EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.5/5 — WC Safety Review of the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R, a red keyed-different lockout padlock 10-pack.
Editorial assessment by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor, based on published TRADESAFE specifications and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The TRADESAFE TS1KD10R is a 10-pack of red aluminum keyed-different lockout padlocks for equipping an entire crew with personal LOTO locks, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 compliant — each lock isolates an energy point; the set does not replace a written procedure or the verification the standard requires.

Why the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R equips a whole crew at once

The lockout/tagout standard is built on personal locks — every authorized worker applies their own lock, opened only by their own key. Buying those one at a time is slow and expensive; the TS1KD10R solves it with ten red aluminum padlocks, keyed-different, in one economy order, so a full maintenance crew gets individually keyed personal locks in a single purchase. As lockout padlocks go, this is the whole-crew value pick, and the lockout/tagout guide and the best padlocks guide put it in context. It issues a personal lock to every worker in one box.

Safety first: a lockout padlock isolates hazardous energy, but the lock is only half the job — OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 requires a written energy-control procedure and a verified zero-energy state. After applying locks and tags you must test to confirm a zero-energy condition (the try-out step) before any work begins; keyed-different locks and a full crew set do not make a program compliant without a documented procedure, authorized-worker training, and verification. Never remove another worker's lock.

What the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R listing documents

From the published specs: ten padlocks in one pack; a red universal-warning safety color; keyed-different operation (unique key per lock); an aluminum lightweight body; and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 alignment. These are true red lockout padlocks 10-pack and keyed-different LOTO padlocks credentials as a crew lockout set. Confirm the keying, keys per lock, and shackle on the listing.

How the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R compares to other lockout padlocks

For a green color-coded single padlock, the Master Lock 410GRN; for a yellow crew set, the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL; for a long-shackle keyed-alike padlock, the ABUS 2ALHB; for a red single, the American Lock A1107R; and for an aluminum keyed-different padlock, the Brady SafeKey. The best padlocks guide ranks the field.

Choosing the right lockout hardware

Build the full kit around the padlocks. Browse the lockout padlocks, lockout hasps, cable lockouts, plug lockouts, lockout tags, and lockout stations collections; and read the best kits guide, the OSHA PPE requirements guide, and the NFPA 70E arc-flash guide for electrical energy control.

Where it fits by program and crew orders

The TS1KD10R suits any facility standing up or refreshing a lockout program that needs to issue a personal lock to every authorized worker at a sensible per-unit cost — browse the wider lockout/tagout range, and add group group hasps where several workers must lock a single point. A single-color crew set also doubles as color-coding when you run different colors per trade or shift. Confirm the keying, keys per lock, and shackle on the listing, give each worker their own key, and retire any lock whose mechanism no longer works reliably. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

What OSHA actually requires of a lockout device

Lockout/tagout is governed by OSHA 1910.147, the control of hazardous energy, and the standard is unusually specific about the hardware. Devices must be durable enough for the environment, standardised within the facility by color, shape or size, substantial enough that removal requires excessive force or tools, and identifiable — they must name the worker who applied them.

The rule that catches people out is exclusive use: lockout devices may not be used for anything else. A padlock that also secures a gate or a toolbox is not a compliant lockout device, whatever its build quality. Keyed-different is the norm so no one can remove another worker's lock; keyed-alike sets exist for single-authorised-employee programmes and group lockout boxes, and choosing the wrong keying defeats the point of the standard.

Hardware is the smallest part of compliance. 1910.147 also requires written energy-control procedures, periodic inspection and authorised-employee training.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TRADESAFE TS1KD10R?

A 10-pack of red aluminum keyed-different lockout padlocks for equipping an entire crew with personal LOTO locks, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 compliant.

What does keyed-different mean?

Each of the ten locks has its own unique key, so no worker can open another worker's lock. That satisfies the personal-protection principle at the core of the lockout/tagout standard.

Why red?

Red is the universal LOTO warning color and the most commonly specified safety padlock color in North American industry, so a red lock reads as a lockout to anyone. Confirm the color on the listing.

Who is the 10-pack for?

Facilities equipping a full maintenance crew at once - one economy order issues a personal lock to each authorized worker rather than buying singles. Size the count to your crew and isolation points.

What is the body made of?

An aluminum body keeps each lock lightweight for daily carry and field use. Confirm the shackle material and dimensions on the listing.

Is it OSHA compliant?

The listing states OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 compliance. Compliant hardware is one part of a compliant program - you still need a written procedure, training, and verification. Confirm details on the listing.

Can I use it for color-coding?

Yes - issue red to one trade or crew and another color to another. For a green option see the Master Lock 410GRN; for yellow see the TRADESAFE TSKAU10YL. Confirm your program's scheme.

Are the keys retained?

Confirm the number of keys per lock and whether spares are included on the listing; some programs keep a controlled master or spare-key policy for supervisors.

What hardware pairs with it?

Pair the padlocks with lockout hasps for group lockout, cable lockouts for awkward points, and tags. A lockout station keeps the kit organized. Confirm compatibility on each listing.

How do I care for them?

Keep the shackles and cylinders clean, do not use a damaged lock, and retire any padlock whose key or mechanism no longer works reliably, since a lock that can fail is not acceptable for energy control.

Does buying the set make me compliant?

No - hardware is necessary but not sufficient. Compliance requires a written procedure, authorized-worker training, application of locks and tags, and verification of a zero-energy state before work.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

Better than the Masterlock 410
I am very pleased with these locks. First, you should know that I use these to practicing lockpicking, not for their intended LOTO function. But for locksporting, these are great. The build quality is quite nice overall. Just as the ABUS 71/40, these can be disassembled non-destructively. The core is installed very securely and unlike the Masterlock 410, it doesn't jiggle around. Also unlike the 410, it has a flat bottom and can stand up on its own.The keyway is far easier to access than either the Masterlock 410 or Abus 71/40. Don't let that fool you though, these are still a challenge to pick. Tensioning from the top is a bit tricky due to the width and close proximity of the first pin. It can certainly be done, but the wrench tends to slip out easily. I haven't yet disassembled any of these, but I am certain there are some spools. I didn't feel any serrated pins, but I'm unsure of that. Just like the 410 and 71/40, these locks have 6 pins. I included a picture of the keys in the set I received. One in particular is very nasty and I have yet to successfully pick that guy. It will probably be a good long while before I open up number 02135 without a key.I like that these are available in different colors. It is nice to differentiate between my other locks. The pictures that I took don't show it, but these did have a sticker on both sides. One side is like it's shown in the listing's picture, the "locked out, do not remove" stuff. The other side has four lines where you could write stuff on them, and a "property of" at the top. Each lock and corresponding key both have the same unique number printed on them to make keeping track of everything easier. One thing to note however, the number on the lock body is laser printed. The listing's pictures make it appear as though the number is physically cut into the plastic. It's not a big deal to me as the picture does indeed say it's printed on. And it seems to be durable enough to hold up. Scratching at it doesn't really affect it.

Not Heavy Duty
These should not be considered Heavy DutyYeah either it’s the key or the metal part of the lock comes completely offThese would be ok for minor use, but these guys use their locks multiple times a day

★★★★☆
Decent locks at a good price.
I bought these for shutdown work at and industrial plant and for the price they seem pretty decent. These are shown as being yellow which is required for contractors where we are working and the locks that were sent are blue. Not a big issue because we can wrap them with yellow tape but if it shown as being yellow they should be able to expect yellow. That being said the quality looks good and the number stamp on the keys is bold enough that by old eyes can read it which is good. Time will tell but they seem to be good quality for the money.
