GVS Elipse Half Mask Respirator Overview

The GVS Elipse Half Mask Respirator (SPR451) is a NIOSH-approved P100 half mask in the low-profile Small/Medium size, capturing at least 99.97% of airborne particles with a latex- and silicone-free medical-grade TPE facepiece.

As the GVS Elipse SPR451, this GVS SPR451 is a P100 half mask respirator and a low profile P100 respirator β€” a genuinely latex-free half mask respirator for dust and mist.

It ships with replaceable P100 filters, uses a large central non-return valve for easier breathing, adjusts with a 4-position strap, and carries a five-year shelf life. It is particulate-only as shipped; for gases, fit GVS OV/P100 or multigas filters. The larger Medium/Large size is the SPR457. Learn more in best half-face respirator and are respirator cartridges universal.

Who It Is For

Use case Fit Buyer guidance
Dust, mist & metal fume Purpose-built P100: 99.97% efficiency.
Smaller faces (S/M) Purpose-built SPR451 is Small/Medium.
Latex-sensitive workers Strong Latex- and silicone-free TPE.
Larger faces Choose M/L Use the SPR457 (M/L).
Gases or vapors Change filters Fit GVS OV/P100 or multigas.

This respirator protects only within limits. Its P100 filters remove particulate, but they do not remove gases or vapors as shipped, and no respirator adds oxygen, so no air-purifying respirator like this one may be used in an oxygen-deficient or IDLH atmosphere β€” those require a supplied-air respirator or a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). It only works on a fit-tested, clean-shaven face with medical clearance under an OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 program, and you run a user seal check each time. For organic vapor or acid gas, fit GVS Elipse OV/P100 or multigas filters rather than assuming the P100 covers gases, and use only GVS Elipse filters so the NIOSH approval stays valid. See best P100 filter comparison and P95 vs P100.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between the S/M (SPR451) and the M/L (SPR457)?

The SPR451 is the Small/Medium size and the SPR457 is the Medium/Large. Choose by the size that seals evenly on your face without gaps or pressure points. If you are between sizes, a fit test on each is the reliable way to decide.

What are the mask's dimensions?

The facepiece is compact, roughly 100 mm wide by 130 mm tall in the Small/Medium size, with a low-profile shape that keeps a wide field of view. Its flexible medical-grade TPE conforms to the face for the seal a respirator depends on.

What is the shelf life of the mask and filters?

GVS states a five-year storage life for the mask and filters when kept sealed and within their conditions. Note when you put a mask or filter into service, and do not use one past its shelf life or your program's change schedule.

Is the SPR451 facepiece reusable?

Yes. The facepiece is reusable; you replace only the P100 filters when they load up, are damaged, or reach your change schedule. Maintaining the facepiece and swapping filters is more economical over time than a fully disposable respirator.

What is the mask made of?

It is a medical-grade thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) that is latex-free, silicone-free, and odor-free. That helps workers with latex sensitivities, avoids silicone where it is not wanted, and keeps the flexible seal comfortable over a shift.

Does the low-profile design block my vision?

The Elipse is designed to sit low on the face and keep a full field of vision, which is one reason it suits work needing good downward and peripheral sight. It still must seal fully, so fit takes priority over the low profile.

Can I share the mask between workers?

A tight-fitting respirator should be personal-issue and fit-tested to the individual. Do not casually share a mask between workers; if a mask must be reassigned, clean and disinfect it per the instructions and fit-test the new user.

Does the central valve help in humid or wet work?

Yes. The large central non-return exhalation valve lowers breathing resistance and reduces moisture build-up, and the non-slip 4-position strap is made to stay put in humidity or wet conditions, which helps comfort on hot, damp jobs.

Can I use the SPR451 in an oxygen-deficient or confined space?

No. A respirator purifies air but adds no oxygen. A confined space or a low-oxygen or immediately hazardous atmosphere needs a supplied-air system or a self-contained breathing apparatus, plus confined-space entry procedures, not an air-purifying half mask.

Are the filters GVS-specific?

Yes. The Elipse uses GVS Elipse filters only, not 3M, Honeywell, or Moldex media, because the fit and the NIOSH approval are specific to the assembly. Using the wrong filter voids the approval and the protection.

How do I store the mask between shifts?

Wipe it per the GVS instructions, let it dry, and store it clean and dry in a bag or container out of direct sunlight so the seal is not distorted. Inspect the valve, seal, and filters before each use.

Can I add gas protection to the SPR451?

As shipped it is P100 particulate only. For organic vapor or multigas exposure, fit GVS Elipse OV/P100 or multigas filters in place of the P100 filters, matched to your specific hazard; a P100 alone does not remove gases.

One of the best half masks for working in the shop
The mask is comfortable, easily adjustable, and most importantly it filters dust very effectively. The filters are simple to replace and they mount securely. Wear your dust mask in the shop. Consider wearing this one.

Great for welding
Mask works great for my husband who welds full time. Flexible, good fit, easy to install new filters, and protects well from irritants in the air.

Definitely recommended
I was recently diagnosed with allergy asthma so I have zero tolerance for breathing in anything pure air but my main activity for exercise and entertainment is maintaining my yards and property in this dry SW Arizona desert. I tried paper masks from the local Ace but they don't fit, leak and interfere with my glasses. Just barely better than nothing and that wasn't good enough because it was making me sick.I went shopping on Amazon, found this with good reviews and ordered with replacement filters. I agree that the filters seem expensive but on examination they are NOT made cheaply. Acordian filter paper imbedded in soft rubber for a perfect seal. I can't tell how long they are going to last but I've already put about 25-30 hours and I can still breath through them fairly easily. There will be no doubt when they are plugged. The mask is soft rubber with an inword fold that fits really tight and you can feel it get even tighter when you inhale. Both inhale and exhale is through one way valves. All very professional. By the time your face starts to warm up from contact with the rubber it's time to rehydrate so I never had to stop due to discomfort. This is either my first or second 5 star rating as I like to be objective and not go gushing just because it arrived on time. Not only is this a very good product but also a better value, with the possible exception of the replacement filters. Maybe they market this the way they do ink jet printers. Sell the printer at cost plus and then hose you on the cartridges.

Great mask, a little expensive
This mask works great for me working in a dusty environment daily. I immediately noticed the difference, no more junk in my nose or throat/mouth getting dry. The large filters make breathing while doing physical work easy...I would say it doesn't hinder my physical activity at all. The mask seal seals well and is not uncomfortable or heavy even after hours of use...I do have a beard and still no problem.I do wish the descriptions of these masks where better. I was look at two that looked the same but had different model numbers. I had to some extra research outside of amazon to finally realize the differing model numbers where actually SIZES. This is not made very clear and I can see where some buyers might get upset ordering the wrong one. I went with the "standard" size I guess and again it seals fine. The seal follows my jaw line down ON (not over/below) the point of my chin.I took one star off because I do have concerns about longevity for such an expensive mask and I am using daily. The straps feel very cheap and for some (not me) may not even be long enough. I think a nice touch would be to include an additional strap, bonus if was a longer set. The other thing that I noticed is that the plastic "grid" that goes over the filters is one piece and where it bends between the exhaust valve and each side grid...the plastic discolored (actually came that way). You might not think that is a big deal but what I am seeing is stress in the plastic and it will eventually break. I have only washed the mask out once so far but I was careful not bend that front gray plastic stuff too much while removing and reinserting the filters. The filters are not held in by this plastic, they fit into the mask like a gasket so I am not really sure that plastic grid over the filters is even necessary as its not tight enough to be a pre-filter unless you have really large chunks coming at your face.I have only used safety glasses with the mask once and they fit about as you would expect...not great but my eyes where still covered.Overall this mask provides great protection from dust particles and is miles better than the bulkier masks or the foam/paper ones that do next to nothing. If it ends up holding up I might give that star back but I am pleased with how well this mask works.

TMI Review
I have been making plastic baits and lead sinkers as a hobby ever since I retired eight years ago. In order to have appropriate PPE for this chemical onslaught, I have been using the 3M masks that make you look like a grasshopper, the ones with the giant cartridges that stick out the sides.Since I wear glasses, these have been a problem. Hard to put on, uncomfortable, even though I tried a couple of different sizes and capture so much moisture that eventually they become moldy inside. The air exchange was less than desirable as well. But it seemed like the best option at the time.I just discovered this mask and really it solves all of those problems. The air exchange is much better and so far there has been no moisture buildup no in the mask. The design is much more sleek and comfortable, also easier to get on and off. It does not interfere with my glasses. Replaceable filters are available at a reasonable price and I must say I smell far less of the chemical smells than with the 3M mask. I would highly recommend this if you are working around chemicals or particles which are unhealthy. This is my mask of choice for the future.

I Tried 3 types, 3m, gerson(3m copy), GVS.
I ordered 3 types of masks, the 3m, Gerson(which is a 3m copy cat), and the GVS. I ordered medium and large on all 3 to see which fit the best. I really wanted to go with the 3m since it's the most known brand, you can put different types of filters which allows you to use for other jobs, but I did not like the head strap, it has these cheap plastic tabs, the face mask was a little bigger than the gvs, and I couldn't wear glasses with it. The gerson is pretty much the same design as the 3m, same strap, same everything. The GVS fit perfect, i love the strap it's so comfortable, doesn't block my safety glasses, and created a perfect seal even with my beard, I went with the S/M size, it just fits perfectly. I removed the filters, put some plastic to cover the holes, breathed in, and I was a complete seal, I covered the exhaust and breathed out, complete seal.... GVS for the win.... Like I said I really wanted 3m because of the versatility of filters, but, I haul the same material everyday, concrete powder, I'm in the cement plants and unless I change companies, this is the only filter I need, so I just went with GVS, besides no one in those plants are wearing masks, and I just look a lot less crazy with this GVS mask than walking around with those 2 big pink pancake filters on my face.... I also like that i could probably blow the dust off these filters, and reuse, I have an pressurized air hose on my truck, probably not recommended, but if the inside still looks white and clean, why not? I'll see if that works when the time comes...

good mask but shipped unsealed box
i like the fit and it works well, but it was delivered in an unsealed box which makes me feel weird and untrusting of the integrity of the filters it came with so i had to order replacements immediately.

Fits great filters great.
I bought one last year to use in the wood shop and liked it so much I just bought another one for my wife. The fit and weight are perfect. Other respirators are large, bulky and weight a lot to be hanging off of your face for prolonged periods of time. I tend to leave my respirator on during the entire time I am in the shop so I really needed something light weight with a low profile if I wanted any sort of comfort at all to stop knocking into equipment and corners and every time I turned my head. This respirator is exactly what I was looking for. The fit is snug yet comfy; the weight is very minimal yet the filters are still very adequate; and the profile is low so I don’t run into large objects with my face anymore. It’s great to wear for extended periods of time.Cleaning the mask is easy. Just pull it apart and use dish soap. Fitting it back together is pretty self-explanatory and the pieces easily fit back into place. The only con is that the the small-medium size seems a bit too small. I’m a pretty small person so things fitting too small is almost never a problem which makes this unusual for me. The corners of my lips sometimes hits the inside of the mask on the circle valves , which makes me think it’s a bit too narrow inside. But it is still very comfy and the small-medium size still fits well. It just fits a bit narrower than I would have expected. But I did want the small profile so it’s a reasonable trade off.

This product is not bad. It is just small. I'm a regular grown man with a grown man face and this thing looks like it should be on a kid. It works well but it does not fit my face.

Does it job and fits well.
So glad I picked this up. I have the small that fits well. I meant it for making bisque fixer and ended up also using it when clean up to protect from the dry clay dust that I reacted to when I didn’t have mask.
