EDITORIAL REVIEW: 3.8/5WC Safety Review β€” Elvex EP-411 Quattro Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded reusable flanged hearing protection at NRR 25 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded reusable flanged plug at NRR 25 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

Elvex EP-411 Quattro Corded Earplugs Overview

The Elvex EP-411 Quattro Corded Earplugs are corded reusable flanged ear plugs from Elvex, rated NRR 25 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Elvex EP-411 Quattro belong to the corded ear plugs range and the NRR 25 ear plugs group. They are reusable and washable across many shifts; for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 25 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 25 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~86 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~91 dBA after derating Add earmuffs
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~81 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Elvex EP-411 Quattro?

Buy them if you want reusable flanged hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 25 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare Uni-Fit, EP-412 Quattro, Rubber. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Elvex EP-411 Quattro reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Elvex EP-411 Quattro Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the Elvex EP-411 Quattro?

The Elvex EP-411 Quattro are rated NRR 25 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the Elvex EP-411 Quattro corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the Elvex EP-411 Quattro reusable or single-use?

They are reusable and washable across many shifts.

How do I insert the Elvex EP-411 Quattro?

To fit them, push the pre-molded flanges gently into the canal until sealed; no rolling needed. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the Elvex EP-411 Quattro?

Yes β€” rinse the flanges with mild soap and water, dry, and reuse.

Are the Elvex EP-411 Quattro metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the Elvex EP-411 Quattro?

They are pre-sized flanges (check sizing if offered).

What noise levels suit NRR 25?

NRR 25 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the Elvex EP-411 Quattro NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 25 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic Elvex hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the Elvex EP-411 Quattro in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

GREAT PLUGS, BUT BE CAREFUL ORDERING!
Got these today and surprised there's no cord since the photo on the Offer Listing page (click on "6 new" just under the "sold by" line) shows a cord. Paid $4.95 to seller BOPO Tech (fulfilled by Amazon) for TWO sets of plugs since the Offer Listing for BOPO said "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" ... but I got only one set. It was Amazon's boo-boo, and they gave me the $2 credit I requested, so I'm satisfied with that. I got tripped up on this one, but BE SURE to always look at the Offer Listing page before selecting an item ... the "% Positive" rating and the number of ratings are important. I look for ratings of over 95% and numbers in the thousands. If you like to gamble or play with fire, however, just ignore that tip. But be leery of any "2 for 1" notes on that page. Believe it only if it's on the main item page. The plugs themselves are terrific! I'm a big guy with a big head and big ears, and they went in until I almost couldn't get them out ... very effective sound proofing, but sure could use a cord! Nice way to clean out the wax too! And very comfy!BTW, these ARE available WITH a cord ... just enter "Elvex Quattro" into the Search window and search All Departments. If the item title includes "cord" or "corded," then you're good to go. It's about $1 more for a corded set. Or WAY more if you're not careful!

Decent ear plugs
I have been wearing earplugs for more than 25 years now. I wore the Air Force issued three flange until turning 42. Then my gut started to expand, hair was growing in places where it had never been before, and my ear canals enlarged! With all the budget cuts, the AF quit carrying the three flange. Now a contractor, I had to look elsewhere. After trying several types on the civilian market, I settled for these. Took a bit of getting used too. They are a wider 'cone' at the base than my old ones. Seemed too large. But, they are really soft. May sound gross, but I lick 'em, and stick 'em. Been doing it for years. Just wash them every couple of days with hot water and soap. And for God sakes, keep your ears clean. These work pretty good and don't hurt my ears after wearing them for three to six hours at a time.Gave them four stars because sometimes it is hard to get them to 'seal' in my ear.

The best earplugs money can buy.
You don't need the cord. I first got these earplugs in the army and they are the best ones I have ever seen. They are softer and more comfortable than any earplug on the market. They have 4 flanges, so they are the quietest on the market. They dont protrude much from the ears, so you can wear them under peltors when shooting the incredibly loud Barrett M82 varients. I can't say enough about these. Try them and you won't be disappointed.

Not worth the money
Purchased these to use at the shooting range. No noticable noise reduction at all. Not even when shooting a .22. I wore them when I shot the .22 and took them out and shot without them. Didn't notice any difference. When I used them when I shot the .40 I nearly jumped out of my skin. Had to use the muffs. Not worth a plug nickle...

Very good product, works as promised
Excellent product, really fits well. The little handle pin is too large if you want to sleep with them. I cut half inch.Worked beautifully.May be a quick clean with soap once a week, will keep them in good shape.

Best Ear plugs at the best price
I've tried regular foam ear plugs, several silicone, and the Surefire EP4-EP7and in my opinion these are the best I've ever used. They fit in your ear perfectly and don't wiggle they're way out like the rest

Worked for me
These are just what i was looking for; except that they came attached to a chord. No biggie, though, I just tugged (firmly) on the chord to separate it from the plugs. The plugs are soft, and seem to be resilient. I don't use them when sleeping, so I can't comment on their comfort lying on the stub. The fit is a little big for me, so the stub does sticks of quite a bit (for me).The product is advertised as free shipping...which is bogus, so don't let that factor into your purchasing decision. The box is a little bit more bulky than it could be.

Don't waste your money
Picture CLEARLY shows this item comes with a small round case. No case arrived, but instead the ear plugs arrived in just a plastic bag. The case was what was important with this product for storage. Not happy and will not buy again nor do I recommend this product. Would of done better at the $ Store.

Elvex EP402 Ear Plugs
Ordered these ear plugs not to reduce sound levels, but to keep water out of my ears when showering. Although not really designed for this purpose, they work far better than those I've bought previously that were made for swimming. These seal the ear opening very well, and for their intended purpose to reduce sound, they do a decent job at that too. I'll keep on searching for the perfect ear plug, but in the mean time, these will continue to do the job they weren't intended to do!

Does the Job
I bought these for the firing range. They do provide the needed protection but, depending on the caliber of weapon you (or someone in an adjacent stall) is/are using, This may not be enough. Not sure what the little metal chains are for. They don't make a very good lanyard.
