EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.9/5WC Safety Review β€” Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit Corded Earplugs

Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 33 dB with a retention cord.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a solid corded single-use foam plug at NRR 33 dB β€” the cord earns its keep on jobs where dropped plugs get lost.

Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit Corded Earplugs Overview

The Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit Corded Earplugs are corded single-use foam ear plugs from Moldex, rated NRR 33 dB. The permanent cord keeps the pair together so a plug isn’t lost, and lets you hang them around your neck between tasks. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit belong to the corded ear plugs range and the NRR 33 ear plugs group. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 33 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 33 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~82 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~87 dBA after derating Good fit
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~77 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection with a retention cord at NRR 33 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare 6770 Flip-to-Listen, 6436 Alphas, 6435 Alphas. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Best Applications

Industrial & construction noise

Power tools, plants and construction work at sustained high noise suit a corded NRR 33 plug you won’t lose between tasks.

Shooting & range use

For range and shooting use, pair a high NRR with muffs for impulse noise.

Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit?

The Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit are rated NRR 33 dB (EPA-labeled per ANSI S3.19). Real-world protection is usually lower, so NIOSH recommends derating the NRR when estimating exposure.

Are the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit corded?

Yes. The permanent cord links the pair so you don't lose a plug, and lets you wear them around your neck between tasks β€” the cord does not change the NRR.

Are the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit reusable or single-use?

They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy).

How do I insert the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit?

To fit them, roll them down between your fingers, pull the ear up and back, and insert β€” they expand to seal the canal. A proper seal is what delivers the rated protection.

Can I wash the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit?

They are single-use foam β€” replace rather than wash once soiled or no longer expanding.

Are the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit metal-detectable?

No. For food or pharma lines where a lost plug must be detectable, see our metal-detectable ear plugs.

What size are the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit?

They are one size fits most.

What noise levels suit NRR 33?

NRR 33 dB suits common industrial noise once derated; for very high or impulse noise, add earmuffs for dual protection. See what NRR means.

Do corded ear plugs reduce the NRR vs uncorded?

No. The cord is only for retention; the plug body and seal determine attenuation.

Are the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit NIOSH/EPA labeled?

Yes β€” NRR 33 dB is EPA-labeled under ANSI S3.19. WC Safety sells authentic Moldex hearing protection through legitimate channels.

Can I buy the Moldex 6900 Pura-Fit in bulk or by the case?

Yes. Use the Request a Quote option for case and dispenser pricing on volume orders.

Should I choose ear plugs or ear muffs?

Plugs suit tight spaces, heat and all-day wear; muffs are faster on/off. Many high-noise jobs use both β€” see ear plugs vs ear muffs.

Perfect for my ears.
I have need for ear plugs that work well. The yellow hard rubber 2 or 3 tier ones are hard to insert and cause ears to hurt within a few minutes. Plus they don't muffle much. The soft sponge type puff up faster that I can get them inserted in my ears properly, especially the smaller right ear. So they dont work well either. Someone gave me a sponge pair that he uses at work.Bingo! It was these green MOLDEX 6900 Pura- Ft corded ear plugs. They roll into a real tight point and expand slow enough to insert them properly. Both ears. Once installed they are way quieter than any others I have tried. I'm super impressed with them and ordered a box of 100. I have used all pair several times before replacement. The key is to roll them tight, insert and hole in place 30+ seconds. They work best for me if I gently clean inside my ear's canal with a q-tip damp with Hydrogen Peroxide. That cleans off any dirt or wax that could make the plugs want to stick or push that dirt farther into the ear. I do that very gently. VERY GENTLY!

Perfect noise reduction
I buy these wirk as im a heavy equipment operator and these have the highest decibal rating. I also wear these to bed to muffle my husband's snoring and when I blow dry my hair so soften the noise. I keep a few sets in my pick up and put a pair in my pocket when I go to crowded events to wear when the noise gets to be overwhelming. They allow my ears some peace and comfort in a noisy world and protect my ears from preventable damage. They're easy to twist and roll to insert & expand gently but firmly. The seal is effective & the git is comfortable to wrar for hours at a time. They also come out smoothly. The color in person is as shown. I also wear these when I get a migraine because they work really well to dampen noise.

Moldex Pura-Fit Foam Earplugs
Pretty good earplug. Easy to insert with the extra length, does a good job of blocking unwanted sound. The plug fits my right ear perfectly, but isn't quite as good in my left ear. My left ear canal is probably a bit of a different shape.

Best earplugs for a farm - to protect against gnats
I use these lil' Muther Pluggers to protect against the God forsaken gnats on our Farm. They do a great job at blocking out noise and pesky gnats. Das Rite. The bright green colour helps people know that I'm a special kind of SPECIAL. BUT, everyone already KNOWS that, Boty ‼️

This batch was cut shorter now harder to remove
My previous purchase seemed to be a bit longer, I’ve bee using this brand the last 10 years as a firefighter for loud noises of heavy equipment operations and sleeping in the firehouse dorm with loud snorers. These I believe were the absolute best sound ablating hearing protection plugs. So much so I continued to use this brand for the past 15 years after retiring for personal use at home for loud noises and a snoring spouse. But they seem to be cutting them shorter than previous purchases. I have a small narrow ear canal and to make a perfect seal for optimal noise blocking it is nearly flush with the canal opening making it really difficult to pull it with my fingers, maybe if I didn’t keep my nails so short it would be easier to pull out. So I pull them out now with a pair of tweezers. My spouse has an enormous head and huge ear canals he loves them but he can’t get as good a seal without his canals swallowing up the entire earplug for optimal hearing protection again requiring removal by punching the edge of soft earbud with tweezers to remove. So they went from best performance on the market, believe me I’ve tried them all! To loosing a star because they are cut shorter. The material used is still the best and most comfortable, perfectly conforming to the canal, blocking out nearly all medium loud sounds, and dampening dangerously loud noise from machines, target practice, fireworks, heavy equipment etc. they still are the best on the market to preserve hearing. Even other brands that claim protection against the same or more megahertz or amperage of sound.

Great Ear plugs
So much better than the Lowe's brand I bought. They stay in the ear canal and attenuate the noise.
