Doesn't have same screw spacing as old unit, WHY?
These are fine and replacing the older rectangular kidde units in my house. After 10 years you'll get a random beep. Kept looking at all the smoke detectors then realized it was the previous version this thing. Display says end (end of life). So went about buying two of the new model (ver.6) as my wife thought they looked nicer with rounded features. Price has gone up steeply in 10 years, so ok, but the real kicker -and kidde - if your listening, why change it by 4mm?!?! The old units were 3" center to center. Since I have these mounted in drywall, they're in anchors. 3" is about 76mm. Per the instructions, these are 72mm center to center. WHY! You have room to keep your old spacing to swap out new units.You're saying, big deal right? Well it's so dang close to the old size that drilling a new hole so close to the old one without blowing out the original hole is a challenge. I decided to leave the old anchor in, but to get the new anchor to seat, had to trim some of the old anchor flange because they would overlap. (See pics). If they had to change the spacing they should have made it a bigger difference, having it so close (~1/8") is just annoying. Plus the units are no longer perfectly centered, but that's minor.This is a non issue for new installation, and as annoying as this is, in 10 years I hope the version in 2036 is still using 72mm.
