I love this thing! Haven’t had one black boogey since I’ve been using it. And the headaches are gone. After 9 hours of on time the battery still has a bar or two left. No reflections from behind, and the clarity is amazing!Before I had a speedglas 9100xxi and a Lincoln 3350 4c. I liked the speedglas better for tig and stick, but the Lincoln was better for me for mig. Well, you can choose the tint on the g5-01, so I can switch depending on how I am feeling. It’s so clear I find myself forgetting to flip the auto dark up to fit at times.With the hood adjusted as close to my face as possible, the weight doesn’t feel much worse than my old hoods. It will slip down your brow a little, like all of my speedglas hoods have.You can adjust the airflow so it points wherever you want. I can keep it away from my face for the winter, but as it gets warmer redirect it to kinda cool me off. It’s still a confined space inside, so when it gets really hot I can see myself removing it more frequently.It’s definitely narrower than the 9100 series. I have some slim ear muffs that won’t fit under without flexing the hood, which kinda sqeuuzes you head then. That and the neck/ear protection aren’t so great. I’m gonna get the extended neck coverage, or the apf1000 kit to remedy that.Oh, and don’t fart with this hoods down. It comes straight at ya!

Had em all: this is the best welding system out there. Fantastic view of weld puddle with all types of welding, hood keeps the sun out of your visor when it’s behind you. PAPR is so much healthier. Now they say that stick fumes are as bad as shielded flux core wire fumes. My wife won’t let my crew let me use anything else. Tells them to make sure I wear my “space suit”! I bought the backpack for the battery instead of the belt for better maneuverability. It can be warm but it NEVER fogs up. I’ve had both the Lincoln systems with cleaned air and I’ve owned the Swiss Optrel. I like the 3M the best by far. Just get it. You won’t regret it.
