EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.4/5 — WC Safety Review of the Fibre-Metal F300, a face-shield headgear crown.
Editorial assessment by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor, based on published Fibre-Metal specifications and category fit. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Fibre-Metal F300 is an ANSI Z87.1 face-shield headgear crown with an adjustable channel-grip suspension and slot/pin locking cams, serving as the durable base that face-shield windows mount to for standalone use or over a hard hat — secondary protection worn over primary safety glasses or goggles.

Why the Fibre-Metal F300 is the crown, not the window

A face-shield system has two parts: a durable crown you buy once and a window you replace as it wears. The F300 is the crown — an adjustable channel-grip suspension with a slot/pin mechanism and locking cams that hold a face-shield window and set the fit tool-free across most adult head sizes, standalone or mounted over a hard hat. It carries ANSI Z87.1 basic impact for general industry, and the windows snap in as consumables. As face shields go, this is the headgear-crown base pick, and the best face shields guide and the glasses vs face shields guide explain how it layers with primary eyewear. It is the base a program buys once and re-windows for years.

Safety first: a face shield is secondary protection — it must be worn over primary safety glasses or goggles, not instead of them. A chemical splash hazard also needs sealed D3 goggles under the shield to seal the eyes. This is the headgear/crown base — the windows that mount to it are the consumable, so confirm on the listing which windows fit and whether one is included, plus the Z87 marking. Retire the crown when the suspension or cams are damaged.

What the Fibre-Metal F300 listing documents

From the published specs: an ANSI Z87.1 basic-impact face-shield headgear; an adjustable channel-grip suspension fitting most adult heads; a slot/pin mechanism with locking cams for the window; and configuration for standalone or hard-hat mounting. These are the listing's face shield headgear and face shield crown suspension credentials for an industrial face shield system. Confirm the compatible windows and Z87 marking on the listing.

How the Fibre-Metal F300 compares to other face and eye protection

For a window that mounts to a Fibre-Metal crown, the Fibre-Metal 6750CL; for another Fibre-Metal window, the Fibre-Metal 4178DGN; for a complete shield with headgear included, the 3M 8270 Deluxe; for a full-face shield with headgear, the Uvex Bionic; and for the goggle you wear under it, the Uvex Astrospec. The eye protection buyer's guide covers the range.

Choosing the right headgear and eye protection

Match the crown, window, and primary eyewear to the hazard. Browse the eye protection and safety goggles collections; for the standard, the ANSI Z87.1 guide; and for shield selection, the grinding and cutting shields guide and the best eye protection guide.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The F300 suits general manufacturing, maintenance, and metalworking programs that standardize on one durable crown and re-window it as the lens wears — see the manufacturing eyewear guide and the mechanics eyewear guide. Pair the crown and window with the safety glasses or goggles they supplement, and keep the eyewear underneath clear — see the anti-fog eyewear collection and the anti-fog guide. Confirm the compatible windows and Z87 marking on the listing, and keep fresh windows on hand. Frequently asked questions

What is the Fibre-Metal F300?

An ANSI Z87.1 face-shield headgear crown with an adjustable channel-grip suspension and slot/pin locking cams, serving as the durable base that face-shield windows mount to for standalone use or over a hard hat.

Is the F300 a window or headgear?

The F300 is the headgear/crown base - the suspension and mounting frame that face-shield windows snap into. The window is the consumable you replace; the crown is the durable part you buy once. Confirm whether a window is included on the listing.

Is a face shield primary eye protection?

No - a face shield is secondary protection worn over primary safety glasses or goggles, not instead of them. It adds face, cheek, and jaw coverage that eyewear alone cannot provide.

How does it adjust?

The listing states an adjustable suspension that fits most adult head sizes, with a channel-grip system and a slot/pin mechanism with locking cams for setting the fit and holding the window position.

Can it mount over a hard hat?

Yes - the listing states the headgear can be configured for standalone use or mounted over a hard hat; confirm the hard-hat adapter compatibility on the listing.

Does a window come with it?

The listing describes it as headgear; confirm on the product listing whether a face-shield window is included or ordered separately, and which windows fit the F300 crown.

What impact rating does it carry?

The listing states ANSI Z87.1 basic-impact for general industrial use, rated to ANSI Z87.1 and OSHA 1910.133 for impact and particle hazards. Confirm the exact Z87 marking on the listing.

Which windows fit it?

Face-shield windows compatible with the F300 crown mount via its slot/pin cams; confirm the specific compatible window part numbers on the listing before ordering replacements.

Can I wear it over prescription glasses?

Yes - as a face shield it is worn over your glasses or goggles; the suspension leaves clearance for eyewear underneath.

How do I care for it?

Wipe the suspension and frame clean, replace the sweatband as needed, and retire the crown if the suspension or cams are cracked or worn, since damaged headgear no longer holds the window as intended.

When should I replace the crown versus the window?

Replace the window when it is scratched or hazed; replace the crown only when the suspension, cams, or frame are damaged - the crown is the durable base and the window is the consumable.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

BEWARE!!!
Nice head gear, but where's the window!!! There is NO mention of the lack of window shield in the description!!! You shouldn't have to read a review to find this out!

Face Shields not as pictured, No faceplate plastic in each box.
i got us two face shields and two spare face shield plastic windows.greatly disappointed that there was only the headgear and no faceplate in each.so this makes this item overpriced for headgear that includes faceplate plastic.I thought i was getting a bargain and instead i got rooked.

The best face shield you can buy
The best face shield you can buy. Light, comfortable, positive shield adjustment. For those who have owned enough to know better after 35 years. As the other reviewer mentioned, you have to order the "window" separately. Order two. These resist scratching better than most, but ordering a replacement is a hassle and you usually can't see out of the used face shields lying around. Shaded also available - good for welding observation, intense light sources, etc.
