MSA Advantage N95 Cover Overview
The MSA Advantage N95 Cover is a reusable snap-on cover for the MSA Advantage system. It secures N95 prefilter discs against an Advantage cartridge, so you replace the inexpensive discs and keep the cover. Start with our filter types explained guide and confirm your system in Comfo vs Advantage; the cover only fits Advantage facepieces.
As an MSA Advantage accessory the MSA Advantage N95 Cover belongs to the MSA respirator filters and cartridges range. Pair it with N95 prefilter discs and an Advantage gas cartridge such as the Advantage GMA.
Where the MSA Advantage N95 Cover Fits
The MSA Advantage N95 Cover is a holder, not a filter. It carries the N95 disc in front of a gas cartridge so dust is captured before it loads the cartridge. For a built-in particulate option instead, the Advantage GMA/P100 cartridge needs no cover.
What the Cover Does & Does Not Do
| Hazard | Fit | Buyer guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Holds a N95 prefilter disc | Yes | Reusable; discs change underneath. |
| Captures particulate by itself | No | The disc is the filter media. |
| Protects against gases | No | Use an MSA Advantage gas cartridge. |
What the Cover Does NOT Replace
The MSA Advantage N95 Cover is not a respirator, filter or cartridge. You still need N95 prefilter discs and a gas cartridge or P100 filter for the actual protection; for a full particulate filter see the Advantage P100 filter.
No air-purifying cartridge makes a dangerous atmosphere safe. Never use the MSA Advantage N95 Cover in an oxygen-deficient or IDLH (immediately dangerous to life or health) atmosphere, in unknown concentrations, or against gases with no warning properties β those conditions require a supplied-air or SCBA system, not a cartridge respirator. A cartridge or filter carries no assigned protection factor of its own β the APF comes from the facepiece it is fitted to: 10 for a half mask, 50 for a full facepiece (OSHA 1910.134 Table 1), which is the number that decides the highest exposure the respirator may legally be worn in. That facepiece must be fit tested before first use and at least annually, and a fit test is specific to one make, model, and size β passing on one mask does not carry over to another. Perform a user seal check every time the respirator is donned, and note that facial hair crossing the sealing surface disqualifies a tight-fitting respirator no matter how well it fit at the last test.
Best Applications
Crews running prefilter discs
Where dusty work loads prefilters fast, a reusable cover plus cheap N95 discs is the lowest-cost way to keep cartridges clean.
Pairing with an Advantage gas cartridge
Snap the cover with a disc onto an Advantage cartridge such as the Advantage GMB acid gas to add particulate protection.
Pros & Cons
reusable β only the discs are consumed Β· lowest-cost particulate route Β· genuine MSA Advantage fit Β· simple snap-on change
not a filter or respirator by itself Β· discs sold separately Β· Advantage fit only
MSA Advantage N95 Cover vs Other MSA Particulate Options
| Cartridge | Protects against |
|---|---|
| Advantage N95 disc | Filter media (consumable) |
| Advantage P100 filter | Full P100 filter |
| Advantage GMA/P100 | OV + P100 combo |
MSA Advantage N95 Cover vs the Alternatives
How it compares to the closest MSA options:
- Cover vs the prefilter disc: the disc is the filter media (consumable); the cover is the reusable holder β you need both.
- Cover + disc vs Advantage P100 filter: the P100 filter is a higher-efficiency replaceable unit; cover + N95 disc is the cheaper, lower-class route.
- Cover route vs GMA/P100: the combo cartridge needs no cover or disc, but costs more per cartridge.

How this is approved, and what the approval covers
Respiratory protection in the US is approved by NIOSH under 42 CFR Part 84, and used under OSHA 1910.134, which requires a written program, medical evaluation, training and fit testing wherever a respirator is required.
The point that matters for a component or accessory: a NIOSH approval attaches to an assembled configuration, not to a part in isolation. A cover, guard or filter carries the approval only in the combinations listed on the manufacturer's approval label. Mixing parts across brands, or across series within a brand, voids the approval even where the parts physically fit β which they often do. Check the approval label for the exact assembly before ordering.
