Elitech ILD-200 Refrigerant Leak Detector — Long-Life Infrared Sniffer

The Elitech ILD-200 refrigerant leak detector pairs an infrared sensor rated for a ~10-year life with broad halogenated refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, HFOs and HC blends) coverage — a gas leak detector that lowers lifetime cost by avoiding the frequent sensor swaps heated-diode tools need. It pinpoints the leak; it does not measure air safety.

The Elitech ILD-200 is a refrigerant leak detector with a long-life infrared (NDIR) sensor that detects halogenated refrigerants for HVAC, A/C and automotive work.

Key features

  • Infrared (NDIR) sensor rated for a ~10-year life — far longer than heated-diode sensors
  • Detects halogenated refrigerants for HVAC, A/C and automotive work
  • Stable infrared sensing resists the drift and burnout of cheaper sensors
  • Audible and visual leak indication for pinpointing
  • Lower lifetime cost thanks to the long-life sensor
  • Solid 4.4-star track record among technicians
Pros
  • Long-life infrared sensor (~10 years)
  • Lower lifetime sensor cost
  • Stable, drift-resistant sensing
  • Broad refrigerant coverage
  • Good value vs heated-diode tools
Cons
  • Higher upfront cost than budget sniffers
  • Refrigerants only (not combustibles/toxics)
  • Not an atmosphere safety monitor
  • Infrared can be less ultra-sensitive than fresh heated-diode

What the Elitech ILD-200 detects (and what it doesn’t)

It detects halogenated refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, HFOs and HC blends) — not combustibles, CO or oxygen. For natural-gas or propane leaks use the Klein ET120; for CO the Carbon Monoxide Alarms & Detectors range. Its infrared sensor resists the drift and burnout of cheaper sensors, lowering lifetime cost. As a leak locator it identifies the source, not whether a space is safe — use a Portable Gas Detectors monitor for occupied-space decisions.

Cross-shopping? This unit sits in our Gas Leak Detectors hub alongside Klein Tools ET120, Forensics Gas Leak Detector, TopTes PT-830S, TopTes PT520A. How the Elitech ILD-200 compares

The ILD-200 emphasises a long-life infrared sensor and lower lifetime cost. The Fieldpiece DR58 is a pro-grade heated-diode tool with higher peak sensitivity; the TopTes RT-389 is a budget rechargeable option.

  • Choose the Elitech ILD-200 for a long-life infrared sensor and the lowest lifetime cost on frequent leak checks.
  • Want maximum pro-grade sensitivity? See the Fieldpiece DR58.
  • On a tighter budget? The TopTes RT-389 is a rechargeable entry option.

Frequently asked questions

What refrigerants does the Elitech ILD-200 detect?

It detects halogenated refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, HFOs and HC blends) for HVAC, A/C and automotive work. It does not detect combustibles or CO.

Why is the infrared sensor a big deal?

The infrared (NDIR) sensor is rated for about a 10-year life and resists drift and burnout, so you replace sensors far less often than with heated-diode detectors — lowering lifetime cost.

How does it compare to the Fieldpiece DR58?

The Fieldpiece DR58 uses a heated-diode sensor with very high peak sensitivity but a shorter sensor life; the ILD-200 trades a little sensitivity for a long-life infrared sensor and lower running cost.

Can it tell me if a space is safe to enter?

No — it locates refrigerant leaks only. For occupied-space safety use a Portable Gas Detectors monitor.

Does it detect natural gas or propane?

No — it is refrigerant-specific. For combustibles use the Klein ET120 or a TopTes combustible sniffer.

How do I pinpoint a leak?

Sweep the probe slowly along joints, coils and fittings; the audible and visual indication intensifies as you near the leak.

Is the ILD-200 good for a busy shop?

Yes — the long-life infrared sensor suits shops doing frequent leak checks, since you avoid the repeated sensor replacement of heated-diode tools.

Does it work on automotive A/C?

Yes — it is used for automotive A/C diagnostics as well as HVAC/R service.

Does the sensor need replacing?

Far less often than heated-diode sensors — the infrared element is rated for roughly a decade of service, which is its main advantage.

Is it in stock and how does it ship?

Use the Amazon buy button for current availability and delivery timing through our fulfillment partner.

Is it sensitive enough for small leaks?

Yes for typical HVAC/R service. For the highest peak sensitivity on very small losses, the heated-diode Fieldpiece DR58 is the step up.

Why choose it over a budget detector?

Lower lifetime cost and stable readings; budget units like the TopTes RT-389 cost less upfront but use shorter-life sensors.
