MCR Safety 36136 Goatskin Impact Gloves, Leather Driver (Small) Overview

The MCR Safety 36136 goatskin impact gloves are a supple grain goatskin leather driver with a hi-vis orange TPR back of hand for impact protection, a keystone thumb, and a shirred elastic back. This listing is the small size (36136S). It is the base model in the 36136 driver family, built for impact and abrasion in general handling work.

As goatskin leather driver gloves, the appeal is dexterity and grip: supple grain goatskin, rich in natural lanolin, stays comfortable and abrasion-resistant, while the hi-vis orange TPR impact gloves back guards the knuckles and back of hand. As hi-vis impact back gloves with a keystone thumb, they slip on and off quickly for material handling and warehouse tasks.

One important note: this base 36136 does not include an engineered cut-resistant liner. Unlike the CutPro cut-resistant 36136HP (HyperMax HPPE liner) and 36136KDP (DuPont Kevlar liner), the standard 36136 relies on leather alone, so it should not be used where cut protection is required β€” choose the HP or KDP variant for a rated cut liner. MCR lists an ANSI/ISEA 138 impact rating for this model; confirm the current level on MCR's datasheet. Compare this leather work glove against the CutPro upgrades and browse material-handling gloves before ordering. These keystone thumb work gloves are impact-and-abrasion PPE, not chemical or heat protection.

What These 36136 Gloves Are Built For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
General material handling with impact risk Purpose-built Goatskin grip plus a TPR back for back-of-hand impact.
Warehouse and general work Strong Driver style slips on and off quickly; abrasion-resistant leather.
Back-of-hand impact protection Rated Hi-vis orange TPR back; confirm the ANSI/ISEA 138 level on the datasheet.
Cut hazards (sharp edges, glass) Not this model No cut liner; use the CutPro 36136HP or 36136KDP for rated cut protection.
Chemical or heat exposure Not suitable Leather is mechanical PPE; use chemical- or heat-rated gloves instead.

Hand protection has to match the specific hazard. This glove is impact and abrasion PPE β€” a TPR back and leather shell β€” and it does not have a cut-resistant liner, so it should not be used for cut hazards; leather is also not rated for chemicals, so for a chemical splash hazard use chemical-resistant gloves selected for the substance, and use heat-rated gloves for hot work. Confirm the ANSI/ISEA 138 impact level against your task, size the glove correctly for dexterity, inspect the leather and TPR before each use, and replace the gloves once the leather or TPR is cut, worn, or cracked. For cut protection step up to a rated glove; compare tiers in cut vs impact gloves and the ANSI/ISEA 138 impact standard.

  • Not chemical- or heat-rated
  • Small size only on this listing β€” order other sizes separately

How It Compares

The 36136 is the impact-only base of the goatskin driver family. Weigh it against the cut-lined variants before ordering:

Model Cut liner Impact Best for
36136 (this page) None TPR back (per datasheet) Impact and abrasion, no cut hazard
36136HP HyperMax HPPE Level 1 Adds cut protection
36136KDP DuPont Kevlar + double palm Level 1 to 2 (transitioning) Cut, abrasion, and vibration

Choose the 36136 for impact and abrasion without a cut hazard, the 36136HP for an HPPE cut liner, or the 36136KDP for a Kevlar liner and padded double palm. Compare in our best impact-resistant gloves and best cut-resistant gloves guides and the wider impact glove range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the MCR 36136 gloves have a cut-resistant liner?

No. The base 36136 is a plain grain goatskin driver with a TPR impact back and no engineered cut-resistant liner. For rated cut protection, choose the CutPro 36136HP with a HyperMax HPPE liner or the 36136KDP with a DuPont Kevlar liner. Do not rely on this base model for cut hazards.

What protection does the 36136 offer?

It provides impact protection from the hi-vis orange TPR back of hand and abrasion resistance and grip from the goatskin leather shell. It is a general-handling leather driver, not a cut-, chemical-, or heat-rated glove.

What impact rating does the 36136 carry?

MCR lists an ANSI/ISEA 138 impact rating for this model via the TPR back of hand. Because the exact level can change with model updates, confirm the current level on MCR's datasheet or packaging before relying on it for a specific hazard.

How is the 36136 different from the 36136HP and 36136KDP?

All three share the goatskin shell and TPR impact back. The difference is the cut liner: the base 36136 has none, the 36136HP adds a HyperMax HPPE cut liner, and the 36136KDP adds a DuPont Kevlar liner plus a padded double palm. Step up to HP or KDP for cut protection.

What is the glove made of?

A supple grain goatskin leather shell with a hi-vis orange TPR back of hand, a keystone thumb, and a shirred elastic back. Goatskin is prized for dexterity, grip, and abrasion resistance, and its natural lanolin keeps the leather soft.

What size is this listing?

This is the small size (36136S). MCR Safety offers the 36136 in additional sizes as separate part numbers. A correct glove fit matters for dexterity and comfort, so measure your hand and confirm the size before ordering.

Is this a driver-style glove?

Yes. It is a leather driver, a slip-on style with a keystone thumb and elastic back and no cuff closure, common for material handling, warehouse, and general work where quick on and off matters. The TPR back adds impact protection.

Can I use these gloves for chemical handling?

No. Leather gloves are for mechanical hazards - impact and abrasion - not chemicals. For chemical exposure, use chemical-resistant gloves rated for the specific substance. Match the glove to the actual hazard.

What does the keystone thumb do?

A keystone thumb is a separately sewn thumb piece set at an angle to follow the natural position of the hand. It improves comfort and dexterity for gripping and reduces bunching compared with a straight-sewn thumb.

Are these good for handling sharp materials?

Only with caution. Goatskin resists abrasion but the base 36136 has no engineered cut liner, so it is not a cut-protection glove. For sharp edges, glass, or blades, use a cut-rated glove such as the CutPro 36136HP or 36136KDP, or another ANSI cut-rated option.

How do I care for goatskin leather gloves?

Keep them dry where possible, air dry away from direct heat if they get wet, and store them flat. Leather stiffens if dried too fast. Inspect the leather and TPR for cuts, wear, or cracking, and replace the gloves when protection is compromised.

When should I replace these gloves?

Replace them when the leather is cut through or worn thin, the TPR is cracked or detached, or the seams fail. Damaged gloves no longer deliver their impact or abrasion protection.

I love using these at work. I work in a factory that deals with metal shavings. Oil and coolant. These work well. Keep my eyes protected and fit comfortably. And they look nerdy and geeky but in a good way.

Very happy with the look and the quality. It's nice not having to think about safety glasses on the job site because the glasses I wear everywhere now also just happen to be safety glasses.

*3 MONTH REVIEW*
I’ve been using these for right at the 3 month mark and I’m completely satisfied with the quality and practicality vs the price point. They work well and fit my head snug enough to stay on but not enough to squeeze me behind the ears. They are lightweight and very scratch resistant, I’m rough on them and have never used the included travel bag to protect them. The polarized lenses work well and nose bridges have been very well so far with no issues. They are easy to clean and I’m ordering another set for a backup to keep on hand today.

Great for work
Couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Highly recommend to anyone looking for safety glasses that wont break the bank and you can tell you foreman they are safety rated so you don't have to wear the issued ones. They are pretty much my daily wear around glasses at this point.
