The Klein Tools 60105 Hard Hat is a comfortable vented cap-style lid: ANSI Type 1 top-impact, a one-handed ratchet, and a washable padded liner. Read the class carefully — vented means Class C, so no electrical rating. For work near energized conductors, use a non-vented Class E hard hat instead. Browse the hard hats range.
Klein Tools 60105 Hard Hat overview
The Klein Tools 60105 Hard Hat is a vented, cap-style hard hat rated ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type 1 (top impact), Class C. Its PC/ABS shell also meets EN 12492 front, back and side impact tests, it runs a 4-point ratchet suspension (sizes 6.5 to 8) with a padded, sweat-wicking, machine-washable liner, and it has accessory slots on the front, back and both sides. It weighs about 1 lb and ships with reflective stickers and a user guide. See our best cap-style hard hat guide and the hard hats collection.
The one thing to get right before you buy: vented means Class C, and Class C has no electrical rating. The vents that keep your head cool also make the shell conductive, so the 60105 is not for electrical work or anywhere near energized conductors — for that you need a non-vented Class E hat like the Klein non-vented full-brim Class E or the KARBN full-brim Class E. Also note the ANSI rating is Type 1 (top impact); it meets EN 12492 side-impact tests too, but that isn't the same as an ANSI Type 2 lateral rating, so match the rating to your job spec. Pair the accessory slots with a clip-on rechargeable headlamp.
A vented hard hat is Class C and carries no electrical rating — never wear the 60105 near energized conductors; use a non-vented Class E hat for electrical work. Confirm the ANSI Type and Class match your job's hazard assessment (this is Type 1, top impact), inspect the shell and suspension for cracks or wear and replace the hat after any significant impact. When you're working at height, wear it with a chin strap so it stays on, alongside your personal fall arrest system and the rest of your PPE.
Where the Klein Tools 60105 Hard Hat fits
It's the comfortable, vented general-purpose lid for construction, carpentry, warehousing, landscaping and hot-weather work where the hazard is a top impact and there's no electrical exposure — the venting is a real comfort win when you're exerting in the heat. Where it's not the tool is electrical or utility work (use a Class E hat), a site that requires ANSI Type 2 lateral-impact protection, or a job needing all-around brim shade (a full-brim hat is better there). Round out head-to-toe protection with matching safety glasses and, for dust, a P100 respirator — our construction hard hat and hard hats ranked guides help you compare.

Frequently asked questions
Does the vented 60105 protect against electrical hazards?
No — this is the most important thing to know. The 60105 is vented, which makes it Class C, and Class C hard hats carry no electrical rating. Never use it for electrical work or near energized conductors. For that you need a non-vented Class E hard hat, which is tested to withstand high-voltage contact.
Is it rated for top impact or side impact?
Under ANSI Z89.1 it's Type 1, which is top-impact protection. It also meets EN 12492 front, back and side impact tests — a European climbing-helmet standard — but that EN side-impact testing isn't the same as an ANSI Type 2 rating, so if your job spec calls for ANSI Type 2 lateral protection, confirm you need a Type 2 hat.
Why is it vented, and what's the trade-off?
Adjustable vents let air move through the shell to keep your head cooler in hot or high-exertion work. The trade-off is the electrical rating: any vented hard hat is Class C with no electrical protection, so vents buy comfort at the cost of electrical use.
What does 'Class C' actually mean?
Class C is one of ANSI's electrical classes — it means the hat is conductive and offers no electrical protection (it's the class vented hats fall into). It's not a downgrade in impact protection; the impact protection comes from the Type rating. Class C simply tells you it's not for electrical hazards.
What suspension and sizing does it use?
A 4-point suspension with a ratchet-and-pivot adjustment, fitting head sizes from about 6.5 to 8. The ratchet lets you dial the fit one-handed, and the pivot helps it sit comfortably front to back.
What's the shell made of, and how heavy is it?
A PC/ABS shell — a tough polycarbonate/ABS blend — weighing about 1 lb, which is light enough for all-day wear without adding much neck strain.
Is the liner comfortable, and can I clean it?
The liner is padded, sweat-wicking and odor-resistant, and it's machine washable, so you can pull it and clean it rather than living with a grimy sweatband.
Can I attach earmuffs, a face shield or a headlamp?
Yes — it has accessory slots on the front, back and both sides, so you can add slotted earmuffs, a face shield or a clip-on headlamp. Note this model has no built-in light; the light-integrated version is a separate model.
When should I replace a hard hat?
Replace it after any significant impact even if it looks fine, and follow the manufacturer's service-life guidance — inspect the shell and suspension regularly for cracks, dents, chalking or wear, and check the date stamps inside the shell and suspension.
Does it come with reflective stickers?
Yes — reflective stickers are included, along with a user guide, so you can add visibility markings if your site calls for them.
Should I choose a cap style or a full-brim hard hat?
Cap style like the 60105 is lighter and works well with face shields and most jobs; a full-brim hat adds all-around shade from sun and shields rain and debris off your neck. Choose full-brim for outdoor sun and overhead-drip exposure, cap for general and indoor work.
Is it good for construction?
For general construction where the hazard is a top impact and there's no electrical or required lateral-impact hazard, yes — it's an ANSI Type 1 hat. For electrical work choose a Class E hat, and if your site requires ANSI Type 2, choose a Type 2 hat.
Reviewed by Steven Eaton, WC Safety. Specifications reflect Klein Tools' published data for the 60105; it is ANSI Z89.1 Type 1, Class C — vented, with no electrical rating — so it is not for electrical work (use a non-vented Class E hat) and it is a top-impact Type 1 hat, not an ANSI Type 2. Match the Type and Class to your job's hazard assessment.
