EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5 — WC Safety Review of the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL, a yellow lockout padlock 10-pack.
Editorial assessment by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor, based on published TRADESAFE specifications and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL is a 10-pack of yellow aluminum lockout padlocks with keys for color-coded crew LOTO programs, aligned to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 — each lock isolates an energy point; the set does not replace a written procedure or the verification the standard requires.

Why the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL suits a color-coded crew program

Multi-color lockout programs let a supervisor read a line at a glance — yellow for contractors, another color for in-house maintenance, and so on. The TSKAU10YL supplies that in bulk: ten yellow aluminum padlocks with keys in one economy order, so a whole color-coded group is equipped at once without a premium per-unit cost. As lockout padlocks go, this is the yellow color-coding crew pick, and the lockout/tagout guide and the best padlocks guide put it in context. It equips a color-coded crew in a single box.

Safety first: a lockout padlock isolates hazardous energy, but the lock is only half the job — OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 requires a written energy-control procedure and a verified zero-energy state. After applying locks and tags you must test to confirm a zero-energy condition (the try-out step) before any work begins; a color-coded crew set does not make a program compliant without a documented procedure, authorized-worker training, and verification. Never remove another worker's lock.

What the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL listing documents

From the published specs: ten padlocks with keys; a yellow program color; an aluminum lightweight body; and alignment to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. These are true yellow lockout padlocks 10-pack and LOTO color-coding set credentials as a crew lockout set. Confirm the keying (KA/KD), keys per lock, and shackle on the listing.

How the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL compares to other lockout padlocks

For a red crew set, the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R; for a green single, the Master Lock 410GRN; for a long-shackle keyed-alike padlock, the ABUS 2ALHB; for a red single, the American Lock A1107R; and for an aluminum keyed-different padlock, the Brady SafeKey. The best padlocks guide ranks the field.

Choosing the right lockout hardware

Build the full kit around the padlocks. Browse the lockout padlocks, lockout hasps, cable lockouts, plug lockouts, lockout tags, and lockout stations collections; and read the best kits guide, the OSHA PPE requirements guide, and the NFPA 70E arc-flash guide for electrical energy control.

Where it fits by program and crew orders

The TSKAU10YL suits multi-trade and contractor-heavy sites that color-code lockout by group and need to equip a full yellow-coded team economically — browse the wider lockout/tagout range, and add group group hasps where several workers lock one point. Running a consistent color per group turns a lockout audit into a visual check rather than a paperwork exercise: a supervisor can see at a glance that the contractors on a line are all locked on and that no in-house lock is missing. A single bulk order also keeps the whole group on identical hardware, which simplifies key control and replacement down the line. Confirm the keying, keys per lock, and shackle on the listing, give each worker their own key, and retire any lock whose mechanism no longer works reliably. What OSHA actually requires of a lockout device

Lockout/tagout is governed by OSHA 1910.147, the control of hazardous energy, and the standard is unusually specific about the hardware. Devices must be durable enough for the environment, standardised within the facility by color, shape or size, substantial enough that removal requires excessive force or tools, and identifiable — they must name the worker who applied them.

The rule that catches people out is exclusive use: lockout devices may not be used for anything else. A padlock that also secures a gate or a toolbox is not a compliant lockout device, whatever its build quality. Keyed-different is the norm so no one can remove another worker's lock; keyed-alike sets exist for single-authorised-employee programmes and group lockout boxes, and choosing the wrong keying defeats the point of the standard.

Hardware is the smallest part of compliance. 1910.147 also requires written energy-control procedures, periodic inspection and authorised-employee training.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL?

A 10-pack of yellow aluminum lockout padlocks with keys for color-coded crew lockout/tagout programs, aligned to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147.

Why yellow?

Yellow is one of the most widely assigned LOTO colors in North American programs, commonly designated for construction contractors, general maintenance, or a specific shift or department. Confirm your color scheme.

Who is the 10-pack for?

Facilities equipping a crew or a color-coded group at once - one economy order issues locks to a full team rather than buying singles. Size the count to your crew and isolation points.

How is it keyed?

The set ships with keys; confirm whether it is keyed-alike or keyed-different on the listing. Keyed-different gives each worker a unique key for true personal lockout, which the standard requires.

What is the body made of?

An aluminum body keeps each lock lightweight for daily carry. Confirm the shackle material and dimensions on the listing.

Is it OSHA compliant?

The listing aligns to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. Compliant hardware is one part of a compliant program - you still need a written procedure, training, and verification. Confirm details on the listing.

Can I mix colors across trades?

Yes - run yellow for one trade or shift and another color elsewhere. For red see the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R; for green see the Master Lock 410GRN. Confirm your program's scheme.

What hardware pairs with it?

Pair the padlocks with lockout hasps for group lockout, cable lockouts for awkward points, and tags. A lockout station keeps the kit organized. Confirm compatibility on each listing.

How many locks per worker?

Each authorized worker applies their own lock to each energy source they are exposed to, so a worker on multi-source equipment may carry several. Plan quantity around your isolation points, not just headcount.

How do I care for them?

Keep the shackles and cylinders clean, do not use a damaged lock, and retire any padlock whose key or mechanism no longer works reliably, since a lock that can fail is not acceptable for energy control.

Does buying the set make me compliant?

No - hardware is necessary but not sufficient. Compliance requires a written procedure, authorized-worker training, application of locks and tags, and verification of a zero-energy state before work.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

Convenient locks for tagging out equipment.
These do exactly what they're designed for, at a great price. Keys turn smoothly and locks unlock and relock with no issues. All 10 locks use the same key, which can be convenient for work crews. Happy that they came in yellow, as that's a requirement for contractors at some sites. No complaints.

Need Key to Lock and Unlock
I learned what tagout locks are. Didn't realize these are designed for safety. They are certainly a good quality, open and close easily-with the key. I did not realize key would be needed to relock. Will be useful since I was looking for same keying on my locks, just got to make sure I keep one with me at all times. Good quality metal, guessing they would not be easily cut.

A Perfectly Simple And Practical Solution For Me!
I think I will start off with the disclaimers.1. I do not have the luxury of installing a heavy duty steel safe in my home because I rent.2. I do have a couple firearms but if somebody wants them, they will just steel case and all to be opened later.3. My intention is not to deter or prevent theft, but to slow it down or make it at least difficult for the thief.4. My primary intention is to keep snoopers, children, and nosey relatives out of my business and personal items. So, privacy, safety, and a moderate protection level of my things is the goal.Moving on.Since economy was an underlying factor I chose not to use a dozen $15.00 laminated steel locks to obtain a somewhat moderate level of security with plastic storage cases and chest which could be forced open with simple hand or power tools from anyone's garage and a varying degree of effort and destruction.Keep in mind that I wanted to use the same key on all the locks.I looked at a lot of options and found none better than the TRADESAFE Keyed Alike and Unlimited Padlocks.I could order the quantity I need to start and then add more locks later which would open with the same key. What a perfectly simple and practical system, and oh yeah, they come in red!I know, I know, they're made of plastic, but it's high durability plastic and, , , , some of the cases they're on are plastic too.And that is it.Disclaimer, objective, options, and solution!

They’ll do the job that they’re for.
Decent and smooth locking. Not as high quality as the LOTO by American lock by any means but they will do the same job just as well. Smaller lock body than I thought but it makes no difference. Without being able to see the exterior of the lock body as these are in a plastic shell for electric shielding, you won’t be able to observe corrosion or possible damage. I would not use them for exterior , damp locations or wet weather conditions for that reason. Should be absolutely fine for dry interior LOTO.Arrived before scheduled which is nice.
