Why the Amprobe CO2-100 reads the room

Stuffy rooms, complaint-prone offices and ventilation questions all come down to numbers, and CO2 concentration is the fastest proxy for how well a space is ventilated. The CO2-100 puts that number in hand, alongside the temperature and humidity that complete the IAQ picture. As gas detectors go, this is the IAQ spot-check pick, and the gas detection guide and the combustible vs leak detector guide put it in context. It turns a ventilation argument into a measurement.

Safety first: a gas instrument alarms or reads; it does not protect. In an IDLH or oxygen-deficient atmosphere you must evacuate and use supplied-air or an SCBA — a handheld sniffer pinpoints leaks and a meter reads concentrations, but neither guards an occupied space the way fixed monitoring and ventilation do. Calibrate and bump-test on the manufacturer schedule, confirm the sensor type and range on the listing, and treat every reading as a reason to investigate, not a substitute for a monitoring program.

What the Amprobe CO2-100 listing documents

From the listing: a handheld CO2 meter; temperature and humidity readings; and an IAQ-survey form factor. These are carbon dioxide meter and CO2 IAQ meter credentials as a handheld gas meter. Confirm every specification on the listing before relying on it, and record what you deploy — an instrument or device is only as defensible as the documentation and maintenance schedule behind it, so log the model, the service dates and the checks the same way you log the rest of the safety program.

How the Amprobe CO2-100 compares

One tool rarely covers every job, so weigh this one against the range before standardizing: the TopTes PT520A, the TopTes PT210S, the TopTes RT-389, the Forensics leak detector, the TopTes PT-830S. Matching the technology and format to the actual task beats buying on brand alone, and the best 4-gas monitor guide and the diffusion vs pump guide walk through the decision.

Building out the toolkit

Detection and control work as a system — service instruments to find problems, monitors to watch spaces, accessories to keep everything verified, and lockout hardware to keep energy controlled during the fix — and the weak link is usually not the tool but the routine around it, because an instrument that skips its bump test or a device that skips its inspection carries authority it no longer deserves, so schedule the checks with the same seriousness as the purchase. Browse the gas leak detectors, portable gas detectors, personal gas detectors, area gas monitors, calibration accessories collections; and read the personal monitor guide to plan the wider program.

Where it fits and crew orders

The CO2-100 suits facility teams, inspectors and HVAC techs answering ventilation questions — compare it with the Norlab cal gas, browse the wider carbon dioxide detectors and 4-gas monitors ranges, and remember a spot meter surveys spaces; continuous hazards need fixed monitoring. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

PERFECT CO2/Relative Humidity Meter
Purchased to measure CO2 levels in stores and restaurants in order to identify possible higher COVID risk buildings due to poor air flow/recirculation so we can avoid them. I also discovered that my apartment has high levels of CO2 due to the fact that I beefed up the insulation in the attic and therefore the AC system rarely runs. If indeed there is a positive relationship between CO2 levels and the higher potential for floating COVID virus in the air, then this meter is REALLY handy to rate the possible COVID risk of breathing in the virus. My findings show that outdoor areas (Such as around outdoor swimming pools) have very low (ambient 500 PPM) CO2 levels, and that the local grocery store has higher CO2 levels (sub-standard AC?) than the local Walmart and Costco. The checkout areas have even lower levels because they are close to the entry doors, which is good news for everyone. This meter is easy to use. The only trick is that the on/off button needs to be touched very briefly and exactly to cycle the unit off. Will take it on my next flight if I ever fly again. Great science project/learning experiment and this meter could save your life if you take it everywhere like I did. Be smart and know your risks!Measuring outside air, the CO2 level should be very low, and i feel comfortable using that as a baseline measurement. A simple way to check the meter is to take it outside, read it, then take it into a room in your house, reading should go way up. No reading change indicates the meter is NOT working. So this is NOT a Carbon Monoxcide (deadly gas) detector, it is basically a people exhaling detector (enter your joke here), so you are detecting Carbin Dioxide (CO2). Not a deadly gas, but if the percentage gets too high, it could effect your sleep quality and blood oxygen level.

CO2 the elixure of life.
Works great. Check our office 2000 square Feet all open with dividers. Air conditioned with 7 people in the space. CO2 level at noon at 87 Deg F. the meter read from 1000 up to 1200 ppm. Out side raining and 75 Deg. F. At back loading dock in open dock door inside shielded from the rain the Amprobe Meter reading was 380 ppm. Reason for difference is the people breath out CO2 and fill the room. The back dock area with no one to make CO2. The CO2 is very solluable in water and is dissolved by the rain with the elevation the same. CO2 is heavier than air and so it goes to the lowest level in the area. The average level in normal open atmosphere is 400 PPM. This is a good example of what is really happening with CO2. This testing of nature is a good example of CO2 world wide. The green prospers with this example of nature. Photosynthesis occurs on plants and the sun heat is the worker breaking down CO2 into carbon and oxygen. The carbon is obsorbed in the green leaves of trees and plants into carbolic acid and gives off Oxygen Gas (O2) to the air. The carbon in water turns into carbolic acid and the roots take this to make complex organic compounds. Wood is formed from this molecular reaction. This meter proves that nature is a complex organic reaction supporting life on this planet. We love this meter for it tells us more about what is keeping us alive.

Very Good CO2 Meter
This is a very good meter for the price. The unit comes in a nice hard shell carrying case, and the digital display has all of the items clearly labeled. Using it to check CO2 levels in a small greenhouse. The only issue I have is that while the main functions of each button are clearly labeled, some of the more advanced functions, like calibration, are not labeled at all. So don't lose the instructions.I would recommend this meter.

Great basic machine and speedy postage = impressed!
Great for a basic machine and does everything it says it will simply, clearly and effectively. So far it's every bit as good as a similar CO2 monitor that cost 3 times more. Both are used concurrently as educational tools so durability will be real the test, so, 4 stars for the machine. Postage was amazingly fast- from the supplier in USA to Melbourne, Australia in 4 days. Wow, that earned the 5th star! So far we're very impressed.

Just So You Know
There is no calibration certificate with this probe and you cannot get one from Fluke. Go to a cal shop and pay for one? Additionally, look at the accuracy specs. It’ll get you in the ballpark, but humidity is +/- 3% and CO2 is +/- 30PPM or 5% of reading. With specs like these and no cal sheet, you might be better off buying a knock-off clone for 1/2 the price.

the Amprobe CO2-100 Carbon Dioxide Meter is useful in establishing actual data as to why light headaches ...
the Amprobe CO2-100 Carbon Dioxide Meter is useful in establishing actual data as to why light headaches etc. develop. Having the Dew Point readily available resolves many perceptions of humidity vs comfort. Although the product is a bit pricey, it is quite functional and with a long 4xAA battery run-time. The owner has to keep in mind that airflow is needed thru the sensing probe on top. Otherwise the probe housing temp can affect the sensed temp readings. The owner may need to create an airflow (wave it around) if not measuring temps in an air duct or at the exhaust of an airduct (house/car/industry).

works great. Measures CO2
So far, works great. Measures CO2, temp, and humidity. Readings are almost instant and definitely accurate. Turn on CO2 and the meter climbs steady. The controls are a bit clumsy but they work if you take the time to read the manual and set it up correctly. Couldn't find a way to turn it off but it auto-turns off at 20 minutes and in the end I actually found that helpful so I can monitor it over time and in multiple locations. Surprised at how the CO2 levels outdoors are usually half of what they are indoors.
