EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5 — WC Safety Review of the Uvex Avatar, the versatile mid-profile wraparound with anti-fog and contrast lens options.
Editorial assessment by the WC Safety Editorial Team, based on published Uvex specifications and category fit. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Uvex Avatar is a mid-profile wraparound safety glass from Honeywell's Uvex line, rated ANSI Z87.1+, offered in five lens and frame color combinations. It provides HydroShield permanent anti-fog on the anti-fog variants and SCT Reflect-50 contrast-enhancing lenses, in a solid co-polymer frame available in Blue/Black, Black/Black, and Red/Black — a versatile mid-profile fit for workers who want anti-fog or contrast performance without an oversized frame.

Why the Uvex Avatar is the versatile mid-profile pick

Some workers find slim glasses too small and full-coverage frames too bulky — the Avatar sits in between, a mid-profile wraparound that fits a broad range of faces. Then it adds the lenses that matter: HydroShield permanent anti-fog for humid work, and an SCT Reflect-50 contrast lens for sharper detail in bright or variable light. In a sporty color-combo frame at a fair price, it's an easy everyday choice. Our full Uvex Avatar review rates it 4.4/5, and the safety glasses buyer's guide covers matching frame profile and lens to the job.

Safety first: the Avatar is impact-and-debris protection, not a sealed goggle — it is not rated against a chemical splash hazard, fine airborne dust, or vapor, which require sealed goggles or a face shield per your hazard assessment. Match the lens to the light: a mirror or SCT lens indoors can dim your view of hazards, so keep a clear anti-fog lens for indoor tasks. Choose eyewear against measured hazards with the when-do-you-need-safety-glasses guide.

What the listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI Z87.1+ high-impact rating; a mid-profile wraparound co-polymer frame in Blue/Black, Black/Black, and Red/Black; HydroShield permanent anti-fog on the anti-fog variants and an SCT Reflect-50 contrast lens; five lens/frame combinations; base model S2870HS. As uvex safety glasses go, the Avatar is the versatile member — a genuine mid profile safety glasses fit and a true anti fog safety glasses on its HydroShield variants.

Choosing your Avatar variant

Match the lens to the light: Clear Anti-Fog from the clear-lens collection for indoor and humid work, Gray or Amber Anti-Fog for outdoor and low-light, the SCT Reflect-50 for contrast, and Blue Mirror for bright sun. The clear-vs-smoke lens guide settles the outdoor call, and the HydroShield anti-fog variants pair with the anti-fog guide and anti-fog collection.

Where the Avatar sits in the Uvex line

The Avatar is Uvex's versatile mid-profile frame; the Hypershock is the larger modular platform with six lens technologies, the Tirade adds a sealed foam gasket, and the Millennia is the classic economy wraparound. Prescription wearers take the Astro OTG. Browse the full Uvex safety glasses collection, and the best safety glasses 2026 roundup places the line against other brands.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The mid-profile fit and lens options suit general industry, assembly, and outdoor trades — the construction, manufacturing, and mechanics guides rank frames by task, and smaller-faced wearers should check the small-face guide and women's fit guide. Where the hazard exceeds impact — splash, dust, vapor — step to a sealed goggle from the safety goggles collection or the broader eye protection collection. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

Don’t fog up
These are great glasses if you work in a hot environment and don’t want your glasses to fog up. The air holes on the top part by the forehead help them to be anti fog. The ear pieces are adjustable with make them comfortable on your nose and around your ears. Good eye protection but they do scratch up easily.

Look good and offer UV protection
Excellent pair that is both light, comfortable, and offer eye and vision protection. I have a pair I use for outdoor inspections and these fit the bill. I take away one point, because even though they sit on top of a desk 99.9% of the time, they've accumulated light scratches. Wish they had an anti scratch coating.

Pickleball - Big thumbs up!
Puchased specifically for pickleball. I’m a solid 3.5 pickleball player who plays with 3.5 and low end 4.0s. Played tennis all my life w/o safety glasses, but in pickleball doubles, getting hit hard in the face is all too common (direct hit volleys, smashes, deflections off top of net, deflections off partner’s paddle, etc). Some players actually aim at you.I’m really super happy with these for indoor play. Have not used them in sunshine yet, but when driving with them in sunshine the experience was positive too. Yes, they do give a yellow tint to objects and they modify colors creating an oddly colored field of view, but in the less than perfect low light of indoor courts they seem to significantly enhance the contrast of objects giving “equal to or better than” visibility versus no glasses at all. I was adjusted to them within about 10 minutes. I have not experienced any discernible distortion of any type that affected any shot (in 4+ hours of aggressive play).Regarding fogging, none. I play with a baseball cap on which tends to reduce air flow at the top of the glasses. Played today with nor-easter going on outside 100% humidity - no fogging. Played a few days ago cool and dry outside, sweaty inside - no fog. I ordered a second pair today for nighttime driving use.So I just asked the AI ChatGPT what colors are enhanced by amber lenses. Here is the answer:Amber lenses enhance contrast and depth perception, making them beneficial for low-light conditions. They are known to improve visibility in foggy or overcast weather, and they can also reduce eye strain by filtering out blue light.BTW… Don’t forget that the temple arms can go up and down where they meet the frame (so they are not crooked on your face).

Durable and Comfortable
These are great glasses. I have four pair! I keep one in my car, purse, house and I use the clear one to garden in. I’m notorious for plants poking me in the eyes. I also wear them when I mow the yard. They are lightweight, durable, wrap around to the side a bit, and practical. Nothing fancy but I love them!

Good for safety glasses, so so for everything else.
Good safety goggles and the photochromic feature does a good job. The magnifying readers however are very small and I constantly have to raise them off the bridge of my nose to use them. They also fell apart after two years of use but I was able to glue them back together.

These don't fog up at all when I wear a dust mask
These are really anti-fog and they don't fog up at all when I wear a dust mask. The side rubber frames that go over the ears have wire cores so you can bend them any way you want, nice! I got the teal framed ones, however, I was wanting some with tinted mirror lenses that don't fog for when I'm working in the sun and I see the blue-framed glasses with the blue mirror lenses in the product photos in the listing but there is no option to select those. If there were I'd buy several pairs of those.

Comfortable and stylish
I purchased these for running or biking outdoors as I run 3-4 times a week. They are very comfortable and sit easily on my broad flat node bridge. The blue mirrored lenses don't have a blue cast when wearing them and do a great job of cutting back on glare. They sit close to my face which I don't usually like as I prefer to get airflow to my eyes when running but so far, I haven't had any problems with these. I'd buy them again.
