The top-of-line fall arrest harness — 3M DBI-SALA ExoFit X300

A fall arrest harness at the top of the range spares no comfort, and the 3M DBI-SALA ExoFit X300 Comfort Vest is exactly that: lightweight aluminum hardware, auto-locking quick-connect buckles on the chest and legs, an automatic stand-up aluminum back D-ring, and reflective 3M Scotchlite panels. It carries 6,000 lb webbing, back and leg comfort padding, and an SRL adapter, rated to 420 lb and built to ANSI Z359.11. It is the ExoFit flagship for general-purpose fall arrest — the harness for crews who wear one all day and refuse to compromise.

What the X300 Comfort Vest is for

All-day, all-conditions general fall arrest for workers who prioritize comfort and speed — general industry, utilities, inspection, and aerial work, including low-light jobs where the reflective panels help. It sits in the full body harnesses collection, is the B (body wear) in the ABC system explained in the fall protection equipment guide and the ABCDs of fall protection, and applies wherever a fall hazard triggers the rules in when is fall protection required.

Building the system around the harness

The SRL adapter takes a self-retracting lifeline quickly, or connect the aluminum back D-ring to a rated lanyard from the lanyards collection — the best fall protection lanyards guide ranks them — then to an anchor from the anchor points collection sized to the anchor strength requirements and ranked in the best roof anchors guide, joined with a rated carabiner. Inspect the harness to the harness inspection checklist, and fit a suspension trauma strap for the rescue plan.

How the X300 compares

Below it, the ExoFit X200 trades aluminum for alloy steel and auto-locking for dual-locking buckles, and the ExoFit X100 uses pass-through buckles at the entry tier; the DBI-SALA Delta and value Protecta First are simpler still. For positioning rather than straight fall arrest, see the ExoFit X200 Construction. Browse the range in the harness collection or build a complete rig from the best fall protection kits. Everything lives in the fall protection collection.

Safety note: a harness is one part of a personal fall arrest system — it protects you only with a rated lanyard, SRL, or lifeline, a rated anchor, and a connector, under OSHA 1926.502. This vest uses a back D-ring for fall arrest and has no positioning D-rings, so do not use it for positioning. Set the torso adapters so the dorsal D-ring sits between the shoulder blades, run the clearance math for your connecting device, and retire the harness after any fall or any sign of webbing, padding, or hardware damage.

Ordering FAQ

Is the 3M DBI-SALA ExoFit X300 Comfort Vest harness in stock and ready to ship?
This listing is active and ships through Amazon. Select your size; the linked Amazon listing carries live price and delivery.

What makes the X300 the top of the ExoFit line?
Lightweight aluminum hardware, auto-locking quick-connect buckles on both the chest and legs, an automatic stand-up aluminum back D-ring, and reflective 3M Scotchlite panels — the fullest set of the ExoFit features.

What are auto-locking quick-connect buckles?
Buckles that snap together and lock automatically, holding their setting so they do not slide or need re-adjustment. They are faster and more secure than the dual-locking buckles on the X200 or the pass-through buckles on the X100.

What is the aluminum hardware benefit?
Aluminum D-rings and hardware cut weight versus steel, so the harness is lighter to wear over a long shift while keeping the strength rating.

What is the automatic stand-up back D-ring?
An aluminum dorsal D-ring held upright on an anti-slide pad so it stays standing behind your shoulders — you reach back and clip in on the first try instead of fishing for it.

What are the reflective panels?
Integrated 3M Scotchlite reflective panels that improve the wearer’s visibility in low light — useful for roadway, night, and low-visibility work.

What is the weight capacity and what standards does it meet?
It is rated to 420 lb and meets ANSI Z359.11, OSHA 1910.140, and OSHA 1926.502.

Does it have positioning D-rings?
No — this X300 comfort vest is general purpose with a back D-ring only, for fall arrest. The X300 construction/positioning and climbing models are separate configurations with hip or front D-rings.

Does it have an SRL adapter?
Yes — the anti-slide back D-ring area provides a location to connect a personal self-retracting lifeline. There is also back and leg comfort padding.

What sizes does it come in?
Sized rather than one-size — S, M, L, and XL. Match the size to the wearer; the padding is removable for washing on this line.

Can I use it for rock or tree climbing?
No — 3M labels this an industrial/occupational fall-protection product. It is not intended for recreational or sporting climbing.

How do I inspect the harness before use?
Check the webbing for cuts, fraying, burns, and chemical damage; the stitching for pulled threads; the aluminum D-ring, SRL area, and buckles for cracks, corrosion, and correct function; and the padding and reflective panels for wear. Remove it from service after any fall or if any part is damaged.

How do I reorder for a crew?
Reorder from this page — the linked Amazon listing makes equipping each worker in the right size quick.

Safety first not the price
Fits great very comfortable easy to adjust when you have to layer up for the cold and then shed clothing as the day warms up And readjust it’s really a great harness the only downside would be it’s not Kevlar/nomax so if your welding or cutting with a torch it could be it’s last day on the job

DBI Sala -- a superior product.
The pads are very comfortable. The straps adjust very easily. You can get into this harness in 5 seconds compared to some other non-brands which can take 2 - 3 mins of finding which leg goes into which hole. I recommend this product to anyone who does a lot a aerial work like myself (bridge inspections using snoopers, truck mounted lifts and all-terrain lifts).

Best harness money can buy
It’s the best fitting harness I’ve ever used, I wear them as much as ten hours a shift and it like not having one on. Easy to get on and off and it’s pretty light as safety harnesses goI’m real glad I finally bought one for myself.

Good Stuff
I'm an API inspector for the refineries and it's perfect for my line of work. Its easy and quick to put on and take of and I like that you can remove the padding and wash it. I also like that the D-Ring has a spring that keeps it pointed up. It makes it really easy to put on or remove the lanyard yourself. Goes great with the falltech elastech Y lanyard.

It's THE harness when your life is hanging in the balance
Bought this for my iron worker son in law who hangs off the edges of skyscrapers he builds in NYC. It was at his request. And he knows what's best.
