Honeywell North RU6500 Full Face Respirator Overview

The Honeywell North RU6500 Full Face Respirator (SKU RU65002) uses an industrial mesh/nylon 4-point headnet, distinct from the 5-point strap harness on the sibling RU65001. As Honeywell North RU65002 mesh headnet respirator equipment, it's designed to be worn comfortably under a hard hat.

Safety note: this listing is the facepiece - cartridges and filters that determine your actual NIOSH approval number and hazard protection are typically sold separately and must be matched to your specific exposure. This North RU6500 hard hat compatible respirator is not rated for chemical splash hazard exposure by the facepiece alone; pair it with appropriate garments if splash risk is present. As a tight-fitting full facepiece respirator, it requires an initial and periodic fit test per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 to confirm a proper facial seal before relying on its rated protection factor.

As the RU6500 series full facepiece silicone design, it features a silicone facepiece and nose cup, a polycarbonate lens meeting ANSI Z87 for high impact, and a threaded cartridge connector. This Honeywell North full face respirator APF 50 carries the standard OSHA Assigned Protection Factor for tight-fitting full facepiece respirators. See our RU65002 vs RU65001 headnet vs strap comparison below, and check our best Honeywell North full face respirators guide for how it stacks up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the RU65002 and RU65001?

The RU65002 uses an industrial mesh/nylon 4-point headnet designed to be worn under a hard hat. The RU65001 uses a 5-point strap harness instead. Both share the same silicone facepiece, lens, and cartridge connector - the head harness system is the main difference.

What is the Assigned Protection Factor (APF)?

As a tight-fitting full facepiece respirator, it carries the standard OSHA Assigned Protection Factor of 50. This applies to the complete assembled respirator with the correct cartridge or filter attached, not the bare facepiece alone.

Does this listing include cartridges or filters?

This listing is the facepiece. Cartridges and filters that determine your actual hazard protection and NIOSH approval number are typically sold separately - match them to your specific exposure before use.

What is the facepiece made of?

A silicone full facepiece with a silicone nose cup for facial seal and comfort, paired with a polycarbonate lens rated to meet ANSI Z87 for high-velocity impact protection.

Can I wear a hard hat with this respirator?

Yes. The mesh/nylon headnet design on the RU65002 is specifically intended to accommodate a hard hat worn over it, unlike a 5-point strap harness design that can be less compatible with certain hard hat styles.

Can this facepiece be used with a PAPR or supplied-air system?

Yes. The facepiece is adaptable to side-mount or front-mount CF-SAR (constant-flow supplied air) and PAPR configurations without requiring separate fit testing for each configuration. Confirm exact adapter and system compatibility before assembling a complete setup.

What sizes are available?

This listing covers the RU65002 in Small, Medium, and Large. Confirm your exact size using Honeywell's fit guidance before ordering, since a proper seal is essential for a tight-fitting respirator's rated protection factor.

How does the threaded cartridge connector work?

It secures cartridges and filters onto the facepiece with a threaded connection designed to prevent accidental disconnection during use, compared to simpler push-fit designs.

Do I need a fit test to use this respirator?

Yes. As a tight-fitting full facepiece respirator, it requires an initial and periodic fit test per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 to confirm a proper seal for your specific face shape.

What maintenance does the facepiece need?

Inspect the silicone seal, straps or headnet, lens, and cartridge connector before each use for cracks, tears, or damage, clean per Honeywell's guidance after use, and replace any worn components that could compromise the seal.

Can I use this for chemical splash protection?

The full facepiece and polycarbonate lens provide eye and face impact protection per ANSI Z87, but chemical splash protection depends on your complete PPE ensemble, not the respirator facepiece alone - pair it with appropriate chemical-resistant garments if splash exposure is a concern. See our OSHA respiratory protection reference for the full regulatory scope.

How is this different from the Honeywell North 5400 or 7600 series?

The 5400 and 7600 series are different Honeywell North full-face respirator lines with their own distinct features and price points. Compare specifications directly rather than assuming they share identical components with the RU6500 series. See our Honeywell North vs 3M respirators guide for cross-brand context.

The straps aren’t holding up!
COVID-19 nurse here. I have worn this same brand supplied by the hospital and decided to get my own. It is comfortable and seals well. I have no complaints there. I have had this mask for 23 days and have only had to wear it a dozen times or so. I only clean it with VeraSure Alcohol free disinfectant wipes but the straps are already breaking down. 30 second dwell time and this is the product recommended by the hospital for use in cleaning their masks of the same type.
