EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.7/5WC Safety Review β€” Howard Leight LT-30 Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 32 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded single-use foam plug at NRR 32 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

Howard Leight LT-30 Corded Earplugs Overview

The Howard Leight LT-30 Corded Earplugs are corded single-use foam ear plugs from Howard Leight, rated NRR 32 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Howard Leight LT-30 belong to the corded ear plugs range. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 32 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 32 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~83 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~88 dBA after derating Good fit
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~78 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Howard Leight LT-30?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 32 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare AirSoft, SMF-30 SmartFit, FUS30S Fusion. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Howard Leight LT-30 reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Helpful Hearing-Protection Guides

Howard Leight LT-30 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the Howard Leight LT-30?

The Howard Leight LT-30 are rated NRR 32 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the Howard Leight LT-30 corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the Howard Leight LT-30 reusable or single-use?

They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy).

How do I insert the Howard Leight LT-30?

To fit them, roll them down between your fingers, pull the ear up and back, and insert β€” they expand to seal the canal. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the Howard Leight LT-30?

They are single-use foam β€” replace rather than wash once soiled or no longer expanding.

Are the Howard Leight LT-30 metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the Howard Leight LT-30?

They are one size fits most.

What noise levels suit NRR 32?

NRR 32 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the Howard Leight LT-30 NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 32 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic Howard Leight hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the Howard Leight LT-30 in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

Prepare to say "what" alot!
If you're wearing these you probably can't hear a thing I'm saying, but to anyone else, these are the best ear plugs. They are soft foam and comfortable unlike others that are too rigid and annoy the ear canal after a while. I first used these at work and then ended up buying a box myself. Totally worth the extra cost, and with the lanyard, you'll probably be able to hang onto them longer instead of losing them every time you take them out.

What? You'll have to speak up!
Think this is my second or third box. Ill be ordering again. Work great for any loud or annoying project you have going on from mowing the lawn, wood shop, tuning your carburetor, or changing a diaper 30 minutes past feeding time. These plugs definitely reduce the mind numbing noise to a manageable level so you can think. They are reusable to an extent. One pair will last me all day (or until i get wood ash or dirt stuck the the ear wax) and they're comfortable enough to have in for a few hours at a time.Haven't had one disconnect from the cord yet.

Best earplugs ever
These are the only earplugs I ever use. They are very soft and conform to my ear without it being uncomfortable. Great buy. Will buy it again when I run out.

Best I've Tried
The most comfortable that I have found, the material isn't hard on the skin in your ear when installing and removing them multiple times during the day. I can also wear them for hours without removing them and they remain comfortable. Working in a plant my hands get dirty and I find if I roll the plug between my fingers to flatten it before inserting the dirt gets ground into the material, and then into the ear. Instead I flatten it by squeezing in sections and not rolling, and the plugs stay cleaner. I also find it's important to use a cotton swab/Q-tip to clean my ears each day after showering to keep any dirt out that does collect. Overall the noise reduction is far superior to any over-the-head external hearing protector I have tried. I can get 2-3 days use from a single pair so one box can last nearly a year.

Only detectable if intact, don't fit very well.
I need metal detectable earplugs in my facility, so I decided to give these a try. They are detectable because there is a brass brad stuck through each plug. This brad makes insertion and retention difficult, and the ear plugs tend to fall out of my employee's ears. I have gone back to my "Spark Plugs" earplugs, because the entire foam portion, and even the tether, are detectable. Since I grind meat, that's a bonus to me.
