Editor's take (4.7/5):

The Streamlight 68750 Dualie 3AA Intrinsically Safe Flashlight is a versatile hazardous-location light: a UL and MSHA-listed Class I Div 1 dual-light with a 171 m spot, a wide flood, and a 245-lumen combined mode — batteries in the box. It uses a belt clip rather than magnets (that's the Nightstick dual-light), but for a mining-rated work light it's an easy pick.

Streamlight 68750 Dualie 3AA Intrinsically Safe Flashlight overview

The Streamlight 68750 Dualie 3AA Intrinsically Safe Flashlight is a multi-function hazardous-location light with two beams in one compact body. It's UL-listed intrinsically safe, rated Class I and II Division 1, Groups A-G, Class III, Zone 0 IIC Ex ia T4, and MSHA permissible (tested in methane-air mixtures) — so it clears mining as well as oil, gas, and chemical work. Three modes cover any task: a 140-lumen spot that throws about 171 meters, a 140-lumen floodlight for close work, and a 245-lumen combined mode, with batteries (3 AA) included. For where it fits among job-site lights, see our best work lights guide and the work lighting collection.

A couple of details worth reading correctly. The 245 lumens is the combined spot-plus-flood mode — the individual spot and flood are 140 lumens each, so don't expect 245 from a single beam. And the 68750 carries a spring-loaded, snag-free belt clip rather than a magnet; if you want magnetic hands-free mounting, that's a separate Dualie model or the magnet-equipped Nightstick XPP-5422GMX (235/130/300 lumens). The Nightstick XPP-5420G is a single-beam handheld if you don't need dual-light at all. Because these lights work the same atmospheres as gas monitoring, most crews carry both — our best personal gas detector guide covers the pairing.

Safety note — intrinsic safety stops ignition, not bad air.

This light is certified so it won't ignite a flammable atmosphere — but that is all intrinsic safety does. A hazardous location can still be oxygen-deficient or hold gas at IDLH (immediately dangerous to life or health) levels, so pair the light with atmospheric testing, ventilation, and, where required, supplied air or an SCBA. The certification removes an ignition source; it is not a substitute for a gas monitor or a confined-space entry program.

Where it fits

It's a versatile, non-igniting light for oil and gas, refining, chemical processing, utilities, mining, and confined-space or hazardous-location work — the dual-light design means one tool covers both long-range and close-up needs. As part of a hazardous-location kit it pairs with atmospheric monitoring from the gas-detector lineup — the 4-gas vs single-gas and combustible-gas detector guides help match the meter — and with intrinsically safe respiratory gear like the 3M Versaflo IS PAPR when the air itself is the hazard.

Pros & cons

Pros
  • UL & MSHA Class I/II Div 1, Groups A-G
  • Dual-light: 140 spot (171 m) / 140 flood / 245 combined
  • Batteries (3 AA) included; long 18 hr single-beam runtime
  • Waterproof, dust-tight, impact resistant to 2 m
Keep in mind
  • 245 lm is the combined mode, not a single beam
  • Belt clip, not a magnet (that's a separate model)
  • Waterproof but not dive rated
  • Intrinsic safety ≠ safe atmosphere; still test the air

Frequently asked questions

What safety certification does the Streamlight 68750 hold?

It is UL-listed intrinsically safe, rated Class I and II Division 1, Groups A-G, Class III, plus CL 1 Zone 0 IIC Ex ia T4. It is also MSHA permissible, tested for intrinsic safety in methane-air mixtures, which covers both flammable gas and combustible dust hazardous locations.

What are the output modes and lumens?

Three modes: a 140-lumen spot beam (about 18 hours runtime, 171 m throw), a 140-lumen floodlight (about 18 hours), and a combined spot-and-flood mode at 245 lumens (about 9 hours). The 245 figure is the combined output, not a single beam.

How far does the beam reach?

The spot beam is rated to about 171 meters (561 feet) at 7,300 candela through a smooth parabolic reflector, while the floodlight is a wide 18 m close-up beam. Run either alone or both together depending on the task.

What batteries does it use, and are they included?

It runs on three AA alkaline batteries, and they are included in the box. Use the approved battery type to keep the intrinsic-safety rating valid.

Does the 68750 have a magnet?

No. The 68750 uses a spring-loaded, snag-free belt clip rather than a magnet. Streamlight offers a separate magnet-equipped Dualie model if you need magnetic hands-free mounting, so match the model number to the feature you want.

What does "intrinsically safe" mean?

It means the light is engineered so it cannot release enough energy to ignite a specified flammable atmosphere, even in a fault. It's a certified UL rating, not a marketing term, and it's different from the looser phrase "explosion-proof."

Is it waterproof and rugged?

It is waterproof but not dive rated, dust-tight, and impact resistant to 2 meters. It handles rain, washdown, and drops, but is not meant for submersion at depth.

What does the MSHA rating add?

MSHA permissibility means it is accepted for underground mining, having been tested for intrinsic safety in methane-air mixtures specifically. Combined with the UL Class I/II ratings, that makes it suitable for mining as well as oil, gas, and chemical work.

How does it compare to the Nightstick XPP-5422GMX?

Both are intrinsically safe dual-lights. The Dualie 68750 runs 140/140/245 lumens with a belt clip, MSHA listing, and included AA batteries; the Nightstick XPP-5422GMX runs 235/130/300 lumens with dual magnets. Choose on whether you want magnets and a brighter spot, or MSHA and included batteries.

Does being intrinsically safe make it safe to enter any hazardous area?

No. Intrinsic safety only means the light will not be an ignition source. It does nothing about breathable air or other entry hazards, so it never replaces atmospheric testing, ventilation, or a confined-space entry program.

What's the difference between spot, flood, and combined?

Spot is a focused long-throw beam for distance; flood is a wide, even beam for close-up work; combined runs both for maximum output. Two body switches let you pick the mode that fits the task.

What jobs is it built for?

Oil and gas, refining, chemical processing, utilities, and — thanks to the MSHA listing — underground mining, plus confined-space and hazardous-location work that needs a versatile non-igniting light.
