Class determines the voltage

ASTM D120 classes run 00, 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, each with a defined maximum use voltage. The class must be selected for the actual exposure.

Retest interval

Insulating gloves must be electrically retested at defined intervals - and gloves that have been issued for service have a shorter permitted interval than gloves in storage.

Leather protectors

Rubber insulating gloves are worn with leather protectors over them. The rubber provides the insulation; the leather protects the rubber from the mechanical damage that would destroy it.

Air test before each use

An air (inflation) test before each use catches pinholes and cuts that are invisible. It takes seconds and is the last line of defense.

How often must insulating gloves be tested?

Why do I need leather protectors?

The rubber does the insulating and is easily damaged by abrasion, cuts and punctures. Leather protectors take that damage instead, preserving the dielectric integrity.

What is the air test?

Rolling or inflating the glove to pressurize it and checking for escaping air, which reveals pinholes and cuts. It is performed before each use.

When should insulating gloves be removed from service?

Immediately on any hole, tear, cut, embedded object, swelling, texture change, ozone cutting or chemical damage - or if the retest date has passed.
