The 3M Centurion 454AF is an ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 D3/D4 indirect-ventilation safety goggle pairing chemical splash and impact protection with a soft, contoured face seal and a clear anti-fog lens for prolonged all-day comfort β€” a sealed goggle for splash and dust, not open glasses.

Why the 3M Centurion 454AF pairs splash protection with all-day comfort

A goggle a worker will not wear all day is not protecting anyone β€” and hard-framed goggles dig in at the brow, cheekbones, and nose. The Centurion 454AF answers that with a soft, flexible frame and a contoured face seal that conforms with less pressure for sustained wear, paired with indirect ventilation that keeps splash and droplets out while airflow reduces fogging, all carrying the explicit ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 D3 splash and D4 dust ratings and a clear anti-fog lens. As safety goggles go, this is the comfort splash pick, and the glasses vs goggles guide and the ANSI Z87.1 guide explain the D-codes. It seals against splash and stays comfortable through the shift.

Safety first: the listing states a D3 rating, so the 454AF is documented for a chemical splash hazard as well as D4 dust, using indirect vents that block splash while maintaining airflow β€” confirm the D3 marking suits your specific chemical on the listing. For concentrated chemical or acid splash, the non-vented Centurion 452AF is the stronger barrier. Where the face also needs coverage, add a face shield over the goggle; for flying-particle-only work, open safety glasses may suffice. See the glasses vs face shields guide.

What the 3M Centurion 454AF listing documents

From the published specs: an ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 sealed goggle with explicit D3 splash and D4 dust ratings; indirect ventilation; a soft, contoured face seal for prolonged comfort; and a clear anti-fog lens. These are true indirect vent goggle and chemical splash goggle credentials in a soft seal safety goggle. Confirm the current certification on the listing.

How the 3M Centurion 454AF compares to other eye protection

For the non-vented maximum-barrier Centurion, the 3M Centurion 452AF; for a premium D3/D4 GoggleGear, the 3M GoggleGear 3000; for a panoramic indirect-vent goggle, the 3M GoggleGear 6000; for a Uvex indirect-vent goggle, the Uvex Stealth S3960D; and for face-level coverage, the face shields collection. The eye protection buyer's guide covers the range.

Choosing the right eye protection for the hazard

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The Centurion 454AF suits laboratory, chemical-processing, industrial-maintenance, and manufacturing work needing D3/D4 splash and dust protection with prolonged wear comfort β€” see the laboratory eyewear guide and the healthcare eyewear guide. Where the splash is concentrated or from acids, step up to the non-vented 452AF. Confirm the D3 marking on the listing, and retire the goggle when the seal, lens, or vents are worn. Frequently asked questions

What is the 3M Centurion 454AF?

An ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 D3/D4 indirect-ventilation safety goggle pairing chemical splash and impact protection with a soft, contoured face seal and a clear anti-fog lens for prolonged all-day comfort.

What is indirect ventilation?

Indirect vents let air move through the goggle to reduce fogging while their baffled path blocks liquid splash and droplets from entering directly - the ventilation type suited to splash and dust hazards with better airflow than a non-vented goggle.

What do the D3 and D4 ratings mean?

D3 is the ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 marking for droplet and splash protection and D4 is for dust protection - the listing states both, so the goggle is rated for liquid splash and fine dust.

Is it rated for chemical splash?

Yes - the listing states chemical splash and impact protection with a D3/D4 rating and indirect ventilation, meeting the ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 standard. Confirm the D3 marking suits your specific chemical on the listing.

What makes the face seal comfortable?

The Centurion series uses a soft, flexible frame and a contoured face seal that conforms to the face with less pressure than rigid injection-molded frames, reducing pressure points at the brow, cheekbone, and nose for all-day wear.

How does it differ from the 452AF?

The 454AF uses indirect ventilation for splash protection with better airflow and comfort; the 452AF is fully non-vented for maximum barrier protection against concentrated chemical and acid splash. Choose the 454AF for prolonged wear.

How is a goggle different from safety glasses?

A goggle seals against the face around the eye socket, blocking particles, liquid splash, and mist from any angle; open safety glasses leave gaps at the sides and top.

When should I choose indirect-vent over non-vented?

Choose indirect-vent for splash and dust where comfort and reduced fogging matter through long shifts; step up to non-vented for concentrated chemical or acid splash.

Does it fit over prescription glasses?

Confirm the over-the-glasses fit on the product listing; for a dedicated OTG goggle, the Uvex Stealth S3970D has an enlarged cavity.

How do I care for it?

Clean the lens with lens-safe wipes, keep the sealing surface and vents clear, and retire the goggle when the lens is scratched, the seal degrades, or a vent is blocked, since a damaged goggle no longer performs as rated.

Can I wear it under a face shield?

Yes - a face shield is secondary protection worn over goggles; confirm compatibility with your face shield or hard hat on the listing.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

Nice Goggles, Terrible Strap Makes Them Unusable
The goggles themselves seem well made and well designed. They're comfortable, even with large glasses underneath. However, the supplied rubber strap makes them pretty much unusable in their stock form. It is a short piece of slippery rubber, with no buckle or means of adjusting length/tension; it relies on friction to keep its length, but the rubber is slippery so it just gets looser and looser and comes off. It could probably be fixed with an aftermarket strap, but it really should work out of the box.

It only looks good
It looks good, the quality is okay but awful at the same time. Since there are no ventilation holes the goggles fog very quickly.

strap is a pain
Wonderful goggles. Rommel Desert style. Good for anything, but excellent for liquid and fine particles. only hangup is the strap. It is too short. Really. My head is 7-1/2. Also, the strap is too slippery. It needs a buckle attachment and more length.

It was broken when received.
I bought the goggles because I need to take a really long flight. I need the goggles for virus protection. After I received the package, I didn't open it until the day of my flight. However, after I opened the amazon packaging there was no another 3m packaging, which is quite rare. Usually when I bought something like from a brand A, inside the amazon packing there should be another layer of packing by the brand A. I didn't see the 3m packing this time. And I am getting suspicious that this is not a brand new product. Then I try to put it on, and I realized that the belt for the goggle is broken, which means the item I bought is completely useless. I wasted my money. And I didn't have time to buy another goggle before my flight. I am not happy.
