The MCR Safety Law OG1 OTG is purpose-built for workers who wear prescription eyeglasses on the job. Its widened frame cavity and extended temple arms fit over most standard prescription frames while maintaining ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ compliance — no contact lenses, no prescription safety glasses, and no safety hazard from removing PPE to read labels or see fine detail. Both available variants include UV Anti-Fog coating, since fogging is amplified in OTG designs by the trapped air volume between the prescription lenses and the safety lens. For OTG with Hi-Vis frame options or additional coating tiers, see the Klondike OG2 OTG; for a non-OTG clear anti-fog option, see the BearKat BK1.

Key Features

  • Fits over most standard prescription eyeglass frames: The Law OG1's extended interior cavity accommodates typical rectangular and oval prescription frames up to approximately 140mm wide — workers verify fit with their own frames before deployment in safety-critical tasks.
  • UV Anti-Fog on both variants: OTG designs trap more air volume between the prescription lens and the safety lens than standard safety glasses, which amplifies fogging. Both OG1 variants ship with UV Anti-Fog coating to address this inherent OTG fogging tendency.
  • ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ High Impact: Certified for high-velocity impact over prescription frames — the entire assembly (OTG safety glasses over prescription eyewear) meets the impact standard required by OSHA 1910.133 for industrial eye protection.
  • Economy $9.99 price point: The Law OG1 is MCR's entry OTG model, providing a compliant prescription-compatible solution without the cost of prescription safety glasses, which typically range from $150–$500 with a corrective prescription.
  • Clear and Gray tint options: Clear for indoor/low-light environments; Gray for outdoor or bright overhead lighting conditions.
  • Polycarbonate lens with UV400: Blocks 99.9% of UVA and UVB — relevant for outdoor workers whose prescription glasses may not provide UV protection depending on their lens material and coating.

Applications

  • Prescription eyeglass wearers in manufacturing: Workers on assembly lines, CNC operations, or quality inspection who cannot interrupt work to switch between prescription glasses and safety glasses — the OG1 provides compliant impact protection over existing prescription eyewear.
  • Construction and trades: Electricians, plumbers, and carpenters who wear prescription glasses and move between indoor rough-in work (clear lens) and outdoor material staging (gray lens) can carry both OG1 variants economically.
  • Laboratory and chemical handling: Researchers and technicians with corrective lenses who need eye protection during chemical handling — the OG1's anti-fog coating reduces the lens fogging common in lab coat environments with temperature variation.
  • Visitor and contractor programs: Safety managers stocking OTG glasses for visitor use — the $9.99 price allows maintaining inventory for guests who arrive with prescription eyewear.
  • Maintenance and inspection roles: Workers who perform close visual inspection tasks requiring their prescription lenses for accuracy, but who handle tools, fasteners, or equipment that creates flying debris risk.

ANSI Z87.1 Compliance

The MCR Law OG1 OTG carries ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ High Impact certification — the standard required for occupational eye protection under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 (general industry) and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.102 (construction). The Z87.1+ high-velocity rating confirms the polycarbonate lens withstands a 1/4-inch steel ball at 150 fps without fracture or excessive deformation.

Polycarbonate inherently provides UV protection blocking 99.9% of UVA/UVB radiation. Employers must conduct a hazard assessment under OSHA 1910.132(d) and provide ANSI Z87.1-compliant eye protection when flying particles, chemical splash, dust, or radiation hazards are present. These glasses satisfy that requirement for impact, UV, and optical distortion across all Z87.1 categories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my prescription glasses will fit inside the OG1?

The Law OG1 OTG accommodates most standard-width adult prescription frames up to approximately 140mm total frame width. The best verification method is to physically try the OTG glasses over your prescription frames before use in a safety-critical environment. If the fit feels tight or the OTG temples press uncomfortably against your prescription temples, the Klondike OG2 OTG has a slightly larger cavity and may accommodate wider frames.

Why do both OG1 variants include anti-fog — can I get them without it?

No — both OG1 variants ship with UV Anti-Fog coating, and there is no non-coated OTG option in this series. MCR designs OTG glasses with anti-fog standard because the enclosed air space between prescription lenses and the safety lens creates significantly more fogging than standard safety glasses. Providing anti-fog on all OTG variants reduces the safety hazard of impaired vision from fogging in the enclosed frame cavity.

Is it OSHA-compliant to wear OTG safety glasses over prescription glasses?

Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133(b)(2) and 1926.102 permit the use of safety glasses worn over prescription frames as a compliant method of providing eye protection, provided the safety eyewear carries ANSI Z87.1 certification. The Law OG1 OTG is ANSI/ISEA Z87.1+ certified and satisfies this requirement. Employers must verify that the OTG fit is adequate for the specific prescription frames used — a loose or poorly fitting OTG provides reduced impact protection.

Should I choose the Law OG1 or the Klondike OG2 OTG?

Both are $9.99 and ANSI Z87.1+ certified OTG designs. Choose the Law OG1 for a simpler two-variant selection (Clear AF / Gray AF) with a Law frame. Choose the Klondike OG2 if you need Hi-Vis frame options (required in some high-traffic warehouse or road construction environments), Dual Coat variants, or the Klondike frame's larger coverage geometry. If your facility requires hi-visibility frame color on a documented PPE specification, the OG2 with Hi-Vis frame is the correct selection.

What does ANSI Z87.1+ mean on safety glasses?

ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 is the U.S. standard for occupational eye and face protection, covering impact resistance, optical clarity, and UV protection. The + suffix indicates high-velocity impact rating — tested with a 1/4-inch steel ball at 150 fps — which is the level required for most industrial and construction environments. All MCR Safety glasses in this collection carry the Z87.1+ high-impact marking.

How do I choose between Clear, Gray, and Amber lenses?

Clear lenses transmit nearly all visible light — correct for indoor work, low-light conditions, and any task where color accuracy matters. Gray/Smoke lenses cut brightness without distorting color, making them the standard choice for outdoor work in direct sunlight. Amber/Yellow lenses enhance contrast in overcast, foggy, or low-light outdoor conditions — they make edges and details pop but are not suited for bright direct sun. Indoor/Outdoor (I/O) Mirror lenses shift between both environments without changing glasses.

What is the difference between Duramass, MAX3, MAX6, and MAX36 coatings?

MCR Safety's coating tiers: Standard — base polycarbonate, no coating. Duramass — proprietary scratch-resistant hard coat, extends lens life in abrasive environments. MAX3 — enhanced anti-scratch hard coat. MAX6 — anti-fog treatment rated 10× more effective than standard; correct for humid, hot, or temperature-transition environments. MAX36 — polarized + anti-fog + scratch-resistant; premium outdoor lens for glare reduction near water, pavement, or reflective surfaces.

Can these be used over prescription glasses?

Standard safety glasses (non-OTG models) are not designed to fit over prescription frames. If you wear prescription eyeglasses on the job, choose the Law OG1 OTG or Klondike OG2 OTG — both are specifically designed to fit over most standard prescription frames while meeting ANSI Z87.1+ requirements.

“Finally an OTG that fits over large prescription frames”
I have wide frames and most OTG glasses crush them or leave side gaps. The Law OG1 fits over both lenses without any pressure and the anti-fog keeps up all shift in the lab.

“Anti-fog essential for cold-storage walkthroughs”
I do quality checks that take me from a 70-degree floor to a 35-degree walk-in cooler and back all day. The OG1 AF never fogged once - that matters when I need to read labels fast.

Comfortable, Clear, and Reliable Over-Glasses Protection
Comfortable, Clear, and Reliable Over-Glasses ProtectionThese MCR Safety OG110AF glasses are a great solution if you wear prescription eyewear but still need solid eye protection. They fit comfortably over my regular glasses without feeling too bulky or pressing against the frames. The clear polycarbonate lenses give good visibility, and the anti-fog coating works well—I haven’t had issues with them fogging up, even in warmer conditions.I also appreciate that they’re lightweight but still feel sturdy. The UV protection is a bonus if you’re using them outdoors, and the scratch-resistant coating helps keep the lenses clear after repeated use. They don’t look stylish, but that’s not the point—these are about function, and they do the job well. The only thing to keep in mind is that they’re fairly large, so if you have smaller glasses or a narrow face, they may feel oversized.Bottom line: A dependable, comfortable pair of safety glasses designed to fit over prescription eyewear. They deliver clear vision, solid protection, and are a smart buy for anyone who needs reliable eye coverage on the job or for home projects.

Great fit and vision
Great fit with or without glasses, which is nice. Don’t skew your vision at all like some safety glasses can do. Definitely would recommend them

Best OTG Safety Glasses
Excelent Over The Glasses (OTG) safety glasses. I have tried 6 different pair of OTG safety glasses from Amazon. This is by far the best of all. They fit my glasses well and don't produce a lot of shiny reflections like other brands. The ear piece does not wrap over the ear. It kind of clamps on the side of the head above my glasses ear pieces. I also wear behind the ear hearing aids so normal safety glasses that wrap behind the ear can get difficult to keep in place and hurt the ears. Not these. They are very comfortable. The first time I wore them I had them on for 6 or 7 hours straight and never really noticed them. I am usually taking my safety glasses off frequently to get a break from them. I highly recommend these OTG Safety Glasses! Best I've every worn in more than 20 years of wearing OTG safety glasses.

The're very OK. Contact points on temples are small = fatigue/hurt. Other + & - too.
Well... these are OK. Temples are very curved.. can not wear ear protection. Temple pads on the end are small and fatigue/hurt have a short use. Very OK dark gray and no distortion for an inexpensive pair. Frame hangs on your glasses... no contact with bridge or face. Temples adjust up/down (not in/out) to adjust the pitch of the frames... nice.

We can have affordable non prescription safety glasses now!
These fit over my extremely wide frames. My glasses are roughly 5.75 inches wide. Yeah, too wide for over glasses frames that aren’t extra large. These fit! They do sit a bit far from my eyes since my frames are maxing them out. However, I do a lot of crafting with glass and these are a must have. The others I tried all had to be returned.I’ve already recommended these to my friend who loves cats-frames as well! We can have affordable non prescription safety glasses now! These are very comfortable. Light weight and rest comfortably on my frames. Safety first! Unless you can’t wear safety glasses because your prescription glasses are too big. That’s no longer an excuse! I ordered another pair!

I'm impressed!
I'm Impressed! These fit well over my sunglasses or regulars prescription for gardening/pruning, etc. anything where things fly at my face. They worked well when a limb dropped on me. I've already broke a pair of expensive prescription sunglasses (that at least protected my eye from injury) when my edger threw up a good sized rock. Now my glasses are protected too. The low price belies how well these are made with a clean finish, no snags. FYI, I'm a female with a small face and nose. These would fit someone with a larger face and larger glasses, at least the average male, but stay on me just fine. I wear them with a leash, just in case. For heavy protection or fumes, these would NOT work but are fine for light labor.

Good protective eye wear!
I am happy to have protective eye wear during this pandemic. I bought these in the beginning of COVID 19 virus 🦠 pandemic thinking that if the virus could enter my mouth and nose, why not the pupils of my eyes. They fit over my eye glasses. The protective frames have a hinge on each arm so I can pivot the arms of the frame downward for a tighter fit but I notice that the glasses still slip off if I bend down. They are plastic and can be washed after every usage with simple soap and water. The eye glasses themselves are NOT scratch resistant so be careful not to drop them or store them next to sharp objects. Also, the protective wear are sold without a case so I return them to their original plastic bag after each wearing/cleaning and usage. Overall, the product does what I want it to do! I and my family who wear them along with masks and gloves are healthy still! Thus, I would recommend these protective frames. PS- these protective eye frames can be worn doing other chores as well ...
