WC Safety Editorial Pick: SWIFTLITE is WC Safety's ultralight pick for tasks where maximum dexterity and the closest-to-bare-hand feel is the priority—AMMEX's thinnest black nitrile at ~3 mil for inspection, electronics, and high-sensitivity detail work.

For a full performance breakdown, sizing analysis, and comparison against alternatives, see our AMMEX SWIFTLITE Black Nitrile Disposable Gloves (~3 mil) in-depth review published by the WC Safety editorial team.

AMMEX SWIFTLITE at ~3 mil is the thinnest black nitrile in the WC Safety collection—designed for applications where conventional glove thickness would impair the operator's ability to perform the task. At this gauge, glove contamination protection is a secondary benefit to the primary function: allowing the operator to work with maximum tactile sensitivity while providing a latex-free, powder-free barrier.

Semiconductor and precision electronics inspection, medical device assembly, dental lab work, jewelry work, optical component handling, and any application where the task cannot be performed effectively with conventional-gauge gloves. SWIFTLITE is not designed for tasks with puncture or chemical exposure risk—it is optimized purely for tactile performance.

Compatibility and Application

~3 mil is not designed for industrial chemical or puncture exposure. For any task with chemical exposure risk, step up to at minimum SwiftGrip (~4 mil) or GLOVEWORKS Black (5 mil). SWIFTLITE is the right choice only when maximum dexterity is the primary criterion and chemical/puncture risk is low. For a broader selection, browse the complete nitrile gloves collection at WC Safety, organized by thickness, brand, and intended use.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • ~3 mil ultralight—the thinnest black nitrile in the collection, for maximum dexterity and close-to-bare-hand feel
  • AMMEX manufacturing quality for consistent batch quality even at this thin gauge
  • Latex-free, powder-free barrier for tasks requiring contamination control without sacrificing dexterity
  • 100 per box for high-change-rate operations where thin-gauge gloves are consumed quickly

Cons

  • ~3 mil provides minimal protection against sharp edges, puncture risks, or chemical exposure
  • Thin gauge is consumed more quickly in tasks with any abrasion—not economical for extended rough-surface work

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ~3 mil thin enough to compromise barrier protection?

At 3 mil, SWIFTLITE maintains ASTM D6319 exam-grade barrier certification for chemical and biological contamination under standard exam conditions. It is thinner than standard industrial options and not designed for tasks with puncture or abrasion risk, but the barrier is intact for contamination control under its tested conditions.

Can I order SWIFTLITE by the case?

Yes. Cases are available through Amazon. Check the listing for current case quantities.

What sizes are available?

S, M, L, XL. Confirm availability at time of order.

Can SWIFTLITE be used for dental procedures?

Yes. 3 mil nitrile provides the closest-to-bare-hand feel for exploratory clinical procedures where maximum tactile sensitivity is the priority. For extended procedures with mechanical stress, a slightly thicker option may provide better durability.

Is SWIFTLITE appropriate for food handling?

Yes—nitrile, powder-free, latex-free exam-rated barrier. Black is non-standard for food-service color coding in many jurisdictions; verify with your local authority.

Can I use SWIFTLITE for semiconductor handling?

Yes. Thin-gauge nitrile is used in semiconductor and PCB inspection. Verify ESD-compatibility requirements for your specific component type—nitrile is not inherently ESD-safe.

Does 3 mil tear more easily than 5 mil?

Yes. Thinner gauge is more susceptible to tearing on sharp edges, rough surfaces, or mechanical stress. SWIFTLITE is designed for smooth-contact tasks where contamination control is the goal.

How does SWIFTLITE compare to SwiftGrip in donning feel?

SWIFTLITE feels lighter and more hand-conforming than SwiftGrip at ~3 mil versus ~4 mil. The 1 mil difference is noticeable at this thin gauge—more so than a 1 mil difference at 5–7 mil.

What is the shelf life?

Three to five years in cool, dry storage.

Can SWIFTLITE be used for painting miniatures or model work?

Yes. Ultralight nitrile is used by hobbyists for model painting and miniature work where bare-hand dexterity is required. The barrier also protects skin from paint pigments and primers.

Can these be used for contact lens handling?

Powder-free nitrile is appropriate for contact lens handling—no powder to contaminate the lens. Wash hands after gloving before handling lenses to eliminate surface residue.

Are there any applications where SWIFTLITE should NOT be used?

Any task with sharp-edge puncture risk, sustained chemical exposure, or mechanical abrasion that exceeds what a 3 mil barrier can withstand. For those tasks, step up in gauge accordingly.

I love having these in the house
I don’t even use these to clean. They’re my go to gloves for cooking - between marinating and mixing and putting things on the flat top and cutting and combining, these gloves are perfect. It allows me to not contaminate food while being able to dispose of them after a good use. They’re easy to wear, true to size, comfortable, and the material is durable. They do not feel cheap. I will purchase again.

Great gloves. Doesn't break easily. Very good for chemicals. Men should buy XL.
These are very good gloves that are made well. They don't break easily. The size is good. If you are a man with regualr sized hangs you want the XL. The large does fit me, but it's way too tight. I just have normal sized hands. These work well with chemicals. The are easy to put on and off. They work effectively for cooking, working on the car, cleaning, and any task that you don't want to either get dirty or for chemicals to get on your skin. I like them a lot. I am saying it is a good value for they money too when compared to other options. I will continue to buy these. 5 stars!

Don’t be silly, wrap your hands
The biggest strength is convenience and versatility. They’re thin enough to maintain good finger dexterity, which makes tasks like chopping, mixing, or handling messy ingredients much easier than switching between washing hands constantly. The textured fingertips also help with grip when dealing with wet or oily foods, which is especially useful during cooking or cleanup. In real use, they feel lightweight and comfortable for short to moderate kitchen sessions. The nitrile material is latex-free, which is helpful if you have sensitivities, and they don’t have the powdery residue you sometimes get with cheaper disposable gloves. For food prep, they’re generally considered safe and widely used in home and commercial kitchens for hygiene and cross-contamination control.Where they fall short is durability under stress. They’re designed for light-duty use, so they can tear if stretched too aggressively or used around sharp edges (like bones or packaging staples). They also aren’t ideal for long continuous wear since thinner nitrile can start to feel warm or slightly restrictive over time.Fit can also vary depending on hand size if you size too small, they can rip more easily, and if too large, you lose some dexterity.Pros: food-safe and latex-free, good tactile sensitivity, textured grip for wet/oily tasks, comfortable for short kitchen use, powder-free clean feelCons: thin material can tear under stress, not ideal for heavy-duty cleaning or sharp handling, fit-sensitive, not meant for long continuous wearOverall: a solid everyday disposable glove for cooking and light cleaning, offering a good balance of hygiene and dexterity, but best used as a light-duty kitchen tool rather than a heavy-duty protective glove.

Thin, comfortable, durable.
I had to wear gloves due to an ointment needed for my hands. These are thin, comfortable and durable. Because they are so thin I had my doubts, but they lasted longer than other gloves I had been using that were thicker. They would be worn from before bedtime and through the night. Sometimes through washing dishes, or folding clothes. Wearing them through the day, they would last for hours, even surviving hand washes.

Practical and Durable
These disposable nitrile gloves are a good option. They are latex-free and powder-free, making them suitable for food prep, cooking, and cleaning. They feel durable, don’t tear easily, and allow good hand movement. The fit may vary depending on hand size, but overall they do the job well. Recommended.

Perfect gloves for CLEANING!!!!
Bought these and love them!! I like how they actually work like no holes yet. I use for cleaning base boards, bathroom, scrubbing shower etc. They do feel thin. But they do work. I would definitely buy again and recommend to a friend.

Great Gloves
Best gloves ever, the quality the price and if you didn't know 5 mil is good for barrier between any unintentional contact with certain substances. I learned this while working in the Airport during a time when emergency responders were facing overdoses due to contact with substances. Our gloves were immediately switched out to those 5mil gloves. So I never buy anything thinner than these because I rather be safe than sorry. I'm still buying gloves to safely pump my gas. So these gloves are my absolute ride partner I keep them in my vehicle and in the home just to clean up without worrying about my hands getting dirty.

Worth your hard earned bucks!
As a treat maker, I really do like these gloves! At first, I was kinda skeptical, why? Because I wasn’t sure how the quality was. I most definitely can say they exceeded my expectations on what great cooking gloves are! Not too thin, fit just right (even with my husband’s hands), they don’t have any powder substance on them you know that one texture you feel when gloves just are feeling little extra rubbery well these don’t have that and I’m very pleased about that!! Will be adding this to my purchases more often.
