EDITORIAL REVIEW: 5.0/5WC Safety Review β€” Moldex 6940 Glide Cordless Earplugs

Best For: corded reusable flanged hearing protection at NRR 30 dB in a low-profile uncorded design.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a practical reusable flanged plug at NRR 30 dB β€” the uncorded low-profile fit suits tight spaces and high-volume single-use.

Moldex 6940 Glide Cordless Earplugs Overview

The Moldex 6940 Glide Cordless Earplugs are cordless reusable flanged ear plugs from Moldex, rated NRR 30 dB. With no cord to catch or snag, they keep a low profile for tight and confined spaces β€” the most economical choice for high-volume single-use. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Moldex 6940 Glide belong to the cordless ear plugs range and the NRR 30 ear plugs group. They are reusable and washable across many shifts; for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 30 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 30 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~83 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~88 dBA after derating Good fit
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~78 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Moldex 6940 Glide?

Buy them if you want reusable flanged hearing protection in a low-profile uncorded design at NRR 30 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare 6430 Alphas, 6450 Jetz, 6598 BattlePlugs. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Moldex 6940 Glide reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Best Applications

Industrial & construction noise

Power tools, plants and construction work at sustained high noise suit a low-profile uncorded NRR 30 plug that won’t snag in tight spaces.

Shooting & range use

For range and shooting use, pair a high NRR with muffs for impulse noise.

How do I insert the Moldex 6940 Glide?

To fit them, push the pre-molded flanges gently into the canal until sealed; no rolling needed. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I buy the Moldex 6940 Glide in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Best ear plugs I've found!
So much better than the orange ones you squeeze/roll with your fingers and then quickly put in and hold while it expands. These go in and out more easily, stay rock solid, significantly reduce sound, and are cheap enough to be disposable but you can certainly reuse them because they are very high quality. I've tried every kind and these are the best. They work as well as over-the-ear kind, but your head doesn't get hot, they don't get in the way and get bumped. Just great.

Shhh! Can't Hear!
These are very comfortable, they block noise well. We use them for yardwork, at the range, at work. We like not having the little line, because it gets hung up on glasses, face mask, etc. Buying them in bulk is convenient, and affordable.

They work great, but can give you a rug burn when trying to get them in.Edit: 12/2021These are just the best. I've tried so many in the last 5 years and these are my favorite.

Outstanding Product
As an avid target shooter I have tried just about every foam ear plug on the market. I was recently given a pair of these to try (I'm a construction safety consultant) and these ear plugs just plain WORK. With most foam ear plugs you have to compress them with your fingers, use your off hand to pull your ear back, insert them, and wait for the foam to expand. The Moldex ear plugs have a hard plastic piece that you simply grasp with your fingers and gently twist them into place in your ear. The best part is they immediately block noise and you don't have to wait for the foam to expand for the hearing protection to work. And they are made in America and have a noise reduction rating (NRR) of 30 decibels. I have never written a product review before but this is such a great product that I had to share my endorsement.
