EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.6/5WC Safety Review β€” Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit Cordless Earplugs

Best For: corded single-use foam hearing protection at NRR 33 dB in a low-profile uncorded design.

Not For: non-noise hazards, or noise that earplugs alone can't bring under ~85 dBA (add earmuffs).

Bottom Line: a practical single-use foam plug at NRR 33 dB β€” the uncorded low-profile fit suits tight spaces and high-volume single-use.

Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit Cordless Earplugs Overview

The Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit Cordless Earplugs are cordless single-use foam ear plugs from Moldex, rated NRR 33 dB. With no cord to catch or snag, they keep a low profile for tight and confined spaces β€” the most economical choice for high-volume single-use. Start with our hearing-protection guide and what NRR means, then confirm the noise level you’re protecting against.

The Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit belong to the cordless ear plugs range and the NRR 33 ear plugs group. They are single-use (replace when soiled or no longer springy); for the trade-offs see foam vs reusable ear plugs.

What NRR 33 dB Means

NRR is a laboratory rating; NIOSH suggests derating it for real-world use. Here is how NRR 33 dB lines up with common environments (always confirm with a noise survey):

Environment Approx. noise Fit for NRR?
Power tools / workshop (~95 dBA) ~82 dBA after derating Good fit
Heavy equipment / construction (~100 dBA) ~87 dBA after derating Good fit
Manufacturing / plant floor (~90 dBA) ~77 dBA after derating Good fit
Firearms / impact (140 dB peak) Impulse noise Add earmuffs (dual)

Who Should Buy the Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit?

Buy them if you want single-use foam hearing protection in a low-profile uncorded design at NRR 33 dB. Consider another plug if you need a different level or style: compare 6430 Alphas, 6450 Jetz, 6598 BattlePlugs. For the highest ratings see highest-NRR ear plugs.

Hearing protection only works when worn correctly for the full exposure. The NRR is a laboratory rating; real-world attenuation is typically lower, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it when estimating protection. For very high noise β€” or whenever earplugs alone can’t bring exposure under about 85 dBA β€” wear them with earmuffs (dual protection). The Moldex 6800 Pura-Fit reduces noise; it does not eliminate it or protect against non-noise hazards.

Best Applications

Industrial & construction noise

Power tools, plants and construction work at sustained high noise suit a low-profile uncorded NRR 33 plug that won’t snag in tight spaces.

Shooting & range use

For range and shooting use, pair a high NRR with muffs for impulse noise.

Almost the best earplugs that I've tested
I absolutely don't tolerate any noise when going to sleep, and my hearing is very good, so I am using earplugs all the time. I've been using Hearos Xtreme Protection NRR 33dB for years. This year I started to run out of my stock, so I decided to perform a test of earpugs of different manufacturers. I've tested Moldex Softies "Drift to sleep", these ones - Moldex 6800 Pura Fit, 3M E-A-RSoft Yellow Neons and Hearos Xtreme Protection, all NRR 33dB. It turned out that these earplugs - Moldex 6800 Pura Fit - are close second best at blocking sound. Sorted by blocking sound efficiency: Moldex Softies are best, Moldex 6800 Pura Fit are just a bit worse, then come 3M Yellow Neons, then Hearos Xtreme Protection which are the worst. Now, all of these are actually very good, and even I can go to sleep with any of them, yet some are still better than others at blocking sound. All of these were comfortable for my ears, none too large (Moldex Softies are quite large but it causes no problems for me) or too small (3M Yellow Neons are smaller than others I tested but it doesn't stop them from blocking sound very well), all are sufficiently soft and usually stay in place during sleep.

~30 dB noise reduction, soft and comfortable.
These are soft, comfortable, and easy to use. Very noticeable noise reduction of around 30 dB (that's a LOT). We wear them to hockey games since the sound guy thinks that over compressed, over hyped bass, blasting at 116dB is a good thing <sigh>.

The Very Best Ear Plugs!
I've tried every ear plug on the market. These are hands down the best. They're the most comfortable. You squish them down and roll them in your fingers, insert into ear, then they gently expand and block out all noise. They block street noise, train horns, conversations. Always take a pair with you when traveling and on airplanes.Other earplugs will expand for a comfy fit but not block out noise. Still others will expand so much they hurt your ear. These are perfect!Assuming you have clean ears, one pair lasts a very long time. A pair lasts me months to years. I only need a new pair when I lose them.

Work too well!
Right out of the package they insert very easily. They fit great and are easy to remove. Never going to fall out. With that said, they lose those qualities over time so recycle them and open another package. They’re not expensive. My biggest concern is sleeping with them. My house could be hit by a rocket, and I wouldn’t hear a thing.

These are great earplugs
These are the best earplugs that I have tried ( this is my 4th order of this brand). When I wear them at night, I hear nothing...no snoring spouse or 5 am cat wake up calls. As other reviewers have noted, there seems to be an inconsistency in the quality of a few of the individual earplugs in that some of the plugs seem to be softer and less dense than others and really do not seat well in the ear canal. Regardless, a soft Moldex plug still outperforms other brands that I have tried. I like that the plugs are individually wrapped pairs which means I can keep an extra set in my travel bag. The price is excellent because price-wise, the cost for a good night's sleep is less than .25 cents a week since the plugs can be reused. Note that these are not included in Amazon prime, so expect the free shipping to take about 10 days.

THE BEST EARPLUGS I HAVE EVER USED - AND I'VE USED A LOT
I've used about 8-10 brands trying to find ones that:1). Cancel out the most noise2). Don't hurt my ears.3). Last the longest. These are without question the best brand I've tried. I forget they're in my ears. I get about 10-14 days out of each pair, before they lose elasticity, which is outstanding when compared to competitors. They block everything out. They look longer than most, which may scare some people off, but the length is actually one of the best things about them; when you insert them, they go deeper than other brands. Then, once they start to fill out in your ears, you pull them out a bit and they rest perfectly against the outer part of your ear.I am one of those people who search for the best version of everything I use, and I am happy I found my earplugs for life. One strange thing about these particular ones (from this seller) is that they don't come in a nice bag or box or anything. They're shipped in a shipping bag, loose. This isn't a big deal, as each pair is packaged individually (another HUGE plus, because they stay sealed and fresh way longer), but I felt it would have been nice to at least put them in a ziplock bag or something. It's better for the environment this way, I suppose, so maybe it's another plus!I just transfer them all into an old shaving kit I don't use anymore.

Very reliable and effective.
I have used a few different ear plugs over the years. These seem to be the most effective in this foam class. They also last quite awhile, as long as you do not get them wet (Q tip your ears after showering).

Best foam earplugs
I got a free pair of these with an eye mask I ordered off Amazon and they are great! I've always thought earplugs don't really do much. But these actually form a good seal and reduce noise. One of my ear canals is smaller and that one can take a couple tries to get it right but it works. Gotta roll it thin and hold it in place while it puffs back up. I can barely hear my phone alarm if I'm not facing the nightstand! So I make sure it vibrates too. My SO gets up earlier than me and I can't hear his alarms at all with these. They are conveniently wrapped in individual packets of 1 pair which makes it easy to travel with or take to a concert, tho it's a bit wasteful and they are one time use only. I like Mack's silicone earplugs a bit better as they just cover the outside of the ear and aren't in the ear canal, but those are more expensive and not individually packaged. Those can be reused but I don't like doing that.
