Why the Ergodyne GloWear 8310HL keeps Class 3 crews cool and quick

High-speed traffic zones demand Class 3 coverage, but a hot, solid-fabric vest is the one workers peel off — creating compliance gaps exactly where wearing is mandatory. The 8310HL heads that off: a breathable mesh body that circulates air for warm-weather and high-exertion comfort, a hook-and-loop front for fast one-motion access during intermittent zone work, and the full Class 3 requirement of 1,240 square inches of combined coverage. It is the hook-and-loop counterpart to the zipper 8320Z in the Class 3 mesh line. As Class 3 vests go, this is the breathable quick-access pick, and the best hi-vis safety vests guide and ANSI 107 guide cover how to match a vest to the work zone. It supports compliance by staying comfortable.

Safety first: the 8310HL is high-visibility apparel for being seen in traffic and low light — it is not protective clothing rated for a chemical splash hazard, cut, flame, or arc. For those hazards, wear the appropriate rated PPE, including chemical-resistant gear for chemicals. Keep the reflective striping unobstructed; Class 3 is for high-speed zones, so confirm it fits your zone with the when-do-you-need-hi-vis guide. Retire the vest once the fluorescent fabric fades or the tape cracks.

What the Ergodyne GloWear 8310HL listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 3 certification; a mesh fabric body for breathability; a hook-and-loop front closure for quick access; and the Class 3 requirement of 1,240 square inches of combined coverage in the torso and shoulder geometry. These are true class 3 mesh vest credentials and a genuine hook-and-loop hi-vis vest — a breathable class 3 vest for high-speed zones.

How the Ergodyne GloWear 8310HL compares to other hi-vis

For the zipper version of this Class 3 mesh vest, the GloWear 8320Z; for a standard Class 3 two-tone zipper vest, the GloWear 8330Z; for a Class 3 surveyor vest, the GloWear 8346Z; for a zippered surveyor-style Class 3 vest, the Ergodyne two-tone Class 3 surveyor vest; and for a Class 2 mesh hook-and-loop vest, the GloWear 8210HL. The complete hi-vis apparel guide covers the range.

Choosing the right hi-vis garment

Match Type, Class, fabric, and closure to the work zone, speed, and season. Where it fits by job and crew orders

The 8310HL suits highway, DOT, and utility crews in high-speed zones who want a cool mesh Class 3 vest with fast hook-and-loop access. Size it correctly to keep the reflective geometry in place, confirm Class 3 for your zone, and retire it when the material fades; for outerwear options, compare the hi-vis jackets guide and the hi-vis rainwear collection. Frequently asked questions

What is the Ergodyne GloWear 8310HL?

An ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 3 mesh hi-vis safety vest with a hook-and-loop front closure. It delivers the highest Class 3 retroreflective coverage in a breathable mesh design with fast one-motion access.

What does Type R, Class 3 mean?

ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R covers roadway workers, and Class 3 is the maximum coverage class for high-speed traffic, requiring 1,240 square inches of combined coverage in the horizontal torso band and shoulder stripe geometry, as the listing states.

Why choose mesh for Class 3?

Mesh construction provides air circulation through the vest for thermal comfort in warm-weather and high-exertion roadway work, reducing heat buildup and supporting consistent wearing compliance in conditions where thermal discomfort drives vest removal.

Why hook-and-loop instead of zipper?

Hook-and-loop provides fast one-motion opening and closing without zipper engagement, preferred for workers who frequently put on and remove the vest during intermittent traffic-zone work.

How does it differ from the zipper 8320Z?

Both are Class 3 mesh vests; the 8310HL uses a hook-and-loop closure for speed of operation, while the 8320Z uses a zipper for secure retention. Choose by closure preference.

Is this chemical or cut protective clothing?

No - the 8310HL is high-visibility apparel for being seen, not rated for a chemical splash hazard or cut protection. Use chemical-resistant or cut-rated PPE for those hazards.

When is Class 3 required?

Class 3 is required for high-speed traffic above 50 mph and complex or low-light work zones where Class 2 coverage is insufficient. Confirm the class with the ANSI 107 guidance and your traffic control plan.

How does it differ from the two-tone 8330Z?

The 8310HL is a mesh hook-and-loop vest for breathability and quick access; the 8330Z is a standard two-tone zipper vest. Both are Class 3 - choose by fabric and closure.

Does it work day and night?

Yes - the fluorescent background provides daytime conspicuity and the retroreflective stripes return headlight and work-light beams at night.

What sizes are available?

Confirm the size and fit options on the product listing; a properly fitted vest keeps the reflective geometry positioned for its rated visibility.

How do I care for it?

Follow Ergodyne's care instructions and laundering limits; retire the vest when the fluorescent fabric fades or the retroreflective tape cracks, since faded material no longer meets its visibility rating.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

More visiblity than the ubiquitous sleeveless version!
I had been searching local bike shops for a suitable reflective and highly visible vest for bicycle riding, but was unable to find a vest with sleeves, so I never ended up buying one. Then I searched Amazon for a reflective vest, and was able to find this model with sleeves, buried in a plethora of sleeveless vests, and it even has reflective material sewn into the sleeves. My reasons for wanting sleeves are because I am almost always wearing a backpack, which tends to cover nearly the entire back side of my vest as well as the reflective material, making a sleeveless vest essentially useless for rear visibility (unless I wear it over the backpack). Also, hand-turn signals as well as side and upper visibility are significantly better with sleeved vests. The vest is made of high quality material (it is made in China however) and has stood up to numerous washings without issue. The mesh is coarse, so you will not notice you're wearing it during intense aerobic activity. The reflective stripes are 2" wide with over 10 feet of reflective material, and the lime-green color is highly visible.Definitely an important piece of safety equipment, especially if you are wearing dark clothing underneath, and better than anything you'll find in a bike shop!TIP: Prices on these vests seem to vary greatly depending on the size; some sizes are half the price of other sizes.

Very nice quality for the price . Bought for my 12 year old son to bike ride. Can't miss seeing him in it. Small/Med size fit perfect and he is a big kid so I guess it runs big.
