- Gloves are tested against distinct hazards - contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, molten metal splash. A high rating in one does not imply protection in another.
- Time at temperature
- Heat ratings are time-limited. A glove rated for brief contact at a temperature will not protect for sustained handling at the same temperature.
- Cuff length

Can I hold hot objects indefinitely?
No. Contact heat ratings specify a temperature and a time to a defined temperature rise inside the glove. Beyond that time the glove no longer protects.
Why must heat gloves be kept dry?
Moisture conducts heat far better than the dry glove material and can flash to steam, causing a scald burn under a glove that appears intact.
Are welding gloves the same as heat-resistant gloves?
Not necessarily. Welding gloves address spatter, radiant heat and some contact heat; furnace and foundry gloves address sustained contact and molten splash. Match the glove to the work.
When should they be replaced?
