EDITORIAL REVIEW β€” Little Giant King Kombo Pro 6-Ft Multi-Position Ladder, Step/Extension/Leaning Modes

Assessed on the standards the product is actually certified to and on how the format fits a working shift, by Steven Eaton, WC Safety editor.

Amazon customer rating: 4.8 / 5 - WC Safety review of the Little Giant King Kombo Pro 6-Ft Multi-Position Ladder, Step/Extension/Leaning Modes.
Written by Steven Eaton, WC Safety Editorial, from the published Little Giant listing. The score above is the live Amazon customer rating captured at review time - not a WC Safety test result. We did not laboratory-test this product.

The Little Giant King Kombo Pro 6-Ft Multi-Position Ladder, Step/Extension/Leaning Modes is one of our picks for the ladder lineup. Everything below comes straight from the manufacturer's published listing - specs, capacities, and dimensions are theirs, not ours.

Ladder selection starts with the duty rating - the ANSI Type stamped on the label is the working-load ceiling including you, your tools, and anything carried. Fiberglass rails are the default around electrical work because they are non-conductive when clean and dry. Set up per the label and OSHA 1926.1053, and keep three points of contact.

Key details, quoted from the manufacturer's published listing:

  • 3-IN-1 JOBSITE POWERHOUSE: The original 3-in-1 ladderβ€”extension, leaning, and stepladder positions in one. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a jobsite advantage. Built to save time, boost safety, and keep pros moving.
  • THE MOST AWARDED LADDER IN HISTORY: The King Kombo has earned its title as the most awarded ladder ever, trusted by pros across industries for its unmatched versatility, durability, and safety.
  • ONE MOVE, FULL CONTROL: The Grip-N-Go Hinge lets users switch ladder positions in one smooth motion with just one hand. Built for quick changes and no excuses.
  • CURRENT-PROOF CONFIDENCE: Working hot? Our exclusive fiberglass blend is lightweight, jobsite-tough, and built to block live current.
  • BUILT FOR THE STUDS: Straight-line legs fit between studs and narrow framing with zero hassle. Designed for tight spots, where the real work happens.

What to check before you buy

On ladder work the ladder itself is the control, not a last line of defence. The duty rating has to cover the worker plus tools plus everything carried up, the height has to suit the task without standing on the top cap, and the setup has to be right: 29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(5)(i) sets the 4:1 angle for non-self-supporting ladders on construction sites, and 29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1) and 1910.23(c)(11) require side rails to extend at least 3 feet above the landing. Where the work can be done from a platform, scaffold or lift instead, that is the better control β€” a fall arrest system only catches the fall you did not design out.

Duty rating, not just height
The ANSI duty rating covers the worker plus tools plus materials. Type IAA is rated 375 lb, IA 300 lb, I 250 lb, II 225 lb and III 200 lb. Add up everything that goes up the ladder.
Material vs. the hazard
Fiberglass side rails are non-conductive and are the default anywhere near live electrical work. Aluminum is lighter but conducts.
Working height vs. ladder length
Usable height is always less than the ladder length once you account for the overlap on extension ladders and the top steps you should not stand on.
Feet and footing
Slip-resistant feet only work on a firm, level base. Soft ground, sloped surfaces and smooth tile all need attention before the first step.
