Howard Leight R-01205 Laser Lite Hi-Vis Earplugs, NRR 32 Overview

The Howard Leight R-01205 Laser Lite Hi-Vis earplugs are single-use hearing protection rated NRR 32 in the US, built in bright magenta and yellow so correct insertion can be confirmed at a glance. Under OSHA 1910.95, hearing protection is required when noise reaches an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 dBA β€” and on a busy site, being able to see who is protected matters as much as the rating itself.

As Laser Lite high-visibility earplugs, the differentiator is compliance visibility: the high-contrast color makes a missing or hanging plug obvious from a distance, so supervisors can run a quick visual check across a crew. Underneath, these are NRR 32 foam earplugs made of self-adjusting low-pressure polyurethane foam in a contoured T-shape for easy, hygienic insertion, with a soil-resistant closed-cell skin that keeps the bright color visible in dusty conditions.

Like any item in hearing protection, match the plug to your measured noise exposure rather than reaching for the highest number. As compliance-check earplugs and disposable crew earplugs these suit sites that audit PPE use and crews that issue plugs at scale; R-01205 is one of several pack-size part numbers of the same Laser Lite plug, so verify the count on the packaging. The same plug is also sold corded as the LL-30. Compare this high-visibility ear plug against the wider foam ear plug and disposable ranges before ordering.

What These High-Visibility Earplugs Are Built For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
PPE compliance auditing Purpose-built Bright color lets a supervisor confirm insertion across a work area.
Crew and workplace supply Strong Disposable plugs are easy to issue and replace; pick the pack SKU that fits your crew.
High-noise construction and industry Strong NRR 32 covers most workplace noise when fitted correctly.
Snag-risk areas (moving equipment) Good Uncorded avoids a cord catching; choose the corded LL-30 where drops are the bigger risk.
Repeated all-day reuse Not ideal Single-use; for daily reuse choose a washable flanged reusable earplug.

Hearing protection only works when it fits, and a high-visibility color helps verify that it is being worn β€” but it does not change the protection. The labeled NRR is a laboratory value that overstates real-world attenuation, so OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating it: a common method subtracts 7 from the NRR and halves the remainder when estimating protection against a time-weighted average exposure. Wear hearing protection whenever noise reaches an 8-hour TWA of 85 dBA under OSHA 1910.95, roll and insert each foam plug fully and hold until it expands, replace plugs that will not seal, and use dual protection (plugs plus muffs) only per your safety program for very high noise. Pros & Cons

Pros
  • High-visibility magenta/yellow for fast compliance checks
  • High NRR 32 for a disposable foam earplug

  • Contoured T-shape eases hygienic insertion
  • Soil-resistant skin; easy to issue and replace at scale
Cons
  • Single-use β€” not a washable reusable plug
  • Color aids visibility but does not raise the NRR
  • Uncorded β€” easier to drop than the corded LL-30
  • Pack count varies by SKU β€” confirm on the packaging

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NRR of the R-01205 Laser Lite?

The Laser Lite is rated NRR 32 in the US, a high rating for a disposable foam plug. NRR is a laboratory value that depends heavily on correct fit in the field, so treat it as a ceiling and derate it for real-world exposure rather than assuming full protection.

Why are these Laser Lite earplugs high-visibility?

The bright magenta-and-yellow color lets a supervisor confirm from across a work area that a worker has earplugs correctly inserted. High-visibility hearing protection speeds up compliance checks and makes a missing or hanging plug obvious.

How many pairs are in the R-01205 pack?

R-01205 is one of several pack-size part numbers of the same high-visibility Laser Lite plug, and the exact count is not stated in this listing's title. Check the packaging for the pair count, and choose the SKU that matches how you issue plugs to your crew.

What makes the foam comfortable?

Self-adjusting low-pressure polyurethane foam expands gently in the ear canal, reducing the plugged, high-pressure feeling during long wear. A contoured T-shape gives a clean grip so you insert without touching the part that enters the ear, improving hygiene.

Are these Laser Lite earplugs corded or uncorded?

The Laser Lite in this high-visibility form is uncorded. Howard Leight also sells the same plug corded as the LL-30 for applications where a neck cord helps prevent dropping. Choose uncorded where a cord could snag on equipment.

What is the soil-resistant skin for?

The smooth, soil-resistant closed-cell foam skin resists dirt buildup, which keeps the plug cleaner in dusty workplaces and makes the high-visibility color easier to see. It also makes brief handling more hygienic, though the plugs are single-use.

How do I insert the Laser Lite earplugs correctly?

Roll the foam down to a thin crease with clean fingers, reach over your head to pull the ear up and back, insert the plug well into the canal, and hold it while the foam expands. A shallow fit loses much of the rated protection, so reinsert if you can still hear normally.

How should I apply the NRR to real noise levels?

OSHA and NIOSH recommend derating the labeled NRR because lab conditions overstate field performance. A common OSHA method subtracts 7 from the NRR and halves the remainder when estimating protection against a time-weighted average exposure. Follow your safety program's method.

When is hearing protection required?

OSHA requires hearing protection when noise reaches or exceeds an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 dBA under 1910.95. If you must raise your voice to be heard at arm's length, noise is likely high enough to warrant protection. See our guide on when hearing protection is needed.

Can I use these with earmuffs for very loud work?

Yes. Dual protection - earplugs plus earmuffs - is used for very high noise, but the combined NRR is not the sum of the two. Add about 5 dB to the higher of the two device ratings as a rule of thumb, and follow your safety program for dual-protection thresholds.

Are these earplugs reusable?

They are single-use disposable plugs. You may reuse a pair briefly if they stay clean and keep their shape, but discard them once they are dirty, will not expand, or no longer seal. For repeated daily wear, a washable reusable earplug is a better fit.

Do high-visibility earplugs protect any better?

The high-visibility color does not change the NRR - protection comes from the foam and fit. What it changes is compliance: a bright plug is easy to spot, so it is simpler to verify that workers are wearing and inserting them correctly across a site.

Using more than 10 YEARS. This model is perfect
Light, soft, extreme noise cancellation, no any discomfort, can use one pair for few days/weeks to sleep well. Tried many others at beginning, and when found this exact model - using it about 10 years or more EVERYDAY. Absolutely THE BEST! Not sure if they change something over recent years, one pack will last forever.

Best noise blocking
So much better than every other ear plug I have tried for noise - including HearOs which I used to getSleep restfully in these. Have been using them since 2021One caveat - I think these fit best for smaller ear canals. Some other reviewers have stated they fall out but I have never had that problem, especially if I allow them to mold for the 40s recommended

Easy to use & good decibel reduction
I have been using these ear plugs for decades. Long ago, I ordered a variety pack, and tried pretty much everything on the market. These were my absolute favorites. They are easy to roll up and stay compressed long enough to get them into your ear, they are long enough That they are easy to remove, and the expansion pressure of the foam doesn’t give you a sore ear canal after long periods.

Not the first to get scammed
Purchased the 100 pack for roughly $18.00 and received 1 , I know its a great product I’m a repeat customer, they work well , it would benefit amazon if they would fix this issue with this scam, now I’ve got to do the return drive

An important item for EVERY range trip!
I bought these individually packaged earplugs instead of the cheaper plastic "jug" of them for two reasons. First, so I can offer a clean pair for my students that either don't own better hearing protection or forgot to bring it, and secondly so I can keep a few stashed in my range bag for spur-of-the-moment additions of either a class or just friends/family deciding to join me on a range day. Another consideration is that if you use an open container of earplugs at the range you run the risk of them all being contaminated with lead & other powder fouling every time someone reaches into the jar. These have a good NRR of 32db, which is higher than some of the cheaper foam plugs. My only slightly negative comment is that I'll have to count them to see if I was given the promised amount since instead of a factory package the seller just put their own label onto a zip-lock type bag. At least they used a fairly heavy duty bag, but they obviously bought a big bulk batch to repackage. But only a minor issue at most.BTW for people who don't use electronic hearing protection you can still wear over the ear type earmuffs WITH these for even more hearing protection. But ALWAYS WEAR EYE & EAR PROTECTION you put on BEFORE getting out of the car at outdoor ranges or before you walk in for indoor ranges!
