The TopTes Guard-863Pro is the feature leader of the TopTes line β€” a rechargeable four-gas monitor reading oxygen, combustible LEL, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide on a TFT color screen, with an 18-hour battery, USB data export and a 5-year oxygen sensor β€” a monitoring device, not respiratory protection.

Why the TopTes Guard-863Pro leads the value four-gas field

Value four-gas monitors usually cut the screen, the runtime, or the sensor life β€” the Guard-863Pro keeps all three. It reads O2, LEL, CO and H2S on a bright TFT color screen that stays readable in daylight, runs up to 18 hours per charge, exports readings over USB for records, and uses an upgraded oxygen sensor rated for five years to cut long-term cost. It is the flagship of the TopTes line. As 4-gas monitors go, this is the color-screen value pick, and the gas detection guide and the best 4-gas monitor guide explain where it fits. It brings premium features to a value four-gas price.

Safety first: a gas detector alarms; it does not protect. In an IDLH or oxygen-deficient atmosphere you must evacuate and use supplied-air or an SCBA β€” a monitor warns of the hazard, it is not a substitute for respiratory protection. Bump-test before each use and calibrate on the manufacturer schedule, confirm the sensor configuration and alarm setpoints on the listing, and follow your confined-space entry procedure. See the OSHA monitoring guide for program rules.

What the TopTes Guard-863Pro listing documents

From the published specs: a 4-gas monitor reading O2, LEL, CO and H2S; a TFT color screen; up to an 18-hour battery; USB data export; and an upgraded 5-year oxygen sensor. These are true 4-gas monitor and color screen gas detector credentials in a confined space gas monitor. Confirm the sensor configuration and alarm setpoints on the listing.

How the TopTes Guard-863Pro compares to other gas detectors

For the fast-response mid model, the TopTes Guard-156; for the best-value entry, the TopTes Guard-101; for a datalogging premium 4-gas, the GasAlertMicroClip XL; for a compact certified 4-gas, the RKI GX3R; and for a pump-equipped 4-gas, the Forensics 4-Gas with Pump. The TopTes 101 vs 156 vs 863Pro guide and the 4-gas vs single-gas guide help you choose.

Choosing the right gas monitor

Match the gases, screen, runtime, and sampling method to your hazard. Browse the gas detectors, personal gas detectors, and portable gas detectors collections; for sampling, the diffusion vs pump guide; and for the personal-monitor decision, the best personal gas detector guide and the area gas monitors collection.

Where it fits by job and crew orders

The Guard-863Pro suits construction, utilities, and confined-space crews that want a readable color screen, long runtime, and low sensor cost without a premium-fleet price β€” see the confined-space kit guide and the industrial CO guide for related equipment. The 5-year O2 sensor lowers the cost of keeping a fleet in service, since the oxygen cell is usually the first sensor to expire on a four-gas unit, and USB export gives a safety manager a record without a separate docking station. The color screen also makes it easier for a worker to read the exact gas levels at a glance rather than decoding a small monochrome display. Confirm the sensor configuration and alarm setpoints on the listing, bump-test before use, and calibrate on schedule. For crew orders, quantity purchasing runs through a free Amazon Business account β€” volume pricing, PO numbers at checkout, and tax-exempt eligibility for qualifying organizations, with the walkthrough linked in our footer.

Very Nice Detector
This is a very nice gas detector. We have some at work that are not as nice and cost a lot more. It has a very quick response to changes in gas levels. It was quite easy to use and has lots of settings and configuration options. The product page shows the two display modes, and the ability to view trends of the different gas levels is nice. It only shows the last 60s, but that is enough for standard active monitoring. The default display is to show all four gases at once. There is an option to export from the device to a computer, but it requires software that is not currently available in English. I contacted the manufacturer, and they are currently working to get the software ready. Their response to my inquiry was quick and professional.-- 2025-05-28 Update --They have released English software for your PC to connect to the meter. From within the software, you can do the following:1. Synchronize the time in the meter with your computer time.2. Export records from the meter to your computer.3. Clear records from the meter.4. Export records from the software to an Excel file.Getting the software from the manufacturer was abnormal. Customer service sent it to me embedded in a Word document. Not the preferred method to obtain software, but it works, and I haven't detected anything malicious yet.

Peace of mind
This is a handy tool to have if you are a DIY fixit guy/gal that works on things in areas that could potentially be hazardous as far as air quality goes. For instance I have had to crawl down in my crawl space several times to work on our furnace and I had some concerns as to whether the space was safe for breathing. With this I am a little more at ease knowing that at least these levels are safe. The unit is easy to use, once turned on it does a self check every time to make sure everything is working as it should. You are able to see the instant levels of each sensor on the main screen, if you would like to see a graph of the level you are able to switch to graph view and see a graph over the last minute of what the levels have been. This unit also lets you modify the min and maximum levels for the unit to alarm. There is also a log you can view from within the device that will tell you of any alarm, sensor failure, or calibration records. This is helpful so you can concentrate on just leaving the area when the alarm goes off and once you are safe you can go back and review what was unsafe about the area.I am so glad they ship this with a good storage box. The box is a little flimsy but looks rugged and should be plenty to keep the device protected. I was disappointed to not see a rubber gasket to protect the device from liquid while in the box. The foam insert holds the device and everything you need for it in place.

Reliable and Versatile Gas Monitor β€” Perfect for DIY Projects and Homebrewing Safety
I received the Guard-863Pro 4 Gas Monitor and was impressed right away. It came well-packed and was ready to go straight out of the box. I'm not a professional, but I take on a lot of DIY projects at homeβ€”and I also do homebrewingβ€”so I wanted something to help keep my workspaces safe. This device fits the bill.Setup was easy. I charged it fully, powered it on in fresh air to zero it out, and went through the manual to get familiar with the functions and alarm thresholds. The color screen is bright and easy to read, and it’s built toughβ€”explosion-proof with a solid battery life that lasts a full 18 hours. As a DIYer and homebrewer, here are a few specific ways this monitor is useful:πŸ§ͺ Homebrewing: Keeping an eye on air quality in closed spaces where fermentation gases or propane burners are used.πŸ”§ Garage Projects: Detecting combustible gases when working with fuels, adhesives, or solvents.πŸ›  Crawl Spaces: Checking for oxygen depletion or gas accumulation before entering tight, poorly ventilated areas.πŸ”Œ Generator Use: Ensuring safe levels of carbon monoxide when running a backup generator outdoors near the home.🏑 Gas Leak Troubleshooting: Helpful for identifying potential issues near stoves, heaters, or gas lines.I also recommended this to a friend who’s starting a home inspection business. This monitor could be a great add-on to offer indoor air and gas detection reports for clients. To test the sensors, I ran a few simple checks:βœ… Oxygen (Oβ‚‚): I sealed the monitor in a plastic bag for a short time to simulate a low-oxygen environment. The reading dropped and the alarm triggered just as expected.πŸ”₯ Carbon Monoxide (CO): I lit a match, blew it out, and held the monitor near the smoke. CO levels spiked quickly and the alert went off.πŸ₯š Hydrogen Sulfide (Hβ‚‚S): I cracked a raw egg in a small enclosed space with the monitor. As the egg began to release gases, the Hβ‚‚S sensor picked up some activityβ€”though it’s not always a strong or reliable method without official test gas.🧯 LEL (Combustible Gas): I gently released a small puff from an unlit butane lighter near the sensor. It immediately detected the gas and set off the alert. The build quality, ease of use, and clear readouts make this a fantastic tool for anyone working on projects around the house or in a startup inspection role. It provides a layer of safety and peace of mind that’s absolutely worth having. Highly recommended.
