EDITORIAL REVIEW: 4.5/5 — WC Safety Review of the Uvex Astro OTG 3001, the over-the-glasses frame that fits over most prescription eyewear.
Editorial assessment by the WC Safety Editorial Team, based on published Uvex specifications and category fit. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Uvex Astro OTG 3001 is an over-the-glasses (OTG) safety frame designed for prescription eyeglass wearers, rated ANSI Z87.1+. It wraps over most small-to-medium prescription frames without contact, eliminating the need for prescription safety inserts, and offers Uvextreme anti-fog — available in Clear and Gray lenses across black, navy, and blue frames. Rx wearers get compliant impact protection without switching to contacts or ordering prescription safety lenses.

Why the Uvex Astro OTG fits over your glasses

Eyeglass wearers on a jobsite face a bad choice without OTG: prescription safety lenses cost money and wait time, and contacts aren't for everyone. The Astro OTG removes the choice — Z87.1+ impact protection worn straight over the glasses you already have, with a cavity sized to clear most small-to-medium Rx frames without touching the lenses, and Uvextreme anti-fog so the sealed-in air doesn't fog you out. Our full Uvex Astro OTG review rates it 4.5/5, and the safety glasses buyer's guide covers when OTG beats prescription lenses.

Safety first: the Astro OTG is impact-and-debris protection, not a sealed goggle — it is not rated against a chemical splash hazard, fine airborne dust, or vapor, which require sealed OTG goggles or a face shield per your hazard assessment. OTG fit is critical: verify it seats and closes over your specific prescription frame, since a frame too large to fit leaves gaps that defeat the protection. Choose eyewear against measured hazards with the when-do-you-need-safety-glasses guide.

What the listing documents

From the published specs: ANSI Z87.1+ high-impact rating; an over-the-glasses (OTG) frame that wraps over most small-to-medium prescription frames without contact and eliminates prescription safety inserts; Uvextreme anti-fog; Clear and Gray lenses across black, navy, and blue frames; base model S2500C. As uvex safety glasses go, the Astro is the OTG member — a genuine over the glasses safety glasses and a true otg safety glasses for Rx wearers.

Choosing your Astro OTG variant

Match the tint to the light, worn over your clear prescription lenses: Clear Uvextreme anti-fog from the clear-lens collection for indoor and humid work, and Gray for outdoor glare — the clear-vs-smoke lens guide settles the outdoor call. Since OTG frames fog more, the Uvextreme variants pair with the anti-fog guide and anti-fog collection. Compare the wider OTG field in the over-the-glasses collection.

Where the Astro OTG sits, and other OTG options

The Astro OTG is Uvex's over-the-glasses frame; non-OTG Uvex options include the flagship Genesis XC and the slim Protege. Among other brands' OTG frames, the MCR Law OG1 OTG and MCR Klondike OG2 OTG are alternatives to compare against your Rx frame. Browse the full Uvex safety glasses collection, and the best safety glasses 2026 roundup places the line against other brands.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

OTG suits eyeglass-wearing crews and visitor programs across trades — the construction and manufacturing guides rank frames by task, and for prescription wearers weighing fit, the small-face guide covers smaller Rx frames underneath. Where the hazard exceeds impact — splash, dust, vapor — step to a sealed OTG goggle from the safety goggles collection or the broader eye protection collection. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account — volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

Works great for lab class
I bought these glasses off of Amazon because my college stopped selling them in person and I am glad I did. Not only were these glasses cheaper, but they are a better brand than the one being offered by the university. Some safety notes: these glasses meet the Z87 rating, have solid side shields and a top ledge. Most importantly, they are for use over prescription lenses and thus are extremely wide. Since this is a standard Uvex pair, they have adjustable lens inclination and temple length (the area behind the ear and how much tilt you want on the glasses).Extra side notes: The S2500 (this model) is the black frame, S2510 is the blue frame, S520 is the yellow/black frame, and the S2530 is the red/white/blue frame. These glasses are comfortable, were accepted in my lab class, and protected my lenses as well as my eyes. Came in a well packaged box with instructions and warranty info. Would recommend

Amazing!
With whats going on now, I’ve decided to look for a goggles to use for my job, i always have problem wearing with the googles that’s provided for us because its rubber, i felt my head is becoming so tight. Rubber for the N95 mask. Rubber for the face shield, then the goggles. Too much that i got headache before the end of the shift. And having that face shield , its difficult to insert an iv or draw blood , but this goggles , i am telling you its comfortable, you put over your reading glasses on it , still fits, and No fog, its clear; i even forget that i am wearing one, and i just clean it with mix bleach spray and cold water; then dry up .for me i am comfortable with it with no moisture, but if you feel like those googles with rubber that holds tight makes you feel protected and served its purpose you go for it. this is to each is own, keep yourself safe first especially if you are working for cases dealing with too much secretions. Self safety first.

Well designed over the glasses safety glasses
Well designed over the glasses safety glasses.Good value - works for the intended purpose. Clear lenses and side shield. As a compassions to standard safety glasses note that these sit farther from your face so don’t seem to offer as much protection at the bottom where more typical safety glasses are tighter fitting but this appears to be due to the over the glasses design. Recommend this product.

Decent DIY safety eyewear, but not particularly for healthcare workers
Decent enough safety eyewear for DIY work; certainly not great protection for health care workers--too much leakage. Not particularly comfortable. Corrective eyeglasses do fit underneath, just.

LOVE THEM!
These are EXACTLY what I wanted! I wanted the protection of a face shield without the bulkiness. They are comfortable, and unlike some that "claim" to be anti-fog, these really are anti-fog. They appear to be durable and well made for the money. I like that my eyes are fully protected and, with the addition of my mask, I feel comfortable to be out and about. I ordered 1 pair and as soon as I got them, immediately order 4 more to give to my family!!

Great Glasses for Healthcare Workers
I ordered my coworker and I each a pair of these glasses since we wear prescription lenses in hopes that these would be better than the ones that we had been using at work. The fact that they're MADE IN USA was another reason why I was glad to purchase these. They're extremely comfortable and fit over my glasses with ease (I wear the larger frames due to personal preference, and will attempt to post a picture later of me in them when I get one). The anti-fog thing is also a major plus, as that has been a constant battle with my glasses and other safety glasses since the COVID fiasco started. My coworker enjoys hers as well. She says hers slide a little on her face, but the ends of the legs can slide in/out a little to help with that.
