purposes, but can't serve dual purpose as sunglasses.

Great Cutting Glasses
Great quality and comfortable fit. I needed to replace my older worn-out pair, and these are way better and feel comfortable when wearing them.

Good IR & UV Protection For Kiln Work
I bought these for infrared & UV protection while working with a kiln. They're very dark and I assume they need to be so for the level of protection they provide, which I assume to be ANSI level 5 from the product description.

Very dark. Very green. Can't see anything red...
As the title says. These glasses are dark and definitely tint everything green. They feel lightweight, yet still manage to put slight pressure on my head when worn (the pressure approaches uncomfortable but, after a month of use, hasn't crossed that threshold). The biggest shock: when wearing these, you cannot see any red colors. Reds become black. Brake lights? Can't see most of them. Can't see red stoplights. They ARE dark, though. Not quite 'look at an eclipse' dark, but able to drive into the morning or evening Sun.

Nice glasses
Their great safety glasses however don’t drive with them, taillights/break lights don’t register through the very dark green lenses

not as discribed
These are welder's lens, very bright and not suitable for normal safety glass wear. Product was not dissribed as a welter's lens.

2nd pair and love them!
I've had a pair of these in the past, but I broke them. Not only do these work for grinding (not dark enough for welding fyi) but they also work excellent on very bright and sunny days; especially when the ground is covered in snow! Excellent for skiing and they look cool, too.
