Why the Venture Gear Overwatch earns range and jobsite duty

Outdoor work and range time need both glare control and real impact protection, and ordinary sunglasses deliver only the first. The Overwatch lists Z87+ impact in a wrap-style tactical frame - anti-fog treated polycarbonate, metal hinge, soft nosepiece, rubber temple grips - in black, OD green or urban gray. As safety goggles go, this is the rated-outdoor pick, and the best safety glasses guide and the anti-fog guide put it in context. It cuts glare without giving up the rating.

Safety first: impact protection and splash protection are different ratings — for a chemical splash hazard you need a sealed, indirect-vent goggle carrying the D3 splash marking, and neither open glasses nor a goggle of undocumented vent type should be assumed splash-rated. This listing does not document every marking, so confirm the Z87.1 impact marking, the vent type, and any D3 designation on the listing before assigning it to a rated hazard, and choose eyewear by the hazard assessment — not by looks.

What the Venture Gear Overwatch listing documents

From the listing: ANSI Z87+ impact protection; anti-fog polycarbonate lenses; a wrap frame with metal hinge, soft nosepiece and rubber temple tips; and three frame colors. These are safety sunglasses and tactical eyewear credentials as a Z87 sunglasses. This record is thin on documented specifications, so treat the listing as the source of truth: confirm the Z87.1 marking, vent type, lens coating and sizing there before assigning it to rated work, and never assume a marking the listing does not show — an undocumented spec is an unowned risk.

How the Venture Gear Overwatch compares

Eye protection is a range, not a single answer, so weigh this one against the neighbors before standardizing: the Pyramex Venture II, the Uvex Genesis, the KleenGuard Nemesis V30, the NoCry OTG goggles, the Sellstrom Odyssey II goggles. Matching seal, coverage, fit-over needs and coatings to the hazard beats picking by style, and the construction eyewear guide and the mechanics eyewear guide walk through that decision by trade.

Building out eye protection

Eyewear works as a program: open glasses for general impact, sealed goggles where debris or splash demand a seal, tints matched to light, and anti-fog matched to the environment — and because eye injuries arrive in a blink, the right pair has to already be on the face, which makes availability, comfort and fit every bit as protective as the rating stamped on the lens. Browse the safety glasses, eye protection, anti-fog safety glasses, clear-lens safety glasses, foam-lined safety glasses collections; and read the lens tint guide and the laboratory eyewear guide to map coverage by task.

Where it fits and crew orders

The Overwatch suits ranges, outdoor trades and driving-heavy field roles — compare it with the Uvex Stealth OTG goggles, browse the wider indoor-outdoor safety glasses and head & eye protection ranges, and match lens tint to your actual light using the tint guide. Frequently asked questions

What is the Venture Gear Overwatch?

A Overwatch tactical safety sunglasses.

Are safety sunglasses real PPE?

When they carry the Z87+ impact marking, yes - tinted lenses in a rated frame protect like clear safety glasses while cutting glare. Confirm the marking on the listing.

Which lens tint should I pick?

Gray keeps colors true in bright sun; amber boosts contrast in flat light; clear is for indoors. See our lens tint guide and match tint to the light you actually work in.

Are they good for shooting?

Wrap-style rated sunglasses are popular on ranges for impact coverage and glare control; confirm the impact marking and coverage wrap on the listing.

Do they block UV?

Polycarbonate lenses inherently block most UV; confirm the specific UV claim on the listing rather than assuming a rating.

Will they fog outdoors?

Anti-fog treatment helps in humid or sweaty conditions; airflow through a wrap frame does most of the work outdoors.

Can I get them in different frames?

Confirm the frame and lens color options on the listing; multiple frame colors let a crew standardize one model across preferences.

When do I replace them?

When lenses scratch or frames loosen - damage degrades both optics and impact performance, and sunglasses live hard lives in trucks and pockets.

What do Z87.1 markings mean?

ANSI Z87.1 markings on the lens and frame document impact rating (Z87+), splash (D3), dust (D4) and other protections. Buy by the markings on the listing, not the product photo, and confirm them on arrival.

How do I stop fogging?

Anti-fog coatings help, but airflow, fit and wiping habits matter too; keep lenses clean with lens-safe wipes and replace scratched lenses, since scratches scatter light and weaken impact performance.

How should safety eyewear fit?

Close to the face with even contact and no pressure points - gaps admit debris and fogging follows poor airflow balance. Try the fit with any other PPE worn at the same time.

How do I order for a crew?

Quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account - volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations. The bulk-ordering walkthrough is linked in our site footer.

Initial thoughts out of the package. Updated
Update 23 Sep 2019I purchased a second set. Overall I was very satisfied with the safety glasses. They look great and feel good on your face. My last pair I scratched the lenses while working under my truck. I put them on top of my head then smacked them into the transmission housing no scratches on my head though. I kept wearing them though until I was getting out of the back of a van and tripped face first into the back of a hard plastic seat. My eyes were saved my face a little marked up but worse the hinge on the glasses broke. Just a clumsy fall and they took the brunt of it. So, I just got around to replacing them and for the price, style, and color I wanted them same thing. The plastic is resilient, the hinges seem to be the weakest point.Quick rating: 1-10 (worst-best)Out of the box - overall: 7Quality: 6 update - 7Value: 8 update - 9Style: 7 update - 8Comfort: 8Tint: 6 update - 7Safety(opinion only): 7My star rating is based off of purchase experience, overall thoughts on value, features, and happiness with the product.Detailed review:I purchased these sunglasses to eventually replace a pair of cheap sunglasses I picked up over a year ago. I liked the style and color options available and the safety specs. The price was appealing as well. I have a habit of losing my expensive name brand sunglasses it seems and the cheap ones stick around somehow. These seemed to emulate what I am looking for in a higher quality pair without the hefty price tag.Upon opening the box they come packaged in a sturdy clear clamshell blister pack. It is easy to open no knife or scissors needed. The glasses were in perfect condition with no scratches. Included is a soft bag that will also work to clean your lenses. The frames are flexible but not a soft plastic so not sure they would survive you sitting on them by accident just yet, give me a week and I may be able to confirm or deny. All the edges seem rounded and without any places that might irritate or scratch your face. The arms swing open smoothly with a bit of pressure and stay in place. Would like to see subdued hinges but that's just a personal preference. Hinges are metal and should be durable. Lenses are sturdy in the frame. A rubberized coating on the nose and arms should help keep them in place on your face.On my face they feel comfortable and snug enough not to fall off during most activity. I will try them on a run and bike ride to see if those thoughts change. Lenses have good clarity and the amber tint should do well on all but the brightest days.So far I like the way they look and feel. I generally need to be closer to the medium/large size as small frames dont fit the width of my face well. I will try these out over the next week or two and conclude my thoughts on comfort and fit. I will also follow up if I feel there are issues with durability. So far these are a good purchase and I would recommend them to a friend. I will deffinitly be trying other models of sunglasses from them.

low cost and very good...and exceptionally durable
I like these. They were a low cost with the safety ratings and style I wanted. Not sure about the anti-fog lens...condensation forms on anything - these are no exception. I would say the extra wide arm, helping to create a more protected area around your eyes, also prevents air movement and has at times encouraged fogging. I still like them though. They have spent many hot days baking on the dash of my truck in direct sun and have not deformed or had any of the soft rubberized material become become gummy. They have been very durable and would buy them again.**UPDATE -12/31/2020** After 2.5 years (3 summers), all of the original comments hold true - especially their materials durability after being on my truck dash. If they are not on my face, these stay on the dash of my Ram 2500. It get hot in this location during the summer, yet the materials used on these sunglasses have held up. No deformation or deterioration of the soft rubberized pieces. There are now a few lens scratches, so I will be buying another pair of these.

Great glasses. 4 year review.
These glasses fit me well and offer the protection I need. The impact resistance is what drew me to them. They get this resistance from a thin layer of plastic on the inside and outside like pretty much any safety glass. After having mine for about 4 years this layer has started to peel. I have worn them everywhere during daylight hours almost every day for 4 years. Driving, yard work, shooting, working, everywhere, everything. I still like them. I don't think they owe me anything. I'm on the product page now to order a new pair and thought I'd leave a review. They look a little wonky now but they still work fine as normal sunglasses. If I wanted to I could probably peel the rest of the plastic off.I am assuming that the impact resistance on the peeled areas is now compromised so I'm going to replace them with a new pair. For less than twenty bucks I'm still happy with them. Most people will probably lose them long before this happens which is why I won't buy a pair of more expensive glasses.I reluctantly took one star away because of the peeling but realistically it's a 5 star product. How long should a pair of sunglasses last? I am here replacing them so it's not fair to give it 5 stars...

Incredible value for a great product
I don’t write many reviews but I had to write one about these glasses. I lost a pair I’d purchased from Sheetz that were shatter-proof. I work in landscaping and can be pretty tough on glasses. I found these and the price was amazing! I got them super quick and I absolutely love them.I have a regular sized head about a 7” in fitted hats. These are very snug but not uncomfortable. The rubber sides make them slip resistant if I get sweaty. Lenses are excellent. I’m usually an Oakley or Dragon guy but these are incredibly valuable. I am not doing any stung trimming yet but the shape of the frame should do a good job of protection. If you’re looking for a good piece of eyewear at an incredible price that provides certified protection, this is your product! I will buy another pair soon.

Excellent sunglasses so far
I've had these for a couple of months now and they are great. Originally I bought them thinking I would wear them to the shooting range but I liked them so much that they replaced the sunglasses that I was wearing daily. They fit good, are comfortable and offer good eye protection. The only concern that I had was that the hinges looked a little cheap but so far they are holding up well and I've been very impressed for the price.

Cool glasses, need to check`em for scratch resistance.
Today my order arrived. As usual - excellent delivery from Amazon, quick and efficiently. The glasses are well packed, in a hard plastic box.A soft bag for glasses, it is also a cleaning cloth at the same time, included. The glasses arrived in perfect condition, free from scratches or other defects. The first impression is that the glasses are a little heavier than usual, but not so heavy as to cause inconvenience.Despite the weight they sit on the nose quite comfortably.Very clear and even glass without artifacts. The flexible wishbones of the glasses will prevent them from breaking. The metal hinges on the wishbones look secure, I hope they are.The material of the frame and glasses is very high quality to the touch.I ordered Black frames with Forest Grey lenses - they are quite dark, suitable for bright sun, but on a cloudy day they will probably be dark.I'll go see how they show themselves at the shooting range.

Best ballistic rated eye wear for the price.
I had been looking for fair priced eye wear that was ballistic rated and looked sharp for daily use as well as at the range. These fit the bill. They meet all the safety specs I was looking for and looked good without looking too "tactical". I don't expect these to hold up for multiple years but for the price I accept that. I had been looking at Edge and Magpul's eye wear but again, the price, quality and look sold me on these. One thing I absolutely love about these is that they fit with my 5.11 hats perfectly. One issue I have with a lot of the safety eye wear is that they don't fit well with my hats and I have to raise the hat up slightly for the eye wear to fit comfortably. Non issue with these. The only real downside I find with these are the hinges. The stick out a couple of millimeters on the inside of the eye wear. They don't touch my temples but I still would rather a collapsible style. Overall, I am very happy with finding these and will buy more down the road. Would definitely recommend these.

well made but small
Nicely made but small. I normally wear around a 60 mm frame lens, hat size 7 1/4 US. These glasses are very tight and small. They fit more like swim goggles than shooting glasses.
