Why the Ergodyne GloWear 8330Z is the standard Class 3 spec

When a DOT specification or project safety plan calls for a Class 3 vest in a high-speed work zone, the 8330Z is the conventional answer. It is GloWear's standard Class 3 two-tone zipper vest — lime background with silver retroreflective striping in the torso and shoulder band arrangement that meets Class 3's 1,240-square-inch total, in a familiar woven format with a zipper front for secure retention. The two-tone contrast reads as a human silhouette at distance and in low light. As Class 3 vests go, this is the standard two-tone pick, and the best hi-vis safety vests guide and ANSI 107 guide cover how to match a vest to the work zone. It is the config most Class 3 programs specify.

Safety first: the 8330Z is high-visibility apparel for being seen in traffic and low light — it is not protective clothing rated for a chemical splash hazard, cut, flame, or arc. For those hazards, wear the appropriate rated PPE, including chemical-resistant gear for chemicals. Keep the reflective striping unobstructed; Class 3 is required above 50 mph, so confirm it fits your zone with the when-do-you-need-hi-vis guide. Retire the vest once the fluorescent fabric fades or the tape cracks.

What the Ergodyne GloWear 8330Z listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 3 certification; a two-tone lime background with silver retroreflective striping; a standard woven construction; a zipper front closure; and the Class 3 requirement of 1,240 square inches of combined coverage. These are true class 3 two-tone vest credentials and a genuine standard class 3 vest — the conventional zipper hi-vis vest most Class 3 programs specify.

How the Ergodyne GloWear 8330Z compares to other hi-vis

For the mesh version of this Class 3 zipper vest, the GloWear 8320Z; for the mesh hook-and-loop Class 3 vest, the GloWear 8310HL; for a Class 3 surveyor vest, the GloWear 8346Z; for a zippered surveyor-style Class 3 vest, the Ergodyne two-tone Class 3 surveyor vest; and for the standard Class 2 two-tone zipper vest, the GloWear 8230Z. The complete hi-vis apparel guide covers the range.

Choosing the right hi-vis garment

Match Type, Class, fabric, and closure to the work zone, speed, and program spec. Where it fits by job and crew orders

The 8330Z suits highway, DOT, and infrastructure crews whose programs specify the standard Class 3 two-tone vest for high-speed zones. Size it correctly to keep the reflective geometry in place, confirm Class 3 for your zone, and retire it when the material fades; for outerwear options, compare the hi-vis jackets guide and the hi-vis rainwear collection. Frequently asked questions

What is the Ergodyne GloWear 8330Z?

An ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 3 two-tone hi-vis safety vest with a zipper front closure. It delivers the maximum Class 3 coverage for high-speed traffic zone workers in a conventional woven two-tone format with zipper security.

What does Type R, Class 3 mean?

ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R covers roadway workers, and Class 3 is the highest classification for standalone hi-vis vests, requiring 1,240 square inches of combined coverage in the horizontal torso and shoulder band arrangement, as the listing states.

When is Class 3 required?

Class 3 is required by OSHA, MUTCD, state DOT specifications, and project safety plans for roadway environments with vehicle speeds above 50 mph where Class 2 coverage is insufficient for the traffic speed and worker proximity.

What does the two-tone design add?

The lime background combined with silver reflective tape creates a more readily identifiable human silhouette against varied backgrounds than single-color vests, particularly in dawn, dusk, and low-light conditions.

How does it differ from the mesh 8320Z?

Both are Type R Class 3 zipper vests; the 8330Z uses standard woven fabric, while the 8320Z uses open-mesh for breathability. Choose the 8320Z for hot-weather work and the 8330Z for the conventional format.

Is this chemical or cut protective clothing?

No - the 8330Z is high-visibility apparel for being seen, not rated for a chemical splash hazard or cut protection. Use chemical-resistant or cut-rated PPE for those hazards.

Why a zipper closure?

The zipper provides secure retention that stays closed through active work, keeping the Class 3 coverage geometry in place during bending, reaching, and lifting.

How does it differ from a surveyor vest?

The 8330Z is a standard Class 3 vest; a surveyor vest such as the 8346Z adds pocket configurations for tools and instruments. Choose by storage needs.

Does it work day and night?

Yes - the fluorescent lime background provides daytime conspicuity and the silver retroreflective stripes return headlight and work-light beams at night.

What sizes are available?

Confirm the size and fit options on the product listing; a properly fitted vest keeps the reflective geometry positioned for its rated visibility.

How do I care for it?

Follow Ergodyne's care instructions and laundering limits; retire the vest when the fluorescent fabric fades or the retroreflective tape cracks, since faded material no longer meets its visibility rating.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

We wear these while walking the dogs, because drivers don't look where they are going and you have to be seen. These do the trick. We also use them while on the motorcycle for visibility purposes.Pros:Very visible, 2 color options, lots of sizing options, one pocket.Cons:Sizing is very large. The small/medium is more like a large and the large/X-large is very large. Material seems a bit flimsy, but time will tell. There could be more pockets.
