nocry clear safety glasses anti-fog wrap-around — what the listing actually specifies
What to check before you buy
Impact protection and splash protection are different tests. ANSI Z87.1 rates spectacles for impact, but only a device marked for splash (D3) is evaluated against a chemical splash hazard; safety glasses with open sides do not qualify, and a face shield is a secondary protector worn over primary eye protection rather than instead of it.
- Z87 versus Z87+
- The Z87 marking means the product meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1. The plus sign indicates it passed the high-impact test. Both the lens and the frame carry markings.
- Lens tint against the environment
- Clear is for indoor and low light, gray for bright sun without color distortion, amber for contrast in low light. Tinted lenses indoors are a hazard, not a preference.
- Anti-fog is a real specification
- Fogged lenses get removed, and removed glasses protect nothing. Anti-fog coatings vary widely and wear out with cleaning.
- Coverage and fit
- Wrap-around designs address the side entry path that flat lenses leave open. Gaps at the temple and brow are where particles get in.
